In this collection of poems, written in 'ecstatic freestyle', Rohn Bayes distills and shares the inner workings of his mind and the messages he finds there as if he were urgently communing with his congregation from the pulpit of free thought and wild wisdom. Influences as disparate as Kabir, Rumi, Whitman and hip hop are evident and the resulting style is bold, unique and refreshing. From meditations on war to transcendent epiphanies on mosquitos to bike rides to Christmas stories, the subject matter he explores is down to earth but universal, common but ringing with the thrill of found truth.I'm not sure who his congregation is - the street people he encounters or the characters in his dreams or everybody he meets but it's compelling as heck. Be prepared to be delighted. If poetry is about passion and being transformed (which it is) then this collection delivers. - Isaka Castanoves
I started to notice the link between image and word in my writing, mostly on Facebook posts using cell phone pictures, and then I remembered a book I have in my library, one of my favorites. It's called 'The Three Perfections' by Michael Sullivan and it's about painting, poetry and calligraphy in the classic Chinese style. That book was the inspiration for this book. They saw no difference between the poetry and the painting or to put it more precisely they saw the symbiosis between the image and the word. The brush strokes created both and in this way transformed the canvas into a multi-dimensional universe. The simplicity and directness of those lines holds a peculiar power. They were evoking both a feeling and an understanding, a landscape of familiarity and a knowing. Some kind of secret truth is released by the poetry, a door is opened. The branches part, the waters flow from the hidden spring and below the surface the reader sees the treasure clearly, not as if in a dream. It's really quite beautiful.I hope I can only do half as good.
Create eight top-down beanies using a handy measuring template. Every beanie begins at the crown the same way: by crocheting a half double crochet circle and increasing until it measures the dimensions on the template for the size of beanie you want to make. From there, directions are included to create stylish, modern and wearable designs for everyone in the family. The best part is that these beanies work with any yarn weight, any hook size and any gauge. Each beanie in the book is made using worsted-weight yarn.
Tunisian crochet, sometimes called afghan crochet, is a crochet technique that uses an elongated crochet hook with a stopper. A combination of knitting, crocheting and weaving, Tunisian crochet features both a forward pass and a return pass, giving the piece a unique fabric all to itself. The afghan is 46" wide and 54" long, pillow is 12".
