Lazare Carnot was the unique example in the history of science of someone who inadvertently owed the scientific recognition he eventually achieved to earlier political prominence. He and his son Sadi produced work that derived from their training as engineering and went largely unnoticed by physicists for a generation or more, even though their respective work introduced concepts that proved fundamental when taken up later by other hands. There was, moreover, a filial as well as substantive relation between the work of father and son. Sadi applied to the functioning of heat engines the analysis that his father had developed in his study of the operation of ordinary machines. Specifically, Sadi's idea of a reversible process originated in the use his father made of geometric motions in the analysis of machines in general. This unique book shows how the two Carnots influenced each other in their work in the fields of mechanics and thermodynamics and how future generations of scientists have further benefited from their work.

Bernard-Lazare (1865–1903) was a French Jewish writer who was the prime mover in the Dreyfus Affair. The Dreyfus Affair lies at the centre of this 1978 book as it was the turning point in Bernard-Lazare's life. In the first part of the book Dr Wilson traces his early career: his defence of the Symbolist aesthetic as a philosophy of freedom; his sympathy for oppressed individuality and minority groups, and his passion for social justice; above all his analysis of antisemitism where, initially, he argued for social assimilation only to reject such an idea later in favour of a concept of cultural pluralism. The second part offers a history of the Dreyfus Affair and the way Bernard-Lazare drew attention to its grave irregularities. Finally, the book explores how he came to espouse Jewish nationalism in a much more radical way than did Herzl, the founder of Zionism.
This book was written by the creator of the popular Dental Expert and Pediatric Dental Expert app for the iPhone and iPad, Dr. Marc Lazare, who has gathered information from the top dental experts in their fields to answer the most frequently asked dental questions in all categories of dental care. The Patient's Guide to Dentistry is the ultimate guide to everything you would like to know, and everything you should know. There are many questions people have about dental care. There are terms that they have heard mentioned but aren't quite sure what they are. They have heard about advances in dental technology and various treatments but don't know who to ask about them. Their dentist is often too busy to present all the different choices one has, and doesn't have the time to explain in detail what needs to be done. People have a fear of the unknown and a fear of dentistry is common. We all are concerned with doing what is best for us and our family while trying to keep costs down. There are many aspects of basic dental care we do not understand. The idea of when to see a dentist and if I go will I have pain are just some of the universal concerns. Here, in one book, are the answers we need.

Samuti on autorit tunnustatud Saksamaa Rahvusvahelise Noorteraamatukogu kataloogis "The White Ravens".
His long-ago lover brings a cryptic letter to Paris, pulling Eddie Grant reluctantly into a web of intrigue and death - but giving him one slim chance to find the terrorists who murdered his family seven years before. The letter sparks a dangerous quest across Paris, the Loire Valley, and the gleaming beaches of the Florida Gulf Coast for the most valuable Nazi loot that remains missing, a famous Raphael self-portrait from the early 16th century. The painting and the crates of bullion that accompanied it were intended to finance the Fourth Reich, or so the rumors said.Jen Wetzmuller, daughter of his late father's World War II colleague in American Army intelligence, found the letter after her father was run down by a car in the streets of Sarasota. For Eddie, it brings the long-cold case of his family's murder back to life. Its clues propel him from his Paris home to Florida, where he barely escapes with his life. Then it's back home, to burrow into the darkest reaches of the German occupation.Along the way, he and Jen restart the brief, fiercely passionate affair that he abandoned, to his regret, 20 years before. Most of all, Treasure of Saint-Lazare is a novel of Paris. The painting, Portrait of a Young Man, remains missing, although the Polish government said recently that it still exists and is in a safe place."Bravo " (Ronald Rosbottom, author of When Paris Went Dark)"An exceptionally well written book with a fast-paced story line and many plot surprises." (Connield, Amazon reviewer)A "fast-paced thriller spanning the globe from Paris to the states." (Carole P. Roman, Amazon reviewer)"I read it once and then waited a week and read it again." (Amazon reviewer)
