Provides a thorough examination of the role of women in Ascendancy Ireland. The late seventeenth and early eighteenth century was a period of great social and political change within Ireland, as the Protestant Ascendancy gained control of the country, aided by the English government and aristocracy, withwhom the ruling class in Ireland mixed through marriage and travel. The resulting Anglo-Irish elite, with its distinct transnational identity, differed markedly from the preceding Irish elite, but, at the same time, because of itsIrish dimension, was very different also from the contemporary English and Scottish upper classes. Women played key roles in this Anglo-Irish elite, and the nature of the Protestant Ascendancy can only be completely understood byconsidering women's roles fully. This book provides a thorough examination of the role of women in Ascendancy Ireland. It discusses marriage, family and social life; explores women's roles in economic and political life and in charitable activities; and places Irish elite women of this period in their wider historiographical context. The book is based on extensive original research, including among the papers of aristocratic families in Ireland and Britain, and provides a wealth of detail on elite women's lives in this period. Rachel Wilson completed her doctorate in modern history at Queen's University, Belfast.
When Andrew and Rachel found out that one, and then both, of their children had severe autism, their world was turned on its head. This is a book about surviving, and thriving, when something goes horribly wrong. It is a mixture of their story and God's story, and the way in which his has shaped theirs. With clarity and biblical insight, they share their experience of grief and worship, struggle and hope. As well as reflecting on the specific challenges of raising children with special needs, they speak to broader questions: the problem of suffering, building a marriage under pressure, fighting for joy, and trusting in God's goodness. This is not just for families and friends of special needs children, but for all who have been thrown a curve ball in life, and need to know how to lament, worship, pray and hope. Well, it happened. You peed your pants. You probably regret that second (okay, third) lemonade. We’ve all been there. This book has some tips to get you through it (including but not limited to traffic cone pants, extraterrestrial negotiations, food fights, and other very practical techniques). With her playful retro palette, debut author-illustrator Rachel Michelle Wilson offers a space to laugh with yourself through one of life’s most embarrassing moments and remember that you’re never as alone as you think.
A charming and humorous tale about the new girl who is determined to stand out at show-and-tell... by catching a ghost! Sure, you can catch a GHOST, But can you catch a FRIEND? Bringing nothing to show and tell is like wearing shoes without socks. It stinks. So, when all you got is nothing, you need to catch yourself a something. And if you've got gumption, that something could be a ghost. A scary good tale about friendship and acceptance Brought to life with Rachel Michelle Wilson's playfully charming illustrations Perfect for little ones who love all things spooky

Humanity is failing at solving complex socio-ecological problems like global climate change, biodiversity loss and population growth. The existing 'sustainable development' paradigm and its reliance on trade-offs between the three pillars of environment, economics, and equity is not robust enough to maintain global carrying capacity. In this timely intervention, Thomas argues that the holistic and transdisciplinary thinking of four iconic American naturalists – Henry David Thoreau, Aldo Leopold, Rachel Carson, and Edward O. Wilson – can instead help to solve our biggest twenty-first century challenges by synthesizing values from four eras of cultural and environmental history.

The fourteenth winner of the Yale Drama Series prize explores “Blackness” and the reasons why joy and peace might be harder to get than we think What does it mean to be safe when you’re a person of color in the United States? If you were given the chance to leave and create a utopia, would you? Is utopia possible with all of our subconscious bias? Rachel Lynett’s highly satirical and funny play is set in the fictional world following a second Civil War. Bronx Bay, an all-Black state (and neighborhood), is established in order to protect “Blackness.” When Jules’s new partner, Yael, moves into town, community members argue over whether Yael, who is Dominican, can stay. Questions of safety and protection surround both Jules and Yael as the utopia of Bronx Bay confronts within itself where the line is when it comes to defining who is Black and who gets left out in the process. The play is the fourteenth winner of the Yale Drama Series prize and the first one chosen by the Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Paula Vogel.

Step on a crack, break your mother's back, Touch another person's skin, and Dad's gone for good . . .Caddie has a history of magical thinking--of playing games in her head to cope with her surroundings--but it's never been this bad before. When her parents split up, Don't touch becomes Caddie's mantra. Maybe if she keeps from touching another person's skin, Dad will come home. She knows it doesn't make sense, but her games have never been logical. Soon, despite Alabama's humidity, she's covering every inch of her skin and wearing evening gloves to school. And that's where things get tricky. Even though Caddie's the new girl, it's hard to pass off her compulsions as artistic quirks. Friends notice things. Her drama class is all about interacting with her scene partners, especially Peter, who's auditioning for the role of Hamlet. Caddie desperately wants to play Ophelia, but if she does, she'll have to touch Peter . . . and kiss him. Part of Caddie would love nothing more than to kiss Peter--but the other part isn't sure she's brave enough to let herself fall. From rising star Rachel M. Wilson comes a powerful, moving debut novel of the friendship and love that are there for us, if only we'll let them in.
