The Baton Rouge Bus Boycott: The Mark That Could Not Be Erased
The Baton Rouge Bus Boycott was the first large-scale bus boycott by Blacks of the segregated bus system in the United States. In June of 1953, Martha White, who was a 23-year-old Black housekeeper, refused to move from the Whites Only Section of the city-owned segregated bus. The Black church and community came together both legally and physically. Within days, the impact to the city-owned segregated buses demanded public policy changes in Baton Rouge. Discover how hidden figures like Martha White and unsung heroes of the Baton Rouge Bus Boycott created the blueprint for the Free Ride System. This is a coloring book of a poem that reflects people around that time, historical places, and sequential events of the Baton Rouge Bus Boycott in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Two years later in 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for sitting in the Whites Only section of a segregated bus. Consequently, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led a 13-month bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama modeled after the Baton Rouge Bus Boycott's blueprint. The Montgomery Bus Boycott ended when the Supreme Court ruled segregation on public buses was unconstitutional.

This book is not for those who just want to be told what to believe. Rather, it is designed to demonstrate to the reader what is the genuine expertise and what is not. And to empower them to discern for themself what is true expertise rather than false. With 36 graphs and hundreds of scientific references, this information-crammed book seeks to guide the reader to answers to crucial questions such as the following. How can you distinguish real expertise from false? How can you tell who are the real medical experts? How do people become experts anyway? How do some get recognised as experts, and others not? Does that expertise-recognition process actually make sense? Or could it actually be severely flawed? Why are many senior science people so critical of medical research? Is "peer review" a useful indicator of competence? Is it safest to just follow what the most senior professors say? Why were no safety studies published of the non-gamma-2 amalgams now contained in millions of people's teeth? This unique book (written before the Covid pandemic) shows for the first time: - How millions of people in the US, UK, and elsewhere have had health and lives devastated by pseudo-evidence-based healthcare promoted by officially-designated experts (causing mainly non-autistic disabilities). The system of evidence-defying untruths issuing from official experts to deceive victims and cover up this catastrophe. How the science bureaucracy's system of "peer-reviewed" journals suppresses scientific truth and talent rather than advances it. How the fact of this medical catastrophe of pseudo-expertise has itself been kept censored by the cheap false excuses of the anonymous unaccountable so-called peer-review system. Why brain-changing air pollution has caused moral and cultural-social transformations, including the revolution of some longstanding attitudes. Practical ways you can distinguish life-saving genuine expertise from death-threatening official charlatanism. The institutional changes needed to end the failures both of health systems and of systems of scientific publication and promotion. Robin P Clarke is uniquely-qualified to write on these matters, having authored a number of notable medical scientific papers including the definitive unfaulted theory of autism, with numerous confirmed predictions, and yet unusually having no conflicts of interests (commercial, institutional, career). And with far too much direct personal experience of how the medical "expertise" system actually works in grim practice.

Though his father had faced bankruptcy, James Clarke Hook (1819–1907) nevertheless managed to paint himself into country-gentlemanhood, becoming famous for his landscapes of British coastal scenes and his ability to evoke not just the sights but also the sounds and even the smell of the sea.James Clarke Hook, Juliet McMaster’s lively biography of the brilliant but underappreciated Victorian painter, brings the reader through Hook’s rigorous training at the Royal Academy Schools, his travelling studentship in Florence and Venice, and his work as a historical painter, to the discovery of his métier as a painter of contemporary rural and coastal scenes. Part of the secret of Hook’s success was his resolution to paint the final large canvas of his seascapes onsite, braving wind and weather – for which he invented an easel that was adaptable to uneven terrain. McMaster’s research led her to retrace the painter’s footsteps to the rocky headlands and sheltered bays where, over a hundred years ago, Hook had set up his easel to capture the tang of sea. McMaster connects Hook, an academician for half a century, with the major figures and movements of Victorian art – including the Pre-Raphaelites John Everett Millais and Holman Hunt, the etcher Samuel Palmer, and the painter and sculptor G.F. Watts.James Clarke Hook worked alongside the fishermen and rural families who populate and enliven his canvases; this book reinvigorates our understanding of his artistic process and unique sense of place.

