Ekström paikantaa assosioivalla ajattelullaan psyykeen reunoja, sanojen ja merkitysten kiinnittymistä toisiinsa, ruumiintilojen ja materian jatkuvaa muodonmuutosta. Latinan kielen sana limbus merkitsee unohduksen tilaa. Anatomiassa sillä tarkoitetaan reunusta, kuten aivokuoren reunaa. Katolisessa teologiassa limbus on tarkoittanut kuoleman jälkeistä taivaan ja helvetin välistä onnellisuuden tilaa. Taiteilija toteaa: "Kauneus ja luotaantyöntävyys ovat kuin jatkuvassa liikkeessä olevan heilurin kaksi ääripistettä, jotka hylkivät toisiaan kuin magneetin samannimiset navat.
