Arthritis Reversed: Groundbreaking 30-Day Arthritis Relief Action Plan
"Dr. Wiley is one of the most clear thinkers and writers in complimentary medicine today. This book is revolutionary and yet it is so simple to follow each step of his plan." -Dr. Glenn Peter Lobo"Arthritis Reversed is a road map to recovery from arthritic pain and will help you get your life back. -Dr. Robert del MedicoDr. Mark Wiley has spent decades researching and mastering natural wellness practices around the world. He's taken those techniques and pioneered a powerful, integrated mind/body approach to arthritis relief and prevention. Simply put, mainstream medicine fails to eradicate our everyday pains, illnesses and diseases. It fails because it is passive and reactionary and thus it is unable to prevent you from experiencing chronic health conditions. The important thing is to see and know that the solution to your daily suffering is grounded in a five-part process called, the Arthritis Relief Action Plan: Part 1: Educate yourself about the real causes and solutions of arthritis Part 2: Reduce the current level of symptoms you are experiencing Part 3: Halt or significantly reduce the worsening of your condition Part 4: Prevent the symptoms from flaring to improve your quality of life Part 5: Regenerate healthy tissue to reverse the damage done In the pages of Arthritis Reversed, Dr. Wiley shows you how to determine the underlying-and sometimes hidden-causes of your arthritic symptoms. These are actually obvious root causes and contributors that are only "hidden" because you have not (yet) been taught to look for and identify them. Dr. Wiley shows you how to do this and then how to use that knowledge to reduce your pain and halt or slow the progression of the condition, typically within 30 to 90 days. "Do not let Arthritis rule your life Get this book and see what it can do for you. It has helped my patients gain more control over their lives." -Dr. Dale Dugas "Dr. Wiley explains the biggest mistakes made in treating arthritis, and the inflammatory response. I highly recommend this book to anyone suffering from any form of arthritis." -Dr. Robert Chu
The Global Philosophers

The Global Philosophers

Mark V. Kauppi; Paul R. Viotti

Lexington Books
1998
nidottu
The Global Philosophers examines the intellectual roots of much of the contemporary literature on international relations and discusses the historical context in which famous historical political theorists wrote. Authors Mark V. Kauppi and Paul R. Viotti focus on the classic Western political philosophers, surveying the work of theorists such as Thucydides, Machiavelli, Hobbes, Rousseau, Kant, and their intellectual influences. Because it features both a broad overview of the basic questions addressed by international relations and more detailed accounts of how various philosophers addressed these questions, this work is an ideal introduction to the field. An admirable analysis of how writers are influenced by their contemporaneous historical circumstances, The Global Philosophers is essential reading for anyone who wishes to truly understand and appreciate the intellectual predecessors to the modern theories of international relations.
A Passion for Birds

A Passion for Birds

Mark V. Barrow Jr.

Princeton University Press
2000
pokkari
In the decades following the Civil War--as industrialization, urbanization, and economic expansion increasingly reshaped the landscape--many Americans began seeking adventure and aesthetic gratification through avian pursuits. By the turn of the century, hundreds of thousands of middle-and upper-class devotees were rushing to join Audubon societies, purchase field guides, and keep records of the species they encountered in the wild. Mark Barrow vividly reconstructs this story not only through the experiences of birdwatchers, collectors, conservationists, and taxidermists, but also through those of a relatively new breed of bird enthusiast: the technically oriented ornithologist. In exploring how ornithologists struggled to forge a discipline and profession amidst an explosion of popular interest in natural history, A Passion for Birds provides the first book-length history of American ornithology from the death of John James Audubon to the Second World War. Barrow shows how efforts to form a scientific community distinct from popular birders met with only partial success. The founding of the American Ornithologists' Union in 1883 and the subsequent expansion of formal educational and employment opportunities in ornithology marked important milestones in this campaign. Yet by the middle of the twentieth century, when ornithology had finally achieved the status of a modern profession, its practitioners remained dependent on the services of birdwatchers and other amateur enthusiasts. Environmental issues also loom large in Barrow's account as he traces areas of both cooperation and conflict between ornithologists and wildlife conservationists. Recounting a colorful story based on the interactions among a wide variety of bird-lovers, this book will interest historians of science, environmental historians, ornithologists, birdwatchers, and anyone curious about the historical roots of today's birding boom.

