Reunir este extenso libro de relatos, ha llevado a os de intensa investigaci n en los pa ses en los que Dar o vivi , como Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Espa a y Francia donde adem s de escribir sus mejores versos, cultiv activamente el relato corto y largo. F lix Rub n Garc a Sarmiento, conocido como Rub n Dar o naci en Nicaragua en la ciudad de Metapa, hoy Ciudad Dar o, Matagalpa el 18 de enero de 1867 y falleci el 6 de febrero de 1916 en la ciudad de Le n. Dar o fue el m ximo representante del modernismo literario de la lengua espa ola y por eso se le considera el Pr ncipe de las Letras Castellanas. Es el poeta que ha tenido mayor y m s duradera influencia en la poes a moderna en el mbito hisp nico. Aunque seg n su fe de bautismo el primer apellido de Rub n era Garc a, la familia paterna era conocida desde generaciones por el apellido Dar o. El propio Rub n lo explica en su autobiograf a: "Seg n lo que algunos ancianos de aquella ciudad de mi infancia me han referido, un mi tatarabuelo ten a por nombre Dar o. En la peque a poblaci n conoc ale todo el mundo por don Dar o; a sus hijos e hijas, por los Dar os, las Dar os. Fue as desapareciendo el primer apellido, a punto de que mi bisabuela paterna firmaba ya Rita Dar o; y ello, convertido en patron mico, lleg a adquirir valor legal; pues mi padre, que era comerciante, realiz todos sus negocios ya con el nombre de Manuel Dar o..."
