Minnie is alone, high up in her favourite tree, looking out over a distant forest fire. She and her stepfather Dan are stuck with each other, living in their small cabin at the foot of the mountain after Minnie's mother died. When Minnie and her friend Billy discover four giant footprints on a mountain trail, Dan puts it down to hoaxers. But Minnie knows better. Kaayii is sitting at the top a tree watching the smoke from a raging forest fire that has forced him and his clan to move to this side of the mountain. He's not sure about the humans living down by the sea below. Gradually their parallel worlds entwine in a moving tale of grief and healing in a remote mountain landscape.
When Minnie spots a white boat bringing strangers to the cove below her cabin, she fears the hard-won peace of her tiny community at the foot of Bigfoot Mountain will be shattered. Kaayii too has to deal with an intruder on the mountain and, injured, needs to reach his family across the water. The two inhabit separate worlds but must find a way to work together to avoid disaster and protect the people and places they hold dear.

In die Ausgabe seiner „Werke“ (1809–1816) hat Friedrich Maximilian Klinger seine beiden Tragödien „Roderico“ und „Oriantes“ ebenso wie die Komödie „Die zwo Freundinnen“ nicht aufgenommen. Der Schauplatz von „Roderico“ ist das mittelalterliche Spanien, von „Oriantes“, dem letzten von Klingers Stücken, das antike Thrazien.Verschleiert werden sollte auf diese Weise, dass Klinger, der in Diensten des russischen Großfürsten Paul stand, mit den Ideen seiner Titelhelden von Freiheit, Gerechtigkeit und Moral, für die sie sich selbst zum Opfer bringen, auch auf den Despotismus im Zarenreich anspielte. Den Anstoß für das Lustspiel, in dem ein eifersüchtiger Ehemann erfolgreich gegen die innige Verbundenheit seiner Frau mit einer Freundin intrigiert, hat die Beziehung zweier Damen der Hofgesellschaft gegeben. Wieder verlegt Klinger wohl aus Gründen der Diskretion den Ort der Handlung, diesmal auf ein Landgut am Rhein. Als Neudrucke werden die drei Dramen nun wieder verfügbar.
