Reach children and families and help them navigate the child welfare system Case planning is one of the fundamental steps in working with dependent children, yet it is also one of the most challenging. Essentials of Child Welfare presents the key information clinical social workers, child advocates, family law attorneys, and other human services personnel need to work successfully with children and families in the child welfare system. Essentials of Child Welfare is packed with step-by-step guidelines for intervening proactively with foster care children and their caretakers. Techniques are presented for handling a number of related topics, including attachment issues, substance abuse, sexual abuse (victim and perpetrator), suicidal ideation, eating disorders, learning disabilities, juvenile delinquency, domestic abuse, and many more. As part of the Essentials of Social Work Practice series, this book offers a concise yet thorough overview of child welfare, numerous tips for best practices, and a prioritized assembly of all the information and techniques that must be at one’s fingertips to practice knowledgeably, effectively, and ethically. Each concise chapter features numerous callout boxes highlighting key concepts, bulleted points, and extensive illustrative material, as well as "Test Yourself" questions that help you gauge and reinforce your grasp of the information covered.
Pray Like This

Pray Like This

Rodney A. Werline

T. T.Clark Ltd
2007
nidottu
Werline encourages us to look at prayer in the following way: to attempt to understand how prayers are tied to particular cultural and social settings. Prayers are part of and expressions of a collection of cultural ideas that have been arranged within a system that seems coherent and obvious to those writings the biblical texts. Prayers participate in and express a person's worldview. Werline shows the ways that - though many biblical prayers are familiar to us - biblical texts and contemporary readers come from different worlds. The Hebrew Bible and the New Testament contain many prayers. Large volumes have been written on prayer within a single book, or within the writings of one author, like Paul, or an individual prayer, such as the Lord's Prayer. Werline does not examine every prayer in the Bible or even write exhaustively on a single prayer. He has highlighted a few significant features of each prayer, and some of the prayers vividly exhibit the influence of a particular society's vision. For example, he examines the prayers of 1 and 2 Kings and 1 and 2 Chronicles because of the ways they are tightly tied to the authors' views of history. The writers' interpretation of history profoundly influenced significant portions of the Bible as well as the literature of early Judaism.
Practice of Education in Trinidad & Tobago: Does it Infringe on the Human Rights of Disabled Students?
In this research, I questioned if the education system in Trinidad & Tobago caters to students with special education needs. I begin with a brief description of the history of the education system in the country as a means of better understanding how we progressed to our present position. I then began seeking answers to if our disabled students' human rights are being violated.

Money, Power, and Elections

Money, Power, and Elections

Rodney A. Smith

Louisiana State University Press

Have campaign finance reform laws actually worked? Is money less influential in electing candidates today than it was thirty years ago when legislation was first enacted? Absolutely not, argues Rodney A. Smith in this passionately written, fact-filled, and provocative book. According to Smith, the laws have had exactly the opposite of their intended effect. They have increased the likelihood that incumbents in the House and Senate will be reelected, and they have greatly diminished the chances that candidates who are not wealthy will be elected. Smith's claims are supported by convincing data; he collected and analysed information about all federal elections since 1920. These data show clearly that money matters now more than ever. Smith thinks that reform legislation has created a new inequality for candidates that, if left unchecked, threatens to destroy the American electoral process by obliterating the foundational principle of free speech. He argues that ""money buys speech"" and when candidates lack money to buy media time and space they are effectively silenced. Their inability to ""speak freely"" violates the most significant intentions of our nation's founders: that a sovereign citizenry elect its own leaders based on a free exchange of ideas. For Smith, campaign finance reform has unwittingly unbalanced the checks and balances created by the Framers of the Constitution. After presenting a detailed historical overview of how we have reached the present crisis, Smith proposes a simple solution: institute a process that completely discloses relevant information about campaign donors and recipients of donations. All disclosures would be available to the media, which would be able to investigate and report them fully. Only then, Smith believes, will the United States have the opportunity to be the democratic republic that its founders intended.
The Constitution Goes to College

The Constitution Goes to College

Rodney A. Smolla

American college campuses, where ideas are freely exchanged, contested, and above all uncensored, are historical hotbeds of political and social turmoil. In the past decade alone, the media has carefully tracked the controversy surrounding the speech of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at Columbia, the massacres at Virginia Tech, the dismissal of Harvard's President Lawrence Summers, and the lacrosse team rape case at Duke, among others. No matter what the event, the conflicts that arise on our campuses can be viewed in terms of constitutional principles, which either control or influence outcomes of these events. In turn, constitutional principles are frequently shaped and forged by campus culture, creating a symbiotic relationship in which constitutional values influence the nature of universities, which themselves influence the nature of our constitutional values. In The Constitution Goes to College, Rodney A. Smolla—a former dean and current university president who is an expert on the First Amendment—deftly uses the American university as a lens through which to view the Constitution in action. Drawing on landmark cases and conflicts played out on college campuses, Smolla demonstrates how five key constitutional ideas—the living Constitution, the division between public and private spheres, the distinction between rights and privileges, ordered liberty, and equality—are not only fiercely contested on college campuses, but also dominate the shape and identity of American university life. Ultimately, Smolla compellingly demonstrates that the American college community, like the Constitution, is orderly and hierarchical yet intellectually free and open, a microcosm where these constitutional dichotomies play out with heightened intensity.

