This is the first new analysis of J. D. Salinger's short fiction to be published in twenty years and the most in-depth study yet produced. It gives full consideration to all the work published in magazines from 1940 onwards, which were never anthologized; the short stories collected in Nine Stories/For Esme-With Love and Squalor; Franny and Zooey; Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour-An Introduction, and his final publication, 'Hapworth 16, 1924'.J. D. Salinger's Short Fiction questions the conventional view that Salinger was part of the literary counter-culture, proposing instead that he responds to post-war American society with an idealization of the past, especially in terms of childhood, family and the home. Sarah Graham, a recognized Salinger scholar, deals comprehensively with the author's central preoccupations and narrative strategies: his 'wise children' who embody a threatened innocence; war, loss and nostalgia; family relationships; the long-short story form, dialogue, and humour.

From Billy Graham to Sarah Palin provides an iconoclastic new history of the entrance of evangelical Christians into national American politics. Examining the key players of the "Religious Right" -- Billy Graham, Jerry Falwell, Chuck Colson, James Dobson, Pat Robertson, and many others -- D. G. Hart argues that evangelicalism is (and always has been) a bad fit with classic political conservatism. Hart shows how the uneasy alliance of these unlikely political bedfellows has contributed directly to the fragmentation of today's conservative movement. He contends that the ongoing burden of reconciling the progressive moral idealism of religious conservatives with the sober realism of political conservatives increasingly threatens this precarious partnership. Moreover, Hart suggests that evangelicals are unlikely to remain politically conservative in the long term unless they stop looking to big government to solve societal woes at home and abroad and at last embrace classic small-government conservatism for its own sake.

Unknowingly, John's dreams turn to nightmares from suffering with post-traumatic stress from the tragedy days before. John's life now becomes a tormented, twisted quest to choose his previous life and love, or his own sanity. How far would you go? And have you ever been in love? The figure of the artist remains a central subject of investigation for Vancouver artist Rodney Graham (born 1949), who is known for straddling many vocations simultaneously: painter, photographer, writer, philosopher, actor, psychologist, scientist and musician. This new monograph, published for Graham's exhibition at the BALTIC Centre in the UK, gathers works made between 1994 and 2017--in particular his photographic lightboxes and his musical production--that focus on the self-portrait. Graham shows himself starring in various fictional roles (artist, musician, actor, lighthouse keeper, paddler, reader). In her essay, Briony Fer observes that "as much as Graham makes pictures that cohere as mise-en-sc nes, and that operate self-reflexively to speculate on the very mechanics of the image, so it is impossible to keep all the allusions in check."
Redefining curatorial practice for those working with new kinds of art.As curator Steve Dietz has observed, new media art is like contemporary art-but different. New media art involves interactivity, networks, and computation and is often about process rather than objects. New media artworks are difficult to classify according to the traditional art museum categories determined by medium, geography, and chronology and present the curator with novel challenges involving interpretation, exhibition, and dissemination. This book views these challenges as opportunities to rethink curatorial practice. It helps curators of new media art develop a set of flexible tools for working in this fast-moving field, and it offers useful lessons from curators and artists for those working in such other areas of art as distributive and participatory systems. The authors, both of whom have extensive experience as curators, offer numerous examples of artworks and exhibitions to illustrate how the roles of curators and audiences can be redefined in light of new media art's characteristics. Rethinking Curating offers curators a route through the hype around platforms and autonomous zones by following the lead of current artists' practice.

"Eclectic" is often used in association with the Victorian era, from which the majority of the objects featured in this book originate. They range from ceramics, glass, and furniture, to silver, wood carving, and paintings of both secular and religious subjects. The authors provide thorough documentation for the artifacts chosen as well as essays outlining the context in which each object was made. The variety of styles and materials in the collection reflects popular trends of the era and creates a vivid picture of bourgeois life in Montreal during the nineteenth century.
