The Geotechnical Engineering Investigation Handbook provides the tools necessary for fusing geological characterization and investigation with critical analysis for obtaining engineering design criteria. The second edition updates this pioneering reference for the 21st century, including developments that have occurred in the twenty years since the first edition was published, such as:• Remotely sensed satellite imagery • Global positioning systems (GPS) • Geophysical exploration • Cone penetrometer testing • Earthquake studies • Digitizing of data recording and retrieval • Field and laboratory testing and instrumentation • Use of the Internet for data retrieval The Geotechnical Engineering Investigation Handbook, Second Edition is a comprehensive guide to a complete investigation: study to predict geologic conditions; test-boring procedures; various geophysical methods and when each is appropriate; various methods to determine engineering properties of materials, both laboratory-based and in situ; and formulating design criteria based on the results of the analysis. The author relies on his 50+ years of professional experience, emphasizing identification and description of the elements of the geologic environment, the data required for analysis and design of the engineering works, and procuring the data. By using a practical approach to problem solving, this book helps engineers consider geological phenomena in terms of the degree of their hazard and the potential risk of their occurrence.
In November, 1950, with the highly successful Inchon Landing behind him, Gen. Douglas MacArthur planned the last major offensive of what was to be a brief "conflict": the drive that would push the North Koreans across the Yalu River into Manchuria. In northern Korea, US forces assembled at Chosin Reservoir to cut behind the North Korean forces blocking the planned march to Manchuria. Roy E. Appleman, noted historian of the Korean conflict, describes the tragic fate of the troops of the 31st Regimental Combat Team which fought this engagement and presents a thorough analysis of the physical conditions, attitudes, and command decisions that doomed them.

"I wish to recommend this dissertation enthusiastically. I have found that it provides excellent insights into the nature of Christ as Mediator and into the sanctuary doctrine, as well as into the larger field of Adventist theology. I am pleased that now is available to the wider scholarly audience, both within and outside of Seventh-day Adventist circles."-Richard M. Davidson, AndrewsUniversity."In this work, the great challenge that theologians, both Catholic and Protestant, have not yet faced up to the last consequences is accomplished in an exemplary way: to think systematically from the data and interpretation principles provided only by Scripture and throughout Scripture. Mastery, the author combines deductive work-by identifying and explaining previously theneed that all theology has for a principle of articulation that allows him to see reality as a connected whole-and inductive work-by getting from Scripture the interpretation that Scripture itself makes of that principle. Besides, the author clearly differentiates the biblical interpretation of this crucial question from the interpretations that theologians of different orientations, over the centuries, have imposed on Scripture-interpretations coming from human Philosophy, mainly Greek philosophy. Thus, or the first time, in systematic theology, the biblical text is allowed to show how it connects the totality of reality with the principle of unity constituted by the work of Christ in the Sanctuary."-Ra l Kerbs, River Plate Adventist University."The Principle of Articulation is a groundbreaking work that all theologians and pastors should read and understand. In it, Dr. Roy Graf meticulously explains the macro-hermeneutical role that the principle of articulation plays in any systematic understanding of Christian Theology. After presenting the main interpretations of the principle of articulation adopted throughout Christian history, Dr. Graf clearly shows that biblical authors consistently assume the principle of articulation is Christ Himself operating in the flow of time from His Sanctuary. Based on the solid foundation of the sola and tota Scriptura principles, Dr.Graf opens the door to a fresh reinterpretation of Christian Theology that will challenge classical and modern interpretations of Christianity by making possible the gathering of the complete and harmonious system of historical truths expressed in the manifold contents of the Bible."-Fernando L. Canale, Andrews University.

This book sets out a new model for psychodynamic supervision, designed around relational psychoanalytic theory and practice. It emphasizes the development of the self of the therapist and working directly with the emergent therapeutic relationship. Building on Barsness’s seminal Core Competencies of Relational Psychoanalysis text, this book is grounded in those theoretical competencies. The author offers what he calls the MAMAL method of supervision—(M—muse; A—affect; M—metabolization; A—articulation; and L—learning), a method that privileges (1) affect over cognition, (2) the use of the therapist’s subjectivity as the primary portal to the patient’s internal and interpersonal world, (3) the immersion of the supervisor’s subjectivity in the supervisory process, and (4) viewing the patient as a muse rather than an object of assessment. The MAMAL method approach enriches the supervisory experience and enhances the therapeutic process, fostering a therapeutic climate where both therapist and patient can thrive. It is attention to our own humanity and woundedness that facilitates a deep connection to our patients and animates the progression of the therapeutic process and is at the core of this supervision model.Drawing on clinical experience, this book is grounded in research and is a readable resource for psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, and mental health professionals, providing a clear guide to a relational model of supervision and a concise understanding of relational theory and practice.

