This intriguing manuscript was extrapolated from Dr. Pamela Robinson's innovative dissertation, "Educating the African American Church toward those with Disabilities to Have an Attitudinal Change," into a published book, The Color of HOPE: African American Mental in the Church. In some fields, a published scholarly book is a preferred method for presenting a comprehensive view of pivotal research. Likewise, a book offers the freedom to discuss details, complications, connections, and ramifications in a way that is not possible in a dissertation. The hope of this pioneering, comprehensive book is to provide religious care professionals and laity with a robust awareness of mental health disparities and the need for partnership between faith based and secular institutions. While there are several insightful texts available about African American mental health as it relates to spirituality, there are few texts designed as cross cultural, multi-modal resources specifically written to include dual audiences both professionals and laity (religious care professional, theologians, therapist, mental health professionals, community leaders, families, and individuals with mental health diagnoses). In The Color of HOPE, renowned Clinical Social Worker and Family Therapist, Dr. Pamela Robinson uses years of experience to increase mental health awareness in the black community and abroad, through captivating real-life stories and simple, down-to-earth explanations of complex psychological problems that the African American community and faith-based institutions confront. Dr. Robinson masterfully blends spirituality, popular culture, quantitative research methodologies, social consciousness, and lived experience in this one-of-a-kind book. The Color of HOPE is a must read not just for the African American Church Community, but for all people, all denominations, and ethnicities across racial lines. This book will enhance your knowledge base on how to help those who are dealing with mental health challenges in the church and community. The Color of HOPE is a must read for a broad range of stakeholders, theologians, professors, clergy, spiritual care givers, therapist, pastors, faith-based institutions, practitioners, policymakers, community members, recipients of services, and others.

What does life really mean? Life is living, breathing, walking, operating in what we were created to do. Life is living your WHY. Mark Twain said that there two important dates in our life, the day we are born in the day we figure out why. This book is about an opportunity to live in that WHY, find that WHY, live that WHY, and pursue that WHY. Along the way we will experience bumps, bruises, obstacles, hurdles and many inconveniences. But our core desire as we exist in separate but different cultures, our common goal is to discover that Why and to live it without question or apology. This is all about loving and being loved, to live out our WHY, to operate within significance. The purpose of life and the reality of life is to be happy, to be at peace, to have joy fully and unapologetically. Freedom is that sense of living. We were born and reach that first year where our understanding becomes clear; we begin to see choices presented to us. Those choices become the bondage that we have to escape from at some point in life. Bondage of other people's opinions, other people's feelings, other people's goals aspirations and dreams. You see, we begin living for others, living the dreams and the designs of other people. Our perception doesn't get a chance to be a part of the equation until we come into that point of understanding. Freedom is that sense of living, that sense of understanding, that sense of knowing. As a child we ate what was presented to us without question. Adults cooked us collard greens and cakes and they presented both to us and we were told to like them. It is only when we get along in life that we get to make the decision if we indeed like both or either. I'm reminded of the story of the mother and daughter that were cooking a ham together. The daughter asked her mom, "Why do we always cut the end of the ham off before we put it in the pan?" Her mother said, "Well I don't know, baby; that's what my mother always did, let's ask her." So together they called the grandmother and she said, "Well my mother always did that, but the reason that she did it was the pan was too small. We had to cut the ends off in order for it to fit in the pan." All this time that ham tasted good and was delicious, but it wasn't because the end was cut off, although that was the perception given.

Pamela Colman Smith is the mysterious artist behind the most renowned tarot deck in the world, for many years forgotten. In a revival of interest in esoteric artists and accessible tarot, curiosity about Pamela is now on the ascendant, but there are still many unanswered questions, especially concerning her later life. Born in London to American parents, Pamela was a prolific illustrator and artist who mixed with the great and good of art and theatre, among them W. B. Yeats and Bram Stoker. ‘Adopted’ by actress Ellen Terry, she spent some years with the Lyceum Theatre crowd, also working as an exotic storyteller, known as Gelukiezanger, in bohemian London. People have questioned her sexuality, her ethnic origins and alleged synaesthesia, assuming her to be biracial and lesbian. These are discussed but the biggest mystery of all is why she converted from mysticism to Catholicism in 1911, removing herself from vibrant London to the isolated Lizard in the west of Cornwall. There, living in relative obscurity, she evangelised Catholicism in a heavily non-conformist area, before moving to Bude in her sixties.

