Friendship, devotion, reconciliation, childlessness, poverty, faith, commitment, romance, and love. These are issues many women will face in their lives today, and they are the same issues Ruth dealt with centuries ago. In this delightful book, Diana Hagee leads women through the book of Ruth and explores the powerful promise of God's redemptive grace for each woman and for all mankind. Each chapter details the struggle of Israel and our entire humanity as we seek to find the answers to our emptiness, hunger, loneliness and estrangement from God.The historic characters show God's story of redemption, culminating in the romance between Ruth (the heroine) and Boaz (the kinsman redeemer).

This volume provides a readable introduction to the narrative book of Ruth appropriate for the student, pastor, and scholar. LaCocque combines historical, literary, feminist, and liberationist approaches in an engaging synthesis. He argues that the book was written in the post-exilic period and that the author was a woman. Countering the fears and xenophobia of many in Jerusalem, the biblical author employed the notion of h.esed (kindness, loyalty, steadfast love), which transcends any national boundaries. LaCocque focuses on redemption and levirate marriage as the two legal issues that recur throughout the text of Ruth. Ruth comes from the despised people of Moab but becomes a model for Israel. Boaz, converted to the model of steadfast love, becomes both redeemer and levir for Ruth and thus fulfills the Torah. In the conclusion to his study, the author sketches some parallels with Jesus' hermeneutics of the Law as well as postmodern problems and solutions.

When her friend was in need, Ruth remained loyal.Ruth was a young woman who lived at a time when people seemed to only care about themselves--not God. And certainly not each other. So imagine how remarkable it was when Ruth gave up everything--her comfort, home, and even hope for a future--to travel to a foreign land to help her friend in need. Though Ruth would have nothing, she went anyway And as you'll see, the story turns out pretty amazing. In Ruth: Becoming a Girl of Loyalty, a six-week study, you'll enter Ruth's story and learn how you can also become loyal, loving, and godly.True Girl Bible Studies feature important women from the Bible so that from their examples, we can learn what it looks like to be a True Girl. Each study is designed to help moms lead their daughters deeply into the Word of God so that they can develop a steady love for Scripture. Together, moms and daughters can discover what it means to be a True Girl after God's own heart.

James McKeown

In this commentary James McKeown approaches the book of Ruth as part of the canon of Scripture, studying not only the content of the book but also its relationship to other biblical books. McKeown shows in particular how Ruth overflows with allusions to Genesis. The themes of "blessing," "seed," and "land" are common to both books, and studying Genesis and Ruth together provides profound insights. In addition to his exegetical commentary on the text of Ruth, McKeown provides useful background material on how the book has previously been interpreted, and he focuses on Ruth's theology and its application. His discussion also touches on such related topics as universalism, feminist studies, and the missiological significance of the book of Ruth.McKeown's insightful commentary will enable students, pastors, and laypeople to better understand the ancient book of Ruth so that they can better apply its message and wisdom today.

This volume, using multiple methods, seeks to bring together the best scholarship and insight—Jewish and Christian, past and present—that has contributed to our understanding and appreciation of the biblical book of Ruth. As a feminist commentary, it is particularly sensitive to issues of relationship and inclusion, power and agency. In addition to the voices of the primary co-authors, Alice Laffey and Mahri Leonard-Fleckman, the volume incorporates and integrates important contributing voices from diverse contemporary social contexts and geographical locations. In sum, the commentary seeks to allow Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz to speak again for the first time.

Like us, each of these characters in their own way needs the Redeemer who is foreshadowed here. These six studies follow the popular inductive study approach that has marked LifeGuide Bible studies for the past thirty years. For over three decades LifeGuide Bible Studies have provided solid biblical content and raised thought-provoking questions--making for a one-of-a-kind Bible study experience for individuals and groups. Ruth is raised in a snow globe of Christian communism, a world without private property, television, or tolerance for idle questions. Every morning she braids her hair and wears the same costume, sings the same breakfast song in a family room identical to every other family room in the community; every one of these moments is meant to be a prayer, but to Ruth they remain puzzles. Her life is seen in glimpses through childhood, marriage, and motherhood, as she tries to manage her own perilous curiosity in a community built on holy mystery. Is she happy? Might this in fact be happiness? Ruth immerses us in an experience that challenges our most fervent beliefs.

As Ruth ministered to Naomi in the loss of her husband and two sons, Ruth (the book) continues to minister to those who have also suffered the loss of loved ones. These four small chapters look beyond death and into the providence of God who is continually working all things for good, even when our lives are completely shattered. "Ruth" provides hope beyond the grave and unveils a "picture" of Jesus Christ that can only be seen through suffering and death. Without miracle or prophecy, it is at once both miracle and prophecy, standing out as one of the most powerful books of the Bible. This devotional styled commentary will take you from the garden of Eden to the garden of Gethsemane; from the battle of Jericho to the Coming King, and all of it packaged inside the most insignificant places; or so it seems. Best of all, you will "see" Jesus.

The story of Ruth has inspired millions of people worldwide. It is idyllic, riveting, and profoundly mesmerizing. The genius of the Bible writer is just breathtaking. It invites you to consider the unthinkable and will challenge your thinking and sense of morality to the core. For example, How do you judge someone who dresses as a prostitute and deceives her father-in-law to trick him into having a child with him? Where is the moral compass of someone who marries his niece to raise the name of a dead brother? Would you exchange your two daughters to be raped to save two male guests at your house? Do not discount anything because this story contains everything. It will invite you to consider the depth of human depravity and how God has to work through all that to save people. Come with me on the journey of a lifetime