The Functional Analysis of Politics (1967) discusses the feasibility of looking at political activities as constituting a ‘system’ and of the concepts of ‘structures’ and ‘functions’ as general categories of political activities. As well as expounding and criticising structural-function analysis, it applies it to political institutions, groups, and the notion of political development.
Nuclear Deterrence (1968) examines the issue of nuclear-armed powers deterring attacks upon themselves with the threats of devastating retaliatory responses. It looks at the number of assumptions and conditions associated with the policy, and the difficulties of national governments in maintaining these positions as part of their political platforms.
With this volume, the author is approaching a milestone of 2,000 published poems. Every volume contains at least ten sections with ten poems in each. This one is no exception. There has become a loose-fitting pattern of an extensive array of poetry. Classic ardent love and sensitive romance are found in the first two sections, followed by poems about fascinating life experiences and elegantly-phrased humor. In this volume contemplation and advice come next, then delves into the realm of the mysterious and revealing proclivities of the author. Finally, the book is anchored in political and social commentary and concludes with heaven felt verse. I was tempted to call this "Dreams of You from Shakespeare II," however, I must leave such judgment of belonging to the exquisitely elite to you the reader and posterity. I did include another Love Sonnet in Shakespearean format, which I count worthy of the master along with more general sonnets and praised poems. For the critics among you, my wide range employed is not only in subject matter, but in level of interest from those who delight in the light and easy to understand airs to those who enjoy the entangling of semantics with alternative meanings.
Deadly Islamic extremists bear down on Timbuktu, a city where several libraries contain priceless manuscripts. Historically, these terrorists destroy anything they consider contrary to the Sharia precepts. A desperate plan is formulated to ensure the preservation of the documents. The concept is simple-get them the hell out Jac Teerink and Elaine Prevot carry carefully packed suitcases containing two ancient handwritten copies of the Quran. Also in their care is a one-of-a-kind history of North Africa prepared before most linguists believe a written language existed in the area. Instructions provided to the couriers are simple: drive the documents from Timbuktu to Nyala, Sudan. Deliver them to a Professor Ammon Darwishi. No sweat. But the Boko Haram has other plans. Jac and Elaine are ambushed in Chad, just hours before entering Sudan. Jac is beaten, nailed to a tree, and left to die. Elaine is tortured, raped, and won't live through the night. Then pipeliner Brock VanMarter and his buddy, Harry Newhall happen along.
"Where Love Dares to Go," contains my 2,000th published poem and my 34th book of poetry. As a writer, I found a depth of fulfillment in writing poetry that transcended my other twelve books in feeling, freedom of expression, and facility for functioning at so many levels with the broadest possible range of subject matter. I provide a minimum of one hundred poems consistent with other volumes divided into at least ten sections. The first two sections are soaring poems of love and romance. The second two are cute and humorous, but with life lessons, nostalgia, and odes to simple pleasures. Sections five and six are more introspective on contemporary life and times. Section seven delves into the mysterious, mythical beings and ethereal scenes. Eight is my sharpened lance poking holes in balloons, sometimes with acerbic verbiage and sometimes with critical contempt of calumny. Nine is scolding and scalding social commentary. Ten is a mix of political, patriotic and religious beliefs put into practical life situations.
Classical poetry is a passion and an art that freezes thoughts in time for viewing in the future. The beauty of an allegorical allusion brings life and laughter into alignment with inspiring words that rhyme. Painting portraits that describe feelings perpetuates in the memory images of fantasy and romance. Reading them over and over leads to discovery of clues the poet left like footprints that are discovered where none have gone before. Join me in this world of timeless circumstance where the magician is the poet who deftly pulls off a trick while creating an illusion. Four new Love Sonnets in Shakespearean format are a perfect match in rhyme and meter to his classics. You be the judge of how closely they approach the master in depth of thought. The poem of Boudica is of the greatest warrior queen from the past who almost succeeded in running the Romans out of the British Isles. The Playtime Section is filled with ten humorous poems with groundhogs, cats, aand biscuits with sausage gravy among the subjects. Social media critique includes hit and run clickers and posters without hosters. Even the serious section is light hearted with poems about Sean the Gian Lepruchuan and the Seven Dwarves of Old Age. A new Texas tale is told of how Paul Bunyan met Pecos Bill and why his cow turned blue. Then I present how precious are your thoughts, the naked truth and when poets write what do they mean."Always Means Forever" removes the dimension of time with clever concepts that stretch the imagination with glimpses into a future fulfilled.
"Sonnets from the Inner Sanctum" is another milestone for me. I have written 1,875 poems and this is volume thirty-one. One section is always humor. One section is romance. One section is always mysterious. One section deals with chance. One section is nostalgia. One section is politics. One section is always advice. One section is filled with tricks. In one, I pour my heart out. In another I hide my soul. Whate'er your predilection, your entertainment is my goal. Some things in life are simple. Some things in life are free. Some things in life are precious and some can never be. Like some roads, they may wander over hill and dale. Some circumstances are special, but each journey tells a tale. When you read what I have written, you may have been intent, But your interpretation may not be the one I meant. Therein lies understanding of the words in all their beauty. You are the only judge there is for what is in my poetry. So have fun on your journey as you read along with me. With classical rhyme and rhythm enjoy a fantasy. A word has several meanings and you may not have a clue. What it is I meant by it, but it may come to you. The secret to understanding is to stimulate your brain. So read it over and over, and then read it again.