Pamela Colman Smith (1878–1951) is the artist behind the most renowned tarot deck in the world, the Rider-Waite Tarot. She is a woman whose life is as mysterious and alluring as the strange, beautiful figures she was famous for painting. Born in London to American parents, Smith was a prolific artist and illustrator and outspoken suffragette who mixed with the great and good of the London art world, as well as the highest tier of the city’s acting and literary circles. She was ‘adopted’ by actress Ellen Terry and spent several years among the Lyceum Theatre crowd. Friends like W. B. Yeats and Bram Stoker were doubtless intrigued by her work as an exotic storyteller known as Gelukiezanger in bohemian London. Smith always inspired curiosity, and questions regarding her sexuality, ethnic origins and alleged synaesthesia attracted extraordinary interest during her lifetime. The biggest mystery of all, however, is why she converted from mysticism to Catholicism in 1911, removing herself from vibrant London to the isolated Lizard in the west of Cornwall. There, living in relative obscurity, she evangelised Catholicism in a heavily non-conformist area before moving to Bude in her sixties.

Leading figures in Australian robotics research provide an overview and guidance for human–robot interaction (HRI) experimental design and evaluation methodologies that consider the ethical implications of the research and its applications from a human-centred and contextual perspective. The authors explain introductory and advanced topics in HRI with a focus on human-centred evaluation and ethical practices. They also provide an online interactive checklist tool for novice HRI researchers and students to deploy when designing their own studies. The book is structured into three parts. In Part I, the authors first review fundamental methodologies and provide an interactive checklist tool of the HRI experimental study life cycle to guide beginners to the field. Part II introduces an expanded set of approaches to support researchers and practitioners to create high-quality study designs that draw on practices from human-computer interaction, human-centred artificial intelligence, psychology and social science, and advance ethical HRI research. Finally, in Part III, the authors discuss a selection of HRI studies as examples of how the introduced methodologies are adopted, which will support the readers to further understand the fundamental and advanced methodologies described in Parts I and II. The diverse collection of case studies enables readers to grasp the state of the art and apply what they have learned in their own practices. This book is a vital resource for both students new to the field and experienced researchers and practitioners. The book’s practical focus and clear elucidation of relevant case studies, from its introduction to the HRI experimental study life cycle through to advanced methods emerging in the field, ensures that this will greatly benefit progress in the field with human-centred and ethical experimental methodology.

Samuel Richardson's Pamela is a captivating story of one young woman's rebellion against the social order, edited by Peter Sabor with an introduction by Margaret A. Doody in Penguin Classics.Fifteen-year-old Pamela Andrews, alone in the world, is pursued by her dead mistress's son. Although she is attracted to Mr B, she holds out against his demands and threats of abduction and rape, determined to protect her virginity and abide by her moral standards. Psychologically acute in its explorations of sex, freedom and power, Richardson's first novel caused a sensation when it was published, with its depiction of a servant heroine who dares to assert herself. Richly comic and full of lively scenes and descriptions, Pamela contains a diverse cast of characters ranging from the vulgar and malevolent Mrs Jewkes to the aggressive but awkward country squire who serves this unusual love story as both its villain and hero.In her introduction, Margaret Ann Doody discusses the epistolary genre of novels and examines the role of women and class differences. This edition, based on the 1801 text and incorporating corrections made in 1810, makes Richardson's final version of the two-volume generally available for the first time.Samuel Richardson (1689-1761) was born in Derbyshire, the son of a joiner. He received little formal education, but in 1706 was apprenticed to a London printer, going on to become a leading figure of the trade in the capital. Pamela originated as a volume of model letters for unskilled letter-writers, but as Richardson became more fascinated by the characters in his letters than the letters themselves, the germ of a novel began to emerge. Upon its publication in 1740 Pamela; or, Virtue Rewarded became a national sensation. If you enjoyed Pamela, you might like Daniel Defoe's Moll Flanders, also available in Penguin Classics.

'Pamela under the Notion of being a Virtuous Modest Girl will be introduced into all Familes, and when she gets there, what Scenes does she represent? Why a fine young Gentleman endeavouring to debauch a beautiful young Girl of Sixteen.' (Pamela Censured, 1741) One of the most spectacular successes of the burgeoning literary marketplace of eighteeent-century London, Pamela also marked a defining moment in the emergence of the modern novel. In the words of one contemporary, it divided the world 'into two different Parties, Pamelists and Antipamelists', even eclipsing the sensational factional politics of the day. Preached up for its morality, and denounced as pornography in disguise, it vividly describes a young servant's long resistance to the attempts of her predatory master to seduce her. Written in the voice of its low-born heroine, but by a printer who fifteen years earlier had narrowly escaped imprisonment for the seditious output of his press, Pamela is not only a work of pioneering psychological complexity, but also a compelling and provocative study of power and its abuse. Based on the original text of 1740, from which Richardson later retreated in a series of defensive revisions, this edition makes available the version of Pamela that aroused such widespread controversy on its first appearance. ABOUT THE SERIES: For over 100 years Oxford World's Classics has made available the widest range of literature from around the globe. Each affordable volume reflects Oxford's commitment to scholarship, providing the most accurate text plus a wealth of other valuable features, including expert introductions by leading authorities, helpful notes to clarify the text, up-to-date bibliographies for further study, and much more.
