A complete and comprehensive collaboration providing insight on future approaches to telephone survey methodology Over the past fifteen years, advances in technology have transformed the field of survey methodology, from how interviews are conducted to the management and analysis of compiled data. Advances in Telephone Survey Methodology is an all—encompassing and authoritative resource that presents a theoretical, methodological, and statistical treatment of current practices while also establishing a discussion on how state—of—the—art developments in telecommunications have and will continue to revolutionize the telephone survey process. Seventy—five prominent international researchers and practitioners from government, academic, and private sectors have collaborated on this pioneering volume to discuss basic survey techniques and introduce the future directions of the telephone survey. Concepts and findings are organized in four parts—sampling and estimation, data collection, operations, and nonresponse—equipping the reader with the needed practical applications to approach issues such as choice of target population, sample design, questionnaire construction, interviewing training, and measurement error. The book also introduces important topics that have been overlooked in previous literature, including: The impact of mobile telephones on telephone surveys and the rising presence of mobile—only households worldwide The design and construction of questionnaires using Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) software The emerging use of wireless communication and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) versus the telephone Methods for measuring and improving interviewer performance and productivity Privacy, confidentiality, and respondent burden as main factors in telephone survey nonresponse Procedures for the adjustment of nonresponse in telephone surveys In—depth reviews of the literature presented along with a full bibliography, assembled from references throughout the world Advances in Telephone Survey Methodology is an indispensable reference for survey researchers and practitioners in almost any discipline involving research methods such as sociology, social psychology, survey methodology, and statistics. This book also serves as an excellent text for courses and seminars on survey methods at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The diode laser is a versatile and effective solution for oral tissue care. The advantages are manifold such as: faster healing, reduced risk of infection, and postoperative complications. In addition, sessions are not stressful for patients due to their mini-invasiveness with reduced intraoperative and postoperative pain perception. Thanks to these benefits, the use of the diode laser is spreading and opens up new treatment possibilities in various areas of dentistry: from endodontics to periodontology; from oral surgery to aesthetic treatments such as teeth whitening. The book responds to the needs of those clinicians who seek specific and updated training on the use of the diode laser. sidottu
In 1959, Walter M. Miller, Jr., culminated a brief publishing career of eight years with his only novel, A Canticle for Leibowitz. Since that time he has not published another new piece of fiction, although it has been announced that the long anticipated second novel, a parallel work to Canticle, will soon be finished. That one book, however, along with a handful of short stories and novellas, has secured for him a position among the best and most original contemporary science fiction writers. More than thirty years after its publication, Canticle continues to be hailed as one of the greatest science fiction novels ever written and an important work of modern literature. This reference guide presents a complete record of Miller's work and of the resulting criticism. The primary bibliography is divided into books, both English and foreign-language editions; short fiction in periodicals; anthologized works; nonfiction; and adaptations. In the books section, a physical description of English-language first editions is given. Annotations and content notes are provided as appropriate for the other sections, and characters in the short fiction are listed and identified. The secondary material, organized chronologically, contains annotated entries for articles and parts of books, reviews, and dissertations. Also included are a biographical and critical essay on Miller, glossaries of characters and terms and of allusions and other representations in A Canticle for Leibowitz, and individual indexes for both the primary and secondary materials. Title pages, book covers, and jackets of the major works are reproduced.

Characters and Plots in the Fiction of James M. Cain
A pioneer in "hard-boiled fiction," James Mallahan Cain achieved fame with his first novel, The Postman Always Rings Twice. His Double Indemnity and Mildred Pierce soon followed, as did successful movie versions of all three novels. With his seventeen other novels and numerous short stories, Cain remains one of the most influential writers of the twentieth century. This reference guide to Cain's oeuvre offers a chronology detailing his life as reporter, Hollywood scenarist and best-selling author. Entries for his fiction follow, with plot synopses, identification of more than 900 characters, and critical commentaries, many citing works for further reading. An introduction to Cain's fiction and a resource for scholars and aficionados, this compendium provides the most thorough exploration to date of this major American writer.
