Tuskegee University Cemetery Stories chronicles the important contributions of those whose last home on this earth is the Tuskegee University Cemetery—those many men and women who diligently built on the foundation laid by Tuskegee founders Lewis Adams and Booker T. Washington. Some of the notable names among those interred in the cemetery include Washington himself, American literary and jazz critic Albert Murray, football coach Cleve Abbott, supporter of Rosenwald Schools Clinton Calloway, treasurer Warren Logan, founder and editor of the Negro Year Book Monroe Work, musician and conductor William L. Dawson, and photographer Prentice Polk. This book also tells the stories of dozens of others whose names are less well known but whose contributions to their families, to their communities, and to Tuskegee were no less valued, whose memories are no less cherished. Mingled amongst the tales of the great and the good, the brilliant and the powerful, are the shortest stories—the heartbreaking headstones that memorialize the briefest lives. What emerges through the portraits of each of the ninety-three individuals featured in these pages is a portrait of a school and a community united—striving together, working together, living and dying together—and a portrait of our human race, united in our desires—to build, to create, to love and be loved—and in our ultimate fate. Tuskegee University Cemetery Stories is a celebration of those who have come before us and an inspiration to all of us who are still here.

For Such a Time As This ... Take the beautiful, biblical story of Esther, change the lead character's race from Jewish to biracial, place the location in New York City during the 1960s era of turmoil at the time of the civil rights movement, and you have a modern-day parallel to the story of Esther. King and Evie beautifully portray this timeless tale of romance and righteousness in action. Nehemiah 7:5 says, "So my God gave me the idea ..." There are numerous good ideas, but occasionally, there is a God idea. I believe this brilliant work, Evangeline, by Lane Jordan is the latter. In a world o-ften divided by color, culture, and class, she provides a unifying voice offering Kingdom perspective by reimagining and modernizing the timeless narrative of Esther. The story is creative and captivating-the truth is transformative, leading us to truly see each other as God does and to love one another. -Jelani Lewis, Gateway Church, Plano, Texas Campus Pastor

This short novel shares all the personal highs and lows of one B.C. teacher and her husband upon entering into retirement. It is a humorous look at elderly parent care, selling the family home, dealing with disgruntled siblings and estates, and suddenly finding yourselves alone together. It examines all the scary pitfalls of having too much time on your hands after working full-time since forever. Hopefully, everyone will see a little of themselves in this story, as we all must face the universality of life's inevitable phases. Will you laugh at yourself and make the most of it? Or will you just shrivel up into the fetal position and cry? That is the dilemma we must all face as we approach age sixty.
