The third collection of plays by "The most distinctive, the most restless, the most obsessive imagination at work in the Irish theatre today" Brian Friel "James in The Morning After Optimism is literally on the run, a comically exaggerated villain in flight form his crimes, seeking refuge in a fairytale forest. Harry in The Sanctuary Lamp is holed up in a church like a mediaeval outlaw, hoping to keep at bay the guilt of his messy life. JPW King in The Gigli Concert is a kind of cross between Dr Livingstone and Robinson Crusoe, a missionary who has become a shipwrecked loner, an Englishman sent to Dublin by a cult to convert the natives, and left there, beached and bereft." (Fintan O'Toole)

Murphy-Kirk-Beresford Correspondence, 1982-1996
This volume faithfully reproduces the public correspondence between Mr. Thomas A. Murphy, former Board Chairman of General Motors Corporation, and two accounting leaders, during the latter two's term of service as Chair of the Financial Accounting Standards Board [FASB]. The volume provides evidence of Murphy's importance as a thoughtful and influential accounting theorist, whose ideas are shared in the context of the open standard setting process adopted by the FASB. The chronological sequence of these letters provides the reader with a sense of momentum around a variety of important technical topics from consolidations through stock compensation. It also addresses a variety of other matters such as the importance of the Board's role as an independent standard setting agency. Also included are references to materials supplied in support of the correspondence and speech materials which relate to points of discussion in the correspondence. This volume represents a unique contribution to the literature of accounting thought for classroom and related use by scholars, practitioners and standard setters.

In a land where the strong prey on the weak, Cullen Murphy is a law unto himself . . . Johnstone Country. Where the Brave and the Bold Serve Justice. Orphaned as a child, Cullen Murphy drifted from one unforgiving frontier town to the next across West Texas. A hired hand at saloons and ranches, he was aimless until he met a drover who taught him to drive cattle, and inspired him to build a spread of his own on the San Saba River just outside of the small Texas Hill Country community of Newtown. Then the war came and Cullen spent four years wearing Confederate gray, earning the rank of sergeant. Caught up in the viciousness and bloodshed from both sides, he became a hardened soldier--and a merciless killer. He fought in hard-won campaigns, gaining honor, only to become embittered by defeat. With the country in ruins and no family awaiting him, Cullen returned to Texas to find his home pillaged and his fields overrun by weeds--and Newtown under siege. With no marshal or sheriff to keep the peace, outlaws have taken over the town, harrassing citizens and threatening merchants with no fear of retribution. But when these gamblers and gunmen target Cullen Murphy, they incur the wrath of a man who doesn't need a badge to enforce his law. . . .
