Welcome to Toontown where cartoon characters - Toons - live side-by-side with humans. The whole Who Framed Roger Rabbit cast is here: Roger Rabbit, Eddie Valiant, Baby Herman, and of course Jessica Rabbit, the sultriest woman ever "drawn that way." They're up to their old tricks in a whimsical new mystery by Toontown's original creator, the man who first brought these delightful creatures to life.Who P-p-p-plugged Roger Rabbit? opens with a call from Roger to hard-boiled private eye Eddie Valiant. Roger suspects that Jessica is baking her carrot cakes for movie heartthrob Clark Gable. The scandal threatens to rob Roger of the Rhett Butler role in the soon-to-be-filmed Toon musical comedy Gone with the Wind. Investigating Jessica's alleged affair, valiant Eddie finds adultery turning to murder. In no time flat, he's up to his fedora in a nasty web of deceit, intrigue, and Hollywood corruption including reports from all over of a swindling, cheating, blackmailing....Roger ? ? Something is really p-p-p-popping in Toontown Some of the wildest creatures seen in fiction (and real life) abound: Police Sergeant Bulldog Bascomb, a full-blooded hound with razor-sharp teeth sunk into Eddie's case: Heddy, Eddie's sister and possible prime suspect; Kirk Enigman, a very "shadow"-y guy; and Joellyn, Jessica's twin sister, shockingly different in one small way As if this isn't enough, human luminaries run fast and furious. In addition to Gable, David O. Selznick, Carole Lombard (Baby Herman's latest plaything), and Vivien Leigh (Valiant's dalliance?) all play a role.Who P-p-p-plugged Roger Rabbit? is a comically brilliant sequel, as unique and original as the first time we saw Roger and Jessica together in Wolf's Who Censored Roger Rabbit?, the book that kicked off the whole Toon craze. This version includes an author's sketch of Roger Rabbit PLUS autographs of Gary K. Wolf AND Roger Rabbit himself

Revision with unchanged content. Although technology is brining people of the world in contact with each other at an unprecedented rate (Friedman, 2005), hidden assumptions in cultural dif-ferences still serve to challenge our ability to communicate effectively with each other - including with online instruction. Culture and language mediate, often unconsciously, different conceptual frameworks and value systems that in-fluence how we learn, communicate, and design instruction. This book explores the experiences of 12 designers who have developed online instruction in cross-cultural contexts of over 80 countries. This analysis helps answer the ques-tions: - What cultural differences matter? What assumptions about learning, teaching, and instructional design should be questioned when working cross-culturally? What are some challenges to being culturally sensitive? How can some of these challenges be overcome? This book is of value to anyone work-ing via the Internet with those from other cultures, and particularly for those who are designing teaching and learning experiences. It has been said that understanding cultural issues is not only an important issue; it is arguably the important issue of our time (Fay, 2000).
Latin Epics of the New Testament

Latin Epics of the New Testament

Roger P. H. Green

Oxford University Press
2006
sidottu
Latin Epics of the New Testament is about the growth of Christianity, and in particular the challenge of engaging with the Roman intellectual elite and its highly sophisticated Graeco-Roman tradition. In this culture epics like those of Vergil and Lucan were highly valued for their language, their 'heroic' themes, and their Rome-centred ideologies. Roger Green examines each of these epics in detail, showing how the three authors Juvencus, Sedulius, and Arator repackage the New Testament as epic, and try to make a bridge between two very different cultures. He explores the fascinating questions of how these authors exploit epic themes such as gods, heroes, war, and fate, without playing down the very real theological concerns of their times. All these poets were popular in the Middle Ages and later, and are the pioneers of poetry that leads to Renaissance epic and the famous poems of John Milton.

Like the Internet itself, interest in computing (both local and distant) has grown exponentially. The rapidly changing role of the Internet has resulted in three very different editions of The Internet for Physicians. The first edition attempted to introduce the concept of information transfer and communication and point the way toward a tool of the future. The second edition attempted to assuage trepidation in the use of this emerging tool and suggest the why and wherefore of being connected. The needs that drove those goals have almost completely disappeared. As a result, the bulk of this edition is more focused on the medical aspect of the Internet and its use, and less on the nuts and bolts of connecting and communication through the Web. It has been revamped, reorganized, and expanded to include 30% more content and 90 new illustrations.New to the third edition is an entire section dedicated to Medicine and the Web, with chapters discussing patient education and information, what your patients are seeing on the web, finding quality resources, including clinical-trial and evidence-based medicine sites, how to search and use Pun Med, telemedicine, continuing medical education, medical literature and informatics, applications of on-line journals and submissions, and much more.

Roger P. Bartlett

This book examines in detail the Russian government's policy of settling foreigners in European Russia during the last third of the eighteenth century. The recruitment of foreign settlers was practised by many European states during this period, primarily as part of general population policies which sought the highest possible levels of population. In Russia it was also part of the process of settling and developing frontier regions. Dr Bartlett shows the European and Russian background, describes the genesis of the Empress Catherine II's Manifestos of 1762 and 1763 (which set the policy in motion) and follows the development and implementation of policy. The two most notable ethnic groups among Imperial Russia's foreign settlers were Bulgarians and Germans, but many other nationalities were also involved. A separate chapter deals with urban settlement - foreign entrepreneurs and artisans - including the Armenian community of Astrakhan; and connections are explored with other areas of policy, notably with Catherine's interest in the Baltic provinces, her concern with the Jewish question, and with serfdom; and the question of technical improvement in agriculture during the early years of her reign.
