Stella, the first Haitian novel, combines descriptions of moving scenes with factual accounts of the 13 years of the Haitian revolution (1791-1804). Stella is an epic saga and chapter headings refer to major events in Haiti's history and the major historical figures are present - Toussaint. Petion, Christophe, Sonthonax, Leclerc - among many others. The allegorical figures are mainly episodic and are meant to hold the plot together. It is also an important document of Caribbean history and fictionalised history.Written while the author was exiled to St. Thomas, due to his alleged participation in an attempt to assassinate the black emperor Faustin I (Soulouque), the work can be read as the first foundational novel of Haiti. It is a mythical retelling of the establishment of the Haitian nation. This narrative presents not only the birth, through revolution, of Haiti as an independent nation but also the strife between political factions in Bergeaud’s contemporary Haiti, including that between blacks and mulattoes in the struggle to control Haiti. Stella vividly introduces readers to the tale of revolt and revolution that eventually led to the creation of a free black nation.

In 1942, Friedrich, an even-keeled but unworldly young man, arrives in Berlin from bucolic Switzerland with dreams of becoming an artist. At a life drawing class, he is hypnotized by the beautiful model, Kristin, who soon becomes his energetic yet enigmatic guide to the bustling and cosmopolitan city, escorting him to underground jazz clubs where they drink cognac, dance and kiss. The war feels far away to Friedrich, who falls in love with Kristin as they spend time together in his rooms at the Grand Hotel, but as the months pass, the mood in the city darkens as the Nazis tighten their hold on Berlin, terrorizing any who are deemed foes of the Reich. One day, Kristin comes back to Friedrich's rooms in tears, battered and bruised. She tells him that her real name is Stella, and that she is Jewish, passing for Aryan. More disturbing still, she has troubling connections with the Gestapo that Friedrich does not fully understand. As Friedrich confronts Stella's unimaginable choices, he finds himself woefully unprepared for the history he is living through. Based in part on a real historical character, Stella sets a tortured love story against the backdrop of wartime Berlin, and powerfully explores questions of naiveté, young love, betrayal, and the horrors of history.

SHERIFF LANGE SUCCUMBS TO WOUNDS INFLICTED BY THUG shouts the headline of the January 2,1930 Lawrenceburg Register. The article paints a somber portrait of what happened to my Grandfather. "Sheriff Herman Lange was shot and fatally wounded by a desperado on the Harrison and Brookville road near Braysville about 5:30 Monday morning. The shooting followed trouble at camps along the Whitewater River." To complete Grandfather's term of office, Grandmother Mayme Lange was appointed Sheriff of Dearborn County. She was the first woman in the State of Indiana to hold this office. Posses, special bailiffs, grand jury indictments, multi-state manhunt, capture of the accused, interrogations by nationally famous detective, alleged forced confession, change of venue, trial, jury deliberation, guilty verdict, death sentence, appeals, Indiana Supreme Court rulings follow. This heavy burden weighs upon a mourning daughter. The grieving, fifteen-year-old Stella buries the painful memories of her dead Father.

Olivia tried to read 'Stella'. When she opened the first page, she could find a beautiful picture by Amelia Backer. That picture was interesting. It had a pink tree and pink grass. Have you ever heard of a pink tree? That pink color was special. In that picture, the wind was blowing from east to west, that pink was glittering and shining. While, when the wind blew from west to east, the pink turned dark.

"So, Stella. What would you like for Christmas?""I would like for all of you to die," Stella said in her sweetest and most prim and proper voice, "starting with ... her." Although Stella's Revenge is about a child - it is in no form a children's book. Stella's family life changed without her permission or satisfaction. Consequently, she is forced to grow up FAST. The physical and psychological upheavals create emotional demons that catapult her into a world she did not seek or anticipate. Like most of us, Stella knows right from wrong, but also, like most of us, her intrusive thoughts take over and dictate her every move. Leaving behind a world of rainbows and butterflies, Stella ventures into the dark side where hardcore truth meets vengeance. And no matter what she wants, people and pets are going to have to pay.Patricia Brothers was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. She is a mother of two. She is currently working on her degree in Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in Psychology. In her high school days, writing and acting were some of her favorite past times.
