The summer of 1971 marks a quiet unraveling in the life of seventeen-year-old Steven Colston. Beneath the ordinary rhythms of small-town life, Steve is caught in a private storm. He adores his girlfriend, yet he cannot silence the pull he feels toward other boys-an inner truth he barely understands himself, and one his friends are beginning to sense with unsettling clarity. As he strains to navigate a world with no language for what he feels, the boundaries of his identity begin to blur. But the turmoil within him is mirrored by a darker tension at home. Steve's stepfather carries a festering grudge against Steve's mother, a vindictive motive woven into the very foundation of their marriage. The man's simmering cruelty toward Steve and his siblings grows harder to ignore, and the way his gaze lingers on Steve's younger sister sends a chill deeper than fear. Driven by equal parts protectiveness and desperation, Steve becomes determined to unearth the truth his family has been forced to live beneath-no matter where it leads or what it costs him.

THE HEART AND SOUL OF A SMALL TOWN To fully understand the strength of a small town, one must live in a small town or learn about one or more by investigation and research. Knowing the town history brings forth action and vigor, and reveals the soul and spirit of the town, thus, giving it life. Small towns across the fruited plains make up the solid base for what history has shown to be the heartland of America. Ed Buntin Town reveals: The impact of tragedy. How people caring about people provides solid friendships and brings about cohesion. Faith as the basis of morality. The necessity of the triumvirate: family, church, and school. The meaning of Hoosier Hysteria, an Indiana tradition. Here is a book worth reading, one that is uplifting in knowledge and fulfilling to the reader.

American Intellectual Histories and Historians

This study of American intellectual histories sketches their development from colonial chronicles to today's professional scholarship. It concentrates upon the writings of a dozen or more major historians between the late 1800's and the middle 1900's who have contributed to the study of the history of ideas in America, including Moses Coit Tyler, Edward Eggleston, Charles Beard, Carl Becker, Vernon Farrington, Merle Curti, Perry Miller, and Ralph Gabriel. The various histories are analyzed partly from the perspective of a developing scholarly discipline and partly from the perspective of the "climate of opinion" in which the histories were written. The methods employed by the historians in studying ideas, as well as the substantive interpretations expressed in the histories, are analyzed in relation to the "world-views" or "ideological positions" of the historians themselves. Originally published in 1966. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Sometimes lectionary preachers struggle when situations present themselves in parish life. A congregational member dies, two lives are joined in marriage, a contentious social justice issue demands attention, or a public event like 9/11 shakes us to the core. Although lectionary and worship allow us to deepen our appreciation for the Bible and the themes and emphases of the Christian calendar, they sometimes fail to allow preachers to speak the gospel directly to the situations that occupy their congregations. This book is designed to help pastors and seminarians discover resources they already have to unpack situations and understand them theologically in light of their task of preaching the gospel.

A ground-breaking modern manual on an ancient art, Real Alchemy draws on both modern scientific technology and ancient methods. A laboratory scientist and chemist, Robert Allen Bartlett provides an overview of the history of alchemy, as well as an exploration of the theories behind the practice. Clean, clear, simple, and easy to read, Real Alchemy provides excellent directions regarding the production of plant products and transitions the reader-student into the basics of mineral work—what some consider the true domain of alchemy. New students to practical laboratory alchemy will enjoy reading Real Alchemy and hopefully find the encouragement needed to undertake their own alchemical journey. Bartlett also explains what the ancients really meant when they used the term “Philosopher’s Stone” and describes several very real and practical methods for its achievement. Is the fabled Philosopher’s Stone an elixir of long life or is it a method of transforming lead into gold? Judge for yourself.
