His career as a pacifist paralleled the buildup of the American military from a minor auxiliary of the state to the "military- industrial complex" that dominates the economy of today. Originally published in 1983, this volume contains an introduction, followed by a collection of articles, selected letters and excerpts from books written by Villard and published during this time.

This biography is about a famous German aviator early in World War I: Oswald Boelcke. He was the first German Ace, had 40 victories, was the mentor, instructor and squadron commander of the Red Baron. He was famous for being a humane flier, spending many of his off-duty hours visiting the men he had shot down in hospital or POW camps. He was never shot down, but died in 1916 in a mid-air collision. His legacy lives on in the Luftwaffe, Germany, Europe and around the world.
When a goose crashes onto their roof, the lives of Oswald, a fame-seeking opossum, and his best human friend, shy, ten-year-old Joey, are turned upside down. Oswald's persistent attempts at fame alienate all his friends, human and animal, so he tries to atone with a big party. But plans go awry when another animal falls into a pot of vegetarian chili, and Joey's mother, Ann, is mistakenly arrested for animal cruelty. For once, Oswald thinks of someone other than himself. He enlists three raucous raccoons and a sarcastic cat to make a video to prove Ann's innocence. With Joey's help, it goes viral. All charges against Ann are dropped, Joey finds his feet with new friends, and Oswald gets an offer from Hollywood. But will fame make the opossum happy, after all?
