This book explains the rejection by Smith and Adams of 'normal' Christian replacement theology and sets out the apologetics by which Smith and Adams promoted courage and conviction in all who joined them in encouraging the gathering of the Jewish exiles to Jerusalem. Joseph Smith Jr, founder of the Mormon movement and George J Adams, one of his least known followers -- two Gentile dreamers of Zion -- were instrumental in encouraging Jews and Christians to support the restoration of Israel.

I've lived a full life. There's no experience I haven't had. No rock left unturned. There's no question, no curiosity, and no regret. There's just this one giant piece of the puzzle that's missing. Will I ever marry? Will I ever have children? Will I die without ever having experienced these gifts? There's no silencing this biological clock of mine. My ovaries are practically screaming tick-tock motherfucker Searching for my person has been a wild, fun, beautiful, heart-wrenching part of my journey that I just can't seem to get right. Not because I'm fundamentally fucked up or broken (or, am I?), but because relationships are messy-they force us to uncover the parts of ourselves that maybe we try to hide behind the facade of a society-pleasing smile no matter how much we might be hurting inside. Being vulnerable in a romantic relationship usually means that at some point all of your ugly shit is going to come bubbling up to the surface, and all you can hope for is that the person standing beside you has the compassion and patience that it takes to see you for all of your glory, your guts, and your grace, and to choose to keep loving you-all of you-not just the pretty parts. Recognizing fully that there's really no such thing as one true reality, this book is based on my perception of events that shaped me into the woman I am now. I'm sure some of the men I'm writing about here, whose names have been changed, will remember things differently and feel hurt or even attacked by the way I've portrayed them. We all have our stories, our truths. These are mine. This is a sharing of my journey through the ups and downs of romantic and non-romantic love. My guess is that some of these stories will be remarkably similar to yours. We are all connected. Our stories connect us. Our feelings, hopes, dreams, and aspirations connect us to a universal source-that is, love. So no matter who you are, or where you find yourself along this road of life, you might see a bit of yourself in me and my experiences. You are not alone in your search for true love. And you're certainly not alone in wondering whether such a thing even exists.

Pioneering Edinburgh photographers David Octavius Hill (1802-1870) and Robert Adamson (1821-1848) together formed one of the most famous partnerships in the history of photography. Producing highly skilled photographs just four years after the new medium was announced to the world in 1839, their images of people, buildings and scenes in and around Edinburgh offer a fascinating glimpse into 1840s Scotland. Their much-loved prints of the Newhaven fisherfolk are among the first images of social documentary photography. In the space of four and a half years Hill and Adamson produced several thousand prints encompassing landscapes, architectural views, tableaux vivants from Scottish literature and an impressive suite of portraits featuring key members of Edinburgh society. Anne M. Lyden, International Photography Curator at the National Galleries of Scotland, discusses the dynamic dispute that brought these two men together and reveals their perfect chemistry as the first professional partnership in Scottish photography.

The Presidency of John Quincy Adams

The Presidency of John Quincy Adams

Historians have not been generous in judging the presidency of John Quincy Adams. Those who have most conspicuously upheld Adams's fame have, at the same time, virtually ignored his service in the White House. Critics, on the other hand, have described his administration as a failure, founded upon bargain and corruption and marked by exclusion of the United States from the British West Indian trade, the ineffectiveness of its efforts to promote strong Pan-American relationships, and the enactment of the tariff of abominations. Some analysts have even argued that it generated the sectionalism which terminated the Era of Good Feelings. Mary Hargreaves contends, instead, that the basic effort of Adams's presidency was to harmonize divergent sectional interests. To ignore the Adams administration's commitment to nationalism, she argues, is to overlook a fundamental stage in the establishment of the federal government as guardian of the general interest. The volume contains new information on the development of United States commercial policy, the nation's early relationships with Latin America, and difficulties of local and regional adjustment to the growth of the national economy. It will be of keen interest to all students of the economic and political history of the early national period.
