If any American fictional character of the twentieth century seems likely to be immortal, it is Lorelei Lee of Little Rock, Arkansas, the not-so-dumb blonde who knew that diamonds are a girl's best friend. Outrageous, charming, and unforgettable, she's been portrayed on stage and screen by Carol Channing and Marilyn Monroe and has become the archetype of the footloose, good-hearted gold digger, with an insatiable appetite for orchids, champagne, and precious stones. Here are her "diaries," created by Anita Loos in the Roaring Twenties, as Lorelei and her friend Dorothy barrel across Europe meeting everyone from the Prince of Wales to "Doctor Froyd"-and then back home again to marry a Main Line millionaire and become a movie star. In this delightfully droll and witty book, Lorelei Lee's wild antics, unique outlook, and imaginative way with language shine.
As Nat Hentoff says, "Hearing Bix for the first time was like waking up to the first day of spring." Bix has always inspired such acclaim, for he was an unmatched master of the cornet. Ralph Berton was privileged enough to have been a fan,and younger brother of Bix's drummer, just as Beiderbecke's genius was flowering, before he died in 1931 at age twenty-eight. Listening from behind the piano, tagging along to honky-tonks and jam sessions, Berton heard some of the most extraordinary music of the century, and he brings Bix and his era alive with a remarkable combination of the excitement of youth and the perspective of the five decades that followed, decades that confirmed Bix's place in the pantheon of jazz.

Eighteen-year-old Astronomy student Daphne Browning likes drinking coffee, playing pool and watching the stars above her seaside town of Treadwell. She also has a sea monster living beneath her room, one with sharp claws and far too many heads. Daphne starts having nightmares and the "Dark Creature" beneath her room begins threatening to destroy the entire town and beyond - that is, unless she feeds it one boy a week. The weeks fly by, and Daphne quickly finds herself becoming the most dangerous girl in town. Worse, her goth-obsessed housemate Megan is being visited by the ghosts of deads boys in the night. Turns out, Megan's the "Chosen One". Daphne dreads the end of the week but this time, not just one person will die.