One of the most prolific science fiction writers in history, Arthur C. Clarke began publishing science fiction in the 1930s and is working on the fourth novel in the Odyssey series (3001) nearly 60 years later. This study, the only one on his recent work, features detailed analyses of his eight most recent novels within the context of his literary canon. The novels discussed are Rendezvous with Rama, Imperial Earth, The Fountains of Paradise, 2010: Odyssey Two, The Songs of the Distant Earth, 2061: Odyssey Three, Ghost from the Grand Banks, and The Hammer of God. The intention of this study is to provide both conventional and alternative readings so that students and readers who love Clarke's fiction can develop their critical skills. A biographical chapter focuses primarily on Clarke's early interest in science, his work during World War II, his move to Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) in 1956, and his writing career. A chapter on genre discusses the genre of science fiction and Clarke's contribution to it. Each of the eight novels covered is discussed in an individual chapter that features sections on plot development and structure, narrative point of view, character development, and themes. Each novel is also examined from an alternate critical approach, such as feminist, gender, or postcolonial, to provide the reader with another perspective from which to consider the work. A bibliography of Clarke's fiction, selected nonfiction, general and scholarly criticism, and selected reviews and criticism of each of the eight novels completes the volume. Because of its currency, easy to use format, and thorough critical approach, this study is essential for student use and to update the library's critical material on Arthur C. Clarke.

Naked Without a Hat: An Extraordinary Adventure through Relocation Astrology
After a year of great loss, Alana said, "You want to change your life, my friend, you must find where you belong. Not every city or country on this planet welcomes or supports you. Most places will fight your energy. If you want your life to get better, you must see an Astrocartographer." When I started this journey into Astrocartography - or relocation astrology - the science of calculating where you truly belong on this planet through your astrological chart, I was very skeptical. What I experienced when I took that leap of faith and journeyed to Greece, where I was told I belonged, was extraordinary and life changing. This incredible adventure is full of humor with unbelievable connections and synchronicities. Astrocartography is a fantastical idea when you think about it, but if you have the courage to trust and step outside of your comfort zone, magic happens Two amazing stories came from this one adventure; one of courage and trust, and one an intoxicating love story that reaches through time. I invite you into the exciting world of Astrocartography with me, and the wonderful and extraordinary adventures that can happen when you leave fear behind.

Stochastic Processes for Water Scientists

Stochastic Processes for Water Scientists

The discipline of Stochastic Processes is usually treated as a branch of mathematics, and there are plenty of books for mathematicians on the subject. Equally, there are very many books, both for statisticians and environmental scientists, on "Time Series Analysis", analysing the structure of data sequences where measurements are made at equal time-intervals and are free from "intermittent" behaviour. But this book deals with the analysis of events which occur intermittently in time and space; through a very wide range of examples drawn from many areas of environmental science in which the role of water is central, the book shows how the same analytical procedures can be applied to very many different problems. The book s many examples include: analysis of time intervals between el Ni?o events, frequency of dry spells, the relation between heavy rainfall and flooding, occurrences of gravel disturbance in upland trout streams which damages trout spawn deposits and the cellular structure of rainfall. The book does not aim to be an exhaustive treatment of all possible applications of stochastic process models in the environmental sciences, but should be regarded as a source book. Its aim is to encourage students and research workers to see how environmental problems can be put into a probabilistic framework, and to draw their attention to analogous problems and solutions in other fields of environmental science in which water, and the transport of material by water, is an essential characteristic.

Millions of children suffer from anxiety, which can be extremely limiting, causing kids to miss school, opt out of activities with friends, and refuse to speak or participate in a variety of situations. Furthermore, children who are diagnosed with anxiety or brought into therapy often feel embarrassed about not being "normal." Focusing on the problem of anxiety can stress kids out and make them feel ashamed. But when the focus is on their strengths and their vivid imaginations, children are empowered to face their anxiety head-on.The Anxiety Workbook for Kids is a fun and unique workbook grounded in evidence-based CBT and designed to help children understand their anxious thoughts within a positive framework-a perspective that will allow kids to see themselves as the highly imaginative individuals they are, and actually appreciate the role imagination plays in their anxiety. With this workbook, children will learn that, just as they are capable of envisioning vivid scenarios that fuel their anxiety, they are capable of using their imagination to move away from anxious thoughts and become the boss of their own worries. With engaging CBT-based activities, games, and illustrations-and with a focus on imagination training and developing skills like problem solving, assertiveness, positive thinking, body awareness, relaxation, and mindfulness-this book will help kids stand up to the "worry bully" and harness the power of their imagination for good.
