Major Bible ThemesThis book is in no sense intended to be a treatise on systematic theology. In its preparation, a limited number of the most vital and practical themes have been chosen, and an attempt has been made to adapt these brief discussions to the needs of the untrained Christian. To each chapter a list of questions has been added which, it is hoped, may make the studies more useful both to individuals and to groups. The student who would be versed on these subjects should look up every passage cited and continue the study of each theme until all the questions can be answered from memory.Although the writer presumably has made a careful study of the various subjects treated, it is not his prerogative to dictate what another shall believe; but rather to point out what the Bible teaches. Faith should always rest on a personal understanding of the Scriptures, rather than on the teaching of men.

These lectures on the Ephesian Letter were first published in Revelation magazine in a series of fifteen articles, afterward appearing in book form in 1935. This book is affectionately dedicated to my brother, Rev. Rollin Thomas Chafer, D.D., whose life-long companionship, wise counsel, and tireless faithfulness in a great partnership service for God has gone far toward securing for it that measure of achievement which under divine favor has been wrought.PrefaceBut for a slight revision in the text, the material presented in this volume was first published in the Revelation Magazine. The fifteen sections into which the book is divided correspond with the fifteen magazine articles and are published by the permission of the owners of Revelation. No skeleton or outline of the Ephesian Letter is presented in this book other than that which is set forth in the Contents. The all-important features of the structure of the Ephesian Letter are, (1) The discovery of the precise message and character of the first division, Chapters 1-3, and (2) the logical relation which exists between the first division and that which follows. Many books have been written on the Ephesian Letter. Some have been exegetical and some devotional. The distinctive aim of this treatment is doctrinal and as this Letter has not been thus developed by writers generally it is hoped that the book may serve some worthwhile purpose and be, in some measure, "to the praise of the glory of his grace."Lewis Sperry Chafer Dallas, Texas, June 1, 1935

If any word of mine shall add to the number of the readers of this book I shall be glad to have written it; and I sincerely wish that all believers, and especially all ministers and Christian workers, might in some way be led to read it. The subject is vital to any right understanding of the age in which we live, and of the personal conflict which we wage; for the existence, personality, and power of Satan are awful facts and of immense present significance. We walk in the midst of his snares, hear on every hand his doctrines proclaimed by men of blameless lives "transformed as the ministers of righteousness," and are allured by the pleasure, place and power of his perfectly organized world-system. I know of no other book on Satan in which the dispensational aspects of the subject are so clearly stated, nor any other so severely Biblical.

Grace: The Glorious Theme is an abiding classic by Lewis Sperry Chafer, who assures the reader about the ineffable beauty of God's grace in the Christian life.Published in 1922 to a favorable reception, Grace: The Glorious Theme has long been a favorite among Christians for its sincerity and simplicity. Then as now, the world was full of people raised as good Christians who had forgotten what it means to be a believer in God and Jesus Christ. Noticing such individuals, Chafer authored this manual to state the simple love, beauty and devotion which lays at the heart of a Christian life properly led. The superb and inspiring text frequently quotes the Biblical scriptures, reminding us of the many instances in which God's grace to Man is evident. Taking examples from both the Old and New Testaments, it is with lucid flowing truth that Lewis Sperry Chafer both convinces the reader and evinces the subject. As a professional theologian, Chafer spent an entire lifetime researching and reading the holy texts of Christianity. He was noted by friends and colleagues to be a peaceful and serene man, who believed a simple and positive message delivered with heart to be the greatest. He is particularly well-remembered in Texas, which has founded a charitable foundation bearing Chafer's name.

A Concise and Complete Guide to the Kingdom of God theme in the Old and New Testament.Written in 1915, Chafer's The Kingdom in History and Prophecy has been a foundational book for many theologians in their understanding of the kingdom of God. Although now over 100 years old, it remains an excellent example of biblical exegesis which is driven by an originalist hermeneutic and not a theological system. The language and Scripture citations have been updated to modern language so that this book remains an easily accessible and understandable introduction to the kingdom of God. Students of Scripture should be familiar with this book if they are interested in understanding the theme of the kingdom in Scripture.

In an age characterized by skepticism and ignorance of the Holy Scriptures, this timely volume clearly sets forth the biblical truths and teachings that long have been cherished by Christians. Virtually a classic for this century, Major Bible Themes includes chapters on doctrines that merit particular attention in the contemporary religious scene, such as the Holy Spirit, the nature of the Church, and the second coming of Christ. Designed for group and individual study, for pastors, laymen, and students, Major Bible Themes is an indispensable tool, providing the biblical basis for fifty-two doctrines, complete with topical and Scripture indexes. Questions for discussion and review follow each chapter. Whether your purpose is to explore Bible doctrines as a new Christian, to erase confusion stemming from conflicting views in the contemporary church, or to establish a stronger basis for witnessing to your beliefs, Major Bible Themes is essential for study and reference.

Family Therapy Techniques briefly reviews the basic theories of marriage and family therapy. It then goes into treatment models designed to facilitate the tailoring of therapy to specific populations and the integration of techniques from what often seems like disparate theories. Based on the assumption that no single approach is the definitive approach for every situation, the book leads students through multiple perspectives. In teaching students to integrate and tailor techniques, this book asks them to take functional methods and approaches from a variety of theoretical approaches, without attempting to reiterate the theoretical issues and research covered in theories courses.
