Anurans, represented by frogs, toads and tree frogs, are the largest group in the Amphibia class, with more than 6,500 species, occurring on all continents except Antarctica and some oceanic islands, with 77 per cent of their families having a tropical distribution and 14 per cent in subtropical areas of the Northern Hemisphere. The Hylidae family is widespread and well represented, and its representatives vary in size, from small to large, and generally have adhesive discs on the tips of their toes, which help with climbing. The genus Scinax Wagler, 1830, belonging to the subfamily Scinaxinae, is represented by 70 described species and occupies areas from Mexico, Argentina and Uruguay to Trinidad, Tobago and St Lucia. Due to this high number of species, high morphological conservation and the continuous discovery of new undescribed species, the genus is currently considered a taxonomic problem.

Co-authored by a leading ophthalmology researcher and a professor with fifteen years of experience teaching writing in the biomedical sciences, The Biomedical Writer addresses ways to use psychology and neuroscience to equip researchers and clinicians with an understanding of how effects like priming, primacy, recency, framing, and apparent paradoxes can make or break your articles and grant proposals. The Biomedical Writer covers everything from making sentences readable, effective, and memorable to working with collaborators under unforgiving deadlines. Going far beyond the basic structure and content of manuscripts and proposals, this guide to writing in biomedicine also focuses on topics that include handling negative results and the most important and neglected step in submitting manuscripts to journals.

During the years of the Polish People's Republic, Poles were cut off from the western world. Travel was restricted, as was access to outside culture and goods. This unique situation led to a period of great ingenuity in the realm of new media. Not only were media adapted to suit Poles' needs, but new technology was fashioned to gain access to western television, film and video games. Bringing people together, VCRs, computers and satellite television were thus a window to the outside world and contemporary to the mobilisation of Solidarity and the end of communism. As such, their diffusion is an important but largely overlooked aspect of Poland's history. Acutely aware of this, the authors of this book recount new media behind the Iron Curtain in a way that will appeal to scholars and non-academic readers alike. Coupling archival research with in depth interviews, they bring to life the talent and determination of the PPR's new media pioneers, compelling others to dig further.