nidottu
Filipino Stick Fighting Techniques is the authoritative guide to Cabales Serrada Escrima a stick fighting art with its roots in Escrima, the national martial art of the Philippines. The popularity of these techniques has dramatically increased since they were used extensively by Matt Damon in action-packed fight scenes in the Jason Bourne films. Developed by Grandmaster Angel Cabales when he came to the U.S., Cabales Serrada Escrima is a distinct system emphasizing close-quarter combat using highly effective stick-fighting moves in unarmed as well as knife fighting situations. This book offers a clear presentation of the basic strikes, blocks, counters, and disarms unique to this style of martial art as well as explaining how and why the techniques work and when to use them. Angel Cabales was a pioneer in the Filipino Martial Arts and the first teacher of Escrima in the U.S. He trained and certified Mark V. Wiley, the author of this book. Darren G. Tibon, an Escrima Grandmaster, was also trained by Cabales and has contributed a new foreword to the book. This book contains: Personal accounts of Grandmaster Angel Cabales and how he developed his system The dynamics of body positioning, distance control, and both single-stick and empty-hand defensive methods A comprehensive set of training drills for practitioners at different levels. Extensively illustrated with over 300 photos and detailed step-by-step instructions, this book lays the foundation for not just learning the system of Cabales Serrada Escrima, but understanding the traditions and philosophy of the art.

Explores the reasons for and ways to anticipate schedule delays in shipbuilding programmes. 450-character abstract: The Defence Procurement Agency, part of the UK Ministry of Defence, asked Rand to analyze how major shipbuilders and contractors monitor programme progress, to consider what information would be useful for shipbuilders to provide the agency, and to understand why ships are delivered late and why commercial shipbuilders maintain a much better schedule performance than do military builders. This monograph presents the researchers' findings and recommendations, which was based on surveys of major US, UK, and other European shipbuilders and other extensive industry research.

Assesses whether shipyards, other naval firms, and suppliers in the United Kingdom have sufficient capacity to meet the demands of the Ministry of Defence's construction of new ships and submarines over the next 15 years. The United Kingdom has many contracted and prospective shipbuilding programmes on the horizon over the next two decades. The UK Ministry of Defence wants to know whether its country's diminishing industrial base will be able to meet the requirements of this shipbuilding plan. Using extensive surveys and a breadth of data, RAND researchers look at the capacity of the UK shipbuilding industrial base and how alternative acquisition requirements, programmes, and schedules might affect this capability.
Why Has the Cost of Navy Ships Risen?

Why Has the Cost of Navy Ships Risen?

pokkari
Over the past several decades, increases in acquisition costs for U.S. Navy combatants have outpaced the rate of inflation. To understand why, the authors of this book examined two principal source categories of ship cost escalation (economy-driven factors and customer-driven factors) and interviewed various shipbuilders. Based on their analysis, the authors propose some ways the Navy might reduce ship costs in the future.
Historical Cost Growth of Completed Weapon System Programs

Historical Cost Growth of Completed Weapon System Programs

RAND

Our analysis shows that the Department of Defense (DoD) and the military departments have generally underestimated the cost of buying new weapon systems and that this growth is higher than previously thought. It indicates a systematic bias toward underestimating costs and substantial uncertainty in estimating the final cost of a weapon system.

This report explores why, in recent decades, military fixed-wing aircraft costs have escalated beyond the rates of commonly used inflation indices, examining both economy-driven factors that the Services cannot control and customer-driven ones that they can. The authors found that this trend of cost increases is true for all types of aircraft
Implications of an Air Force Budget Downturn on the Aircraft Industrial Base
The U.S. Air Force is facing a number of challenges as a result of the current defense budget downturn along with the uncertainty of its timing and magnitude. RAND examined the challenge of modernizing the Air Force s aircraft fleet while trying to sustain the industrial base with limited funding, considering six budget strategies for aircraft procurement: from a new high-tech fleet to sustaining and modifying the existing one."

The authors investigate whether the tenure of program managers contributes to Nunn-McCurdy breaches. They also examine the existing decentralized systems used to track cost growth to determine whether additional guidance and control are needed to make acquisition category II programs performance more transparent. Finally, they investigate whether key assumptions, so-called framing assumptions, could be useful risk management tools.

The authors explore defense contractor motivations and identify mechanisms that might more closely align those incentives with Department of Defense goals. They also analyze major defense acquisition programs to determine if it is possible to identify programs that might incur a future Nunn-McCurdy breach by reviewing a number of acquisition programs that have incurred breaches and analyzing them for common characteristics.
