Classical groups"", named so by Hermann Weyl, are groups of matrices or quotients of matrix groups by small normal subgroups. Thus the story begins, as Weyl suggested, with ""Her All-embracing Majesty"", the general linear group $GL_n(V)$ of all invertible linear transformations of a vector space $V$ over a field $F$. All further groups discussed are either subgroups of $GL_n(V)$ or closely related quotient groups. Most of the classical groups consist of invertible linear transformations that respect a bilinear form having some geometric significance, e.g., a quadratic form, a symplectic form, etc. Accordingly, the author develops the required geometric notions, albeit from an algebraic point of view, as the end results should apply to vector spaces over more-or-less arbitrary fields, finite or infinite. The classical groups have proved to be important in a wide variety of venues, ranging from physics to geometry and far beyond. In recent years, they have played a prominent role in the classification of the finite simple groups. This text provides a single source for the basic facts about the classical groups and also includes the required geometrical background information from the first principles. It is intended for graduate students who have completed standard courses in linear algebra and abstract algebra. The author, L. C. Grove, is a well-known expert who has published extensively in the subject area.
From 1900 to 1909, Indian school educators gathered at annual meetings of the National Educational Association’s Department of Indian Education. The papers they delivered were later published in the Journal of Proceedings and Addresses of the National Educational Association, but strict guidelines often meant they were heavily edited before publication. Indian school educators at these annual meetings also shared their methods with other educational thinkers and practitioners, who were seeking alternative pedagogies as new immigrants arrived in U.S. cities and challenges arose from new island territories. These selected writings reveal how the NEA influenced Indian school educators and how those educators, in turn, affected mainstream educational thinking.

The book presents the life story of a 95 year old house in southeastern Montana that the author's grandparents built and in which his brother and family still live. In this book it is referred to as "The Klos Family House". Since the author's parents and contemporaries who might remember the house and the times are nearly all deceased, the narrative builds upon the memories of the author and friends, relatives, neighbors, and siblings. The story begins with German immigrants homesteading to improve their lives in southeastern Montana during a string of wet years in the early 1900's. It continues through the drought and depression of subsequent years that bankrupted many settlers. The story follows three generations of the Klos family as they successively fight to succeed and as they gradually enlarge the Klos Family House. Now, with the third generation, the original house has been totally surrounded by expansions on all four sides. The house itself narrates the story of its initial construction and growth and of events that occurred or were discussed within its walls. Additional interleaved chapters provide supporting information and related perspectives as time and modern technology changed life in rural Montana.
