Immerse yourself in the wonderful world of Wes Anderson with 55+ recipes inspired by his films, characters, and signature aesthetic. In The Wes Anderson Cookbook—the debut title in the Director’s Cut Kitchen series—you’ll embark on a wondrous culinary adventure: an edible tribute to the charm, wit, and whimsy of filmmaker Wes Anderson’s inimitable creations, from his first film, Bottle Rocket, to his series of Netflix shorts, to his latest film, The Phoenician Scheme. While you can’t book a stay in one of the Grand Budapest Hotel’s timeworn rooms, buy a ticket for the Darjeeling Limited, or enroll in the fabled Rushmore Academy, you can experience all those places—and the memorable characters who inhabit them—through the foods and flavors that loom large in Anderson’s films as props, symbols, and uncredited dramatis personae. The Wes Anderson Cookbook is a carefully crafted homage to the director’s visual and narrative style, with vibrant design elements that echo his iconic aesthetics. With an introduction about the director, his oeuvre, and the role foods play in his films, the book contains 59 full-color, beautifully illustrated recipes, from main dishes and snacks to drinks and desserts; each explains its connection to a particular movie or scene, adding layers of storytelling and fun facts for film buffs. Enjoy recipes such as: Midge’s Dinette Waffles from Asteroid City Private Compartment Savoury Snacks from The Darjeeling Limited Purloined Chicken Salad from Fantastic Mr. Fox The Royal Negroni from The Royal Tenenbaums Grilled Jaguar Shark Steaks with Cream Sauce from The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou Mendl’s Courtesan au Chocolat from The Grand Budapest Hotel With menus for viewing parties, a complete filmography, and Easter eggs galore, this book is as much a visual feast as a literal one. More than just a collection of recipes, this is a collector’s item that celebrates the art of both cinema and cooking. With its unique premise of turning the lens on the director, rather than on a specific film, its visually stunning design appeals to both film fans and foodies alike. It’s an immersive journey through the cinematic world of Wes Anderson, bringing film scenes to life through food. Director’s Cut Kitchen is a series of unofficial cookbooks that explores the intersection of food, film, and creativity, focusing on the distinctive styles of celebrated film directors. Each book features newly created recipes inspired by a director’s unique cinematic universe, with dishes inspired by memorable scenes or conceptually linked to the films’ moods, aesthetics, and themes. The series brings together the best of food and film, offering fans a way to engage with their favorite directors in a fun, tangible—and delicious—way. The result is a playful and engaging collection that appeals to cinephiles, foodies, and pop culture enthusiasts alike.

Drawing on the little-known true story of one tragic night at an Ozarks dance hall in the author's Missouri hometown, this beautifully written, endearingly nostalgic novel picks up 50 years later for a folksy, character-driven portrayal of small-town life, split second decisions, and the ways family secrets reverberate through generations. From the new Fannie Flagg of the Ozarks, a richly-woven story of family, forgiveness, and reinvention for readers of Kristy Harvey Woodson, Donna Everhart, Sue Monk Kidd, Jeannette Walls, and Rita Mae Brown... "A vivid blend of sensorial writing, historical detail, and memorable characters await in this compelling, surprising, insightful story of the weight of long-held secrets and the resulting hunger for truth." - Susan Meissner, USA Today bestselling author of Only the Beautiful Daisy Flowers is fifteen in 1978 when her free-spirited mother dumps her in Possum Flats, Missouri. It's a town that sounds like roadkill and, in Daisy's eyes, is every bit as dead. Sentenced to spend the summer living with her grandmother, the wry and irreverent town mortician, Daisy draws the line at working for the family business, Flowers Funeral Home. Instead, she maneuvers her way into an internship at the local newspaper where, sorting through the basement archives, she learns of a mysterious tragedy from fifty years earlier... On a sweltering, terrible night in 1928, an explosion at the local dance hall left dozens of young people dead, shocking and scarring a town that still doesn't know how or why it happened. Listed among the victims is a name that's surprisingly familiar to Daisy, revealing an irresistible family connection to this long-ago accident. Obsessed with investigating the horrors and heroes of that night, Daisy soon discovers Possum Flats holds a multitude of secrets for a small town. And hardly anyone who remembers the tragedy is happy to have some teenaged hippie asking questions about it - not the fire-and-brimstone preacher who found his calling that tragic night; not the fed-up police chief; not the mayor's widow or his mistress; not even Daisy's own grandmother, a woman who's never been afraid to raise eyebrows in the past, whether it's for something she's worn, sworn, or done for a living. Some secrets are guarded by the living, while others are kept by the dead, but as buried truths gradually come into the light, they'll force a reckoning at last. Inspired by the true story of the Bond Dance Hall explosion, a tragedy that took place in the author's hometown of West Plains, Missouri on April 13, 1928. The cause of the blast has never been determined.

