Les tudes en sciences sociales portant sur l'institution hospitali re, r alis es au cours des d cennies 1980-1990, ont eu la particularit de rester, quasiment toutes, cantonn es dans les pays du Nord, sans quivalents en Afrique qui puissent permettre de faire une comparaison entre les institutions hospitali res de ces pays et celles de l'Afrique. Pour d passer ce particularisme et permettre une analyse comparative des h pitaux des pays du Nord et de ceux de l'Afrique, il a paru utile d' tudier l'h pital du Point G Bamako au Mali, partir d'une approche anthropologique bas e sur l'analyse critique des dimensions historiques, politiques et sociales de l'h pital du Point G, afin de fournir des informations descriptives n cessaires une analyse comparative internationale. Les r sultats r v lent que l'h pital du Point G a t cr pendant la p riode coloniale fran aise, avant d' tre r cup r et remis au coeur du syst me de sant du Mali ind pendant. Compar aux h pitaux tudi s aux tats-Unis et en France, il appara t, n anmoins, comme une innovation ambigu , au regard, notamment, de l'organisation et du fonctionnement du Service d'Accueil des Urgences.
