There is a widespread and growing acceptance in legal services organisations worldwide that dealing with stress and burnout is not just the responsibility of the individual lawyer. The mitigation and prevention of excessive stress in the legal workplace are now being recognised as critical management responsibilities. This expectation has serious measurable implications and consequences for managing partners, general counsel and other leaders. This practical guide summons lawyers, leaders and managers to greater alertness about stress-producing factors in the workplace and to more effective applications of practical responses and methods in the special conditions and circumstances of the practice of law in today’s often intense and highly competitive environment. It is written expressly for professional colleagues who want to work together in common cause to bring greater awareness to wellness needs and to minimise excessive stress or distress in the legal workplace, positively impacting workplace culture, professional relationships, firm reputation, talent retention and profitability. Written by a world-recognised counselling psychologist, who has worked exclusively with the people and organisations in the legal services industry for more than twenty-five years, it focuses on actions, not theories and philosophy, that any leader and legal services organisation can begin to use immediately to make sustainable investments in the well-being of its people.

Construction Matters examines the way that architects understand and respond to technological innovation through the creation of new types of spaces, and the materials through which an architectural idea finds its physical realization. Understanding the properties of different materials is indispensable for the creation of architecture that is original, powerful, and meaningful. Organized into chapters on the major methods of construction-masonry, concrete, steel, and wood-Construction Matters examines specific technologies that experienced major transformations in the last century, or were newly invented: a new material, jointing technique, or fabrication procedure for example. The architectural application of this invention is then analyzed with building case studies that are selected based on an obvious formal relationship between the building's form and the new type of construction that it incorporates--ranging from prewar designs in the United States and Europe to recent projects in Asia, and includes built projects as well as significant design proposals. Construction Matters develops a way of thinking about architecture in relation to technology that transcends a particular building method or design task. The architect and educator Georg Windeck conducted independent research that ranges from scientific advancements to philosophical contemplations. The multi-facetted discussion that emerges from this work is developed in close collaboration with artist and journalist Lisa Larson Walker, with mathematician and architect Will Shapiro, and with artist and architect Sean Gaffney. If we are to rescue the physical substance of architecture--the Matter of Construction--and create a practice that celebrates both the physical and the metaphysical aspects of building, we must understand how and why construction matters.

Change has long been a defining element of the legal services market, and over the past decade, the pace of change has accelerated more rapidly than perhaps ever before. The greatest business challenge, however, remains the same: to continue to be competitive and profitable. This Special Report presents practical strategies to help law firms protect and sustain their profitability as shifting client expectations, advanced technology and global influences challenge many of the old paradigms in law firm management. Authors Norman Clark and Lisa Walker Johnson demonstrate that, although traditional factors influencing profitability remain valid, they must be managed in new ways to meet new financial realities. Insights include: lessons learned from the global recession of 2009–2010 and the COVID-19 pandemic; innovations in pricing, productivity and cost management; and rightsizing the law firm for sustainable performance and profitability. This report highlights what sustainable profitability really means for the 2020s and beyond, and how any law firm can achieve it.
A bet between Eros, the God of love & desire, and Chloe (Chlotho), the Fate of birth, leads to a year filled with match-making and passion. For three years Lisa Cannon has been at Jack Morgan's every beck and call. As his executive personal assistant it's in the job description, except she's beginning to think she's gone above and beyond the call of duty. She hasn't had time off in so long she's pretty sure her nymph side is dying a slow death inside. After arranging for a week away, she's set to feed her nymph with every sexual fantasy that comes to mind. If they happen to all revolve around the man who keeps her tied to her desk, that's all for the better. Jack knows he shouldn't do it but does anyway. He cancels his assistant's vacation...again. He can't stand the thought of her unleashing her nymph side on anyone but him. Over the past three years he's slowly fallen in love with the petite beauty that keeps his personal and professional life running smoothly. When Lisa goes on vacation anyway, Jack knows there's only one thing to do. He needs to find a way into the Mystic-only club and claim the woman who has stolen his heart. NOTE: Mystic Zodiac is a 12 book series. It is NOT a serial. Each book ends in a happily ever after for the main couple. However, the prologue and epilogue of each story follows the Gods that kick off the series, Eros and Chlotho (aka Chloe). At the end of the series the bet between the two will come to a conclusion.

A funny art heist mystery that will steal your heart! The country is gripped with Mona Lisa Fever! The Royal Family has announced a huge reward for the return of a missing version of the Mona Lisa, stolen from their palace over 200 years ago. But in the town of Colpepper, Mia has a different art problem: she loves art, but her underfunded school is closing down the art department! But there's more to her school than meets the eye. Little-known local legend has it that the historic building contains a hidden vault, perhaps containing the Lost Mona Lisa! So Mia has no idea that scheming criminals are hiding among the school staff. Meanwhile, Mia's former-best-friend Jake has endless conspiracy theories that always seem to get Mia in trouble. His latest ones are about the headmaster being a lizard person, and that maybe Mia's parents are The Fish, a renowned art thief who has never been caught. True, Mia's parents are acting strangely, taking evening courses in acrobatics and dressing in tight, black jumpsuits. And lately there have been a lot of weekend trips to art galleries all over the country... bah! But that's ridiculous! Hilarious throughout and featuring a jaw-dropping twist at the very end, this is the perfect follow-up to CHOCOLATE MILK, X-RAY SPECS AND ME The story is told in emails, texts, notes and coded messages between the various characters, and chock full of funny illustrations by Jack Noel. And it has a shiny, metallic blue cover! Perfect for fans of Louie Stowell's Loki, Tom Gates, Charlie Changes Into a Chicken, and Pamela Butchart's books.

So he decides to jump down from his box and experience for himself all the wonderful things he's seen from his post. With each new adventure, he feels bigger and more important. But after enjoying all the wonderful things that the city has to offer, he starts to wonder how his little corner is getting on without him. Then something happens . . . something big. As any social studies or reading teacher will tell you, instilling in middle readers the ardent realization that they have stories of their own to record that their day-to-day lives are history, too is just as important as getting them to read. This companion writing journal encourages youngsters to chronicle their daily lives just as Hallie Lou Wells and the other protagonists of Lisa Waller Roger's ""Lone Star Journals"" do. Each journal has a title page for the young scribes to personalize and ninety-four generously ruled pages.
Life is so unfair to girls! We need adventure too. It's spring of 1878 on the Rockin'W, and Hallie Lou Wells is as cross as any fourteen-year-old redhead has a right to be. Roundup is over; Hallie's father will soon drive the cattle to Dodge City - and only boys are allowed to go on trail drives! But in country where anything can happen, something does. When Mr. Wells learns that Mrs. Wells is having another baby, he decides to stay home. Hallie persuades him to let her take his place on the drive. Hallie's Chisholm Trail diary, rich with depictions of ranch and trail life, is filled with adventures to engage any preteen reader, girl or boy.