Selected as an outstanding book in vascular surgery by members of the Society for Vascular Surgery.* This unique new text describes the current understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis of human atherosclerosis. It also details the methods for quantitating and characterizing both experimental and clinical lesions, and describes the methods for preparing available animal models. Providing an in-depth review of each of these topics, the text organizes the information in one volume for the convenience of the reader. The text is divided into two sections. First is a description of the cell biology, biochemistry and pharmacology of normal vessels and of atherosclerotic human lesions, with details of the methods to accurately characterize and quantitate the disease. Secondly, it presents a description of the methods for preparing the available experimental animal models, including a discussion of the distribution and pathological characteristics of the lesions. It also includes comparisons of human atherosclerosis and experimental animal models. Intended to provide a basis for expediting future research in this priority health care area, this text compiles the available information for those who treat patients with atherosclerosis or who are involved in atherosclerosis research. It is of particular interest to students, physicians, and academic and commercial researchers.

Hilbert Space Methods in Signal Processing

Hilbert Space Methods in Signal Processing

Rodney A. Kennedy; Parastoo Sadeghi

Cambridge University Press
2013
sidottu
This lively and accessible book describes the theory and applications of Hilbert spaces and also presents the history of the subject to reveal the ideas behind theorems and the human struggle that led to them. The authors begin by establishing the concept of 'countably infinite', which is central to the proper understanding of separable Hilbert spaces. Fundamental ideas such as convergence, completeness and dense sets are first demonstrated through simple familiar examples and then formalised. Having addressed fundamental topics in Hilbert spaces, the authors then go on to cover the theory of bounded, compact and integral operators at an advanced but accessible level. Finally, the theory is put into action, considering signal processing on the unit sphere, as well as reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces. The text is interspersed with historical comments about central figures in the development of the theory, which helps bring the subject to life.

Like a lot of you, I searched the internet, libraries, and asked hundreds of people where I could find information to teach my kids how to think for themselves, make a plan, and reach for goals. But to my surprise, I wasn't the only one who didn't know how to teach it to them or even where to look so I invented my own learning style called "Reverse Education". Much like the bank's "Reverse Mortgages" to help home owners get extra money each month instead of paying it out, I decided to gather information and create a book that would allow children to explore different career goals that they may not of ever thought of before at a young age to see for themselves if it would be a choice that would make them successful and happy long term. Then they could take the information to a trusted adult and start taking steps to achieve their dream career as early as right now. As you go through the different goal categories, you will see who, why, where, and when answers to your questions about each goal choice. We give you ideas of projects to do for experience and money making opportunities too. Don't just wonder what it would be like... Do it to the best of your ability and find out which career is best for you Rodney Allen Brecht

This fictionally autobiographical account is based on the life of Internationally Known Intuitive Life Coach Rod Robertson from the beginning of his life journey to adulthood. In this first book in the series the reader is given an intimate peek into the life events, people and guides that helped to shape his destiny. The reader is taken from death in the womb to a life less ordinary. The author invites us to follow along as he learns about life as an outcast and finds his way. The author reveals the good and the bad of his gift in a soulful revelation of his life. In the shadows darkly lit... we find many things."The warm summer rain surrounded us with a heavy mist as we stood in the alley like statues along some forgotten path. They stood there pale and gray in the shadows darkly lit drawn to my light. I stood there all alone in a crowd of long dead spirits. The weather didn't bother them and they gave no real regard to the fact that I was soaking wet. What did they care? They couldn't feel it. Death rids you of many common worries. They had become passengers on the ride that was my life and all they were worried about was the final destination. Each spirit was waiting anxiously for their stop; their point of no return. That is, after all, why they had gathered around me." Excerpt from "IN THE SHADOWS DARKLY LIT" By Rodney A Robertson

Sin Is Not Your Master

Sin Is Not Your Master

Rodney A McGlothlin

Sin. It is, in itself, the seed of all evil. It is the source of repetitive, addictive actions we cannot seem to break, and innately destructive human behavior. Left to our own devices, our hearts become filled with it. If you or someone you love is fighting against the clutches of persistent sin, then Dr. Rodney A. McGlothlin's ground-breaking Sin is Not Your Master: How to Vanquish the Enemy and Live Triumphantly for Life is the key you need to unlock the door to the way out. Hope and strength can be found in the biblically-based tools outlined within these pages, replete with over 200 verses of life-changing scripture. It promises victory over the Enemy and in the ultimate war for our souls once coupled with the powerful faith and authority found in the Cross, which has already smashed the chains of sin. The author argues that most Christians live far below the calling that God has created and made provisions for. This book opens the door to a loving relationship with God and Jesus Christ, resulting in eternal freedom from sin's attractive pull, and mastery over one's flesh. Comprised with thirteen keys to "walk in victory," and three sections that reveal these progressive lessons, Sin is Not Your Master teaches the biblical, and only, way to permanently defeat ongoing sin.