A sweeping and authoritative study of wealth inequality and the dismantling of local government in four working-class cities across the US that passionately argues for reinvestment in people-centered leadership. Decades of cuts to local government amidst rising concentrations of poverty have wreaked havoc on communities left behind by the modern economy. Some of these discarded places are rural. Others are big cities, small cities, or historic suburbs. Some vote blue, others red. Some are the most diverse communities in America, while others are nearly all white, all Latino, or all Black. All are routinely trashed by outsiders for their poverty and their politics. Mostly, their governments are just broke. Forty years after the anti-tax revolution began protecting wealthy taxpayers and their cities, our high-poverty cities and counties have run out of services to cut, properties to sell, bills to defer, and risky loans to take. In The Fight to Save the Town, urban law expert and author Michelle Wilde Anderson offers unsparing, humanistic portraits of the hardships left behind in four such places. But this book is not a eulogy or a lament. Instead, Anderson travels to four blue-collar communities that are poor, broke, and progressing. Networks of leaders and residents in these places are facing down some of the hardest challenges in American poverty today. In Stockton, California, locals are finding ways, beyond the police department, to reduce gun violence and treat the trauma it leaves behind. In Josephine County, Oregon, community leaders have enacted new taxes to support basic services in a rural area with fiercely anti-government politics. In Lawrence, Massachusetts, leaders are figuring out how to improve job security and wages in an era of backbreaking poverty for the working class. And a social movement in Detroit, Michigan is pioneering ways to stabilize low-income housing after a wave of foreclosures and housing loss. Our smallest governments shape people’s safety, comfort, and life chances. For decades, these governments have no longer just reflected inequality—they have helped drive it. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Anderson argues that a new generation of local leaders are figuring out how to turn poverty traps back into gateway cities.

Melkenzye, called "Mel-Mel" by family and friends, is born without the chance to meet her Papa. Every morning, she looks out the window at the beautiful sky and says hello to Papa. Papa looks down from the sky and reminds her that she is loved. Mel-Mel goes about her day with Papa watching. She brushes her teeth and picks out fun clothes to wear. She goes to school and reminds other kids that they too, are loved from both close by and far away. Back home, her conversation with Papa continues. He might not physically be with her, but he is always near. The Sky Has Caring Eyes is a creative tool that can be used to tackle the difficult topic of death with small children. This is a gentle way to start a tough conversation and a way to remind children that, although family may have left us, they are never gone-and they love us all day long and forever.

"Do you see me?" Is about a little girl named Destiny who is facing some challenges at home. These challenges are rolled over into her school life. Instead of her teacher asking if she's ok, she says nothing. When she looks at her teachers, she wonders, "Do you see me?" The young girl feels judges by her teacher. By the end of the book, she feels empowered to tell her teacher who she really is. This book teaches children to use their voice and encourages teachers and other adults to not judge their students by their behavior but to really figure out what is going on with them and ask, "what happened."
