An exploration of the captivating works of Carla Arocha and Stéphane Schraenen, which reference both popular culture and Minimalism This lavishly illustrated monograph offers a comprehensive study of Arocha and Schraenen’s individual works and collaborative practice since 2006. It explores their captivating works, which reference popular culture and Minimalism, and their exploration of perception and cultural themes through large-scale installations, paintings, and the photographic medium. Featuring historical and new photography of works and installations produced between 1990 and 2023, the publication delves into over 500 artworks, alongside cultural references, sketches, and archival ephemera. The book, edited by Barbara Vanderlinden, includes essays from such renowned art critics and curators as Mónica Amor, Marc Donnadieu, and Philippe Pirotte, and reprinted interviews with Arocha and Schraenen by Helen Molesworth and Hans-Ulrich Obrist. A detailed illustrated chronology, exhibition history, bibliography, and index round out this comprehensive volume. Designed by Irma Boom, the book goes beyond a traditional monograph by “reimagining the format” to mirror the artists’ collaborative spirit. It emphasizes how Arocha and Schraenen’s work utilizes mirrors to disrupt viewers’ perceptions of reality.
In this highly original and provocative study, Bersani takes us away from the interpretative questions which the competing critics of Mallarmé familiarly raise, and explores a fundamental paradox within his work as a whole. On the one hand Mallarmé can be taken as a prime example of textual imperialism in modern literature: his hermetic poems seem to demand ever more interpretative ingenuity from his readers and to provide a foretaste of the supreme Book which he dreamed of - 'the Orphic explanation of the Earth'. On the other hand he mounted an extraordinary assault on literature's claims to importance. He went so far as to propose a view of literature as an essentially wordless fiction incapable both of communicating the nature of reality and of producing knowledge of reality. He comes to be engaged in the somewhat eerie strategy of celebrating literature as a way of burying it. He does not, however, give up writing; in fact, he begins what Leo Bersani considers to be his revolutionary subversion of literature at the very moment when he becomes a man of letters. In tracing this paradox, Bersani brings fresh insights to much of Mallarmé's work and suggests a unique way of understanding Mallarmé's place in modern literature.

French architect Stephane Fernandez creates a 'silent architecture' that invests the landscape as much as it takes shape. He is a minimalist in expression and maximalist in attention to detail. He models rough, thick and fragile monoliths by digging, by movement of bodies and the generation of tensions between masses. Fernandez articulates his work around a permanent search for materials, the accumulation of models, sketches, plans and words. This first monograph on Stephane Fernandez features five of his realised designs that are emblematic for his approach: a childrens' pavillion (Saint-Raphael, 2005), a media library (Carnoux, 2007), a students' residence and laboratory building (Banyuls-sur-Mer, 2013), a cultural centre (Vertou, 2015) and a primary school (Cannes, 2018). An essay and a conversation with Stéphane Fenrandez by architectural historian Éléonore Marantz as well as a manifesto by the architect himself complement plans of the buildings and photographs of the five buildings by Berlin-based photographers Schnepp Renou. Cette etude part du principe que la poesie de Mallarme a pour but philosophique l'expression d'une theorie sur l'origine du sens. Analysant ses poemes en prose, Heriodade et Un coup de des, l'auteur decouvre une crise au sein de l'ecriture de Mallarme, qui met en question et l'authenticite du sujet-lecteur, et la preeminence de son discours logique.
