Assesses the risks facing U.S. commercial remote sensing satellite firms and explores the U.S. policy and regulatory environment for these firms. American firms have begun to operate their own imaging satellite systems, aiming to become an important part of the U.S. commercial remote sensing industry. To succeed over the long run, these new U.S. commercial remote sensing satellite firms need a combination of reliable technologies, government policies that encourage U.S. industry competitiveness, a strong international presence, and sound business plans to ensure their competitiveness in both the domestic and international marketplaces. The greatest risks for the these firms come from the challenge of transforming themselves from imagery data providers to strong competitors as information age companies; the need to master the technical risks of building and operating sophisticated imaging satellite systems; and the requirement to operate effectively in a complex international business environment. In addition, the government's policymaking process has yet to achieve the degree of predictability, timeliness, and transparency that the firms need if they are expected to operate effectively in a highly competitive and rapidly changing global marketplace. The authors conclude with six recommendations that the U.S. Department of Commerce should adopt to best fulfill its responsibilities for promoting the U.S. commercial remote sensing industry and for encouraging the competitiveness of new private imaging satellite firms. Dr. David Stevens' new book, Falling Back in Love is ideal for any couple-whether married, engaged, or dating for any considerable time. Unlike other authors who may write about relationships, Stevens has lived and breathed this subject-helping couples for 40+ years but more importantly, has been in a loving and caring relationship for over 50. Stevens' book is not only filled with sound advice, but with examples of what it means to be in a committed relationship. As the good doctor would say. . . "Forget about trying to have a perfect marriage and strive to be perfectly married. "What does this mean? After you read, Falling Back in Love you'll understand, but more importantly, you'll be able to incorporate more love into your relationships. Sheilah Brooks, Writer I felt that with the divorce rate being at 50%, this book could save couples tons of money if they want to salvage a relationship. We live in such callous times when love and commitment seem almost nonexistent." Martha Tucker
FALLING BACK IN LOVE AGAIN must be based on trust. It is the key component to bringing relationship, and joy back into a struggling marriage or courtship. It lays out marital bliss accompanied by honest observation of both partners' needs and nuances; pointing out how each can find agreement. Dr. Stevens does not sugarcoat the issues he believes can save a marriage. Instead, he encourages couples to take the option of compromise. FALLING BACK IN LOVE AGAIN instructs the couple to recall those precious memories of how love began, mentally recapturing the bliss and pleasures of the past. He often shares Bible passages that fit and clarify the way of FALLING BACK IN LOVE AGAIN. He instructs that the best way to keep love alive is to feed it Anything allowed to starve will die. Think of fire in an outdoor grill. As long as you keep adding charcoal briquettes, it will probably keep on cooking. If the fire is allowed to go completely out, then the only remedy is to start over. If your love has gone cold, do not delay - read these solid, easy and helpful strategies, and don't waste another moment wondering if it's the right thing to do. Regain your partner for years to come.
What do Sherlock Holmes, Star Wars, A Christmas Carol, and Charlotte's Web have in common? Seven identical and profound themes. Actually we only use these four stories as examples of seven inescapable themes, found in whole or in part in every story of every medium from books to movies. I believe these themes are inescapable, not because our culture imposes them upon creators, but because they reflect our deepest longings. As I suggested earlier, even in our current climate of deconstruction, any story which truly denies all these themes at once does so only with the clear intention of ignoring these very themes, thus providing greater support for the inherent expectation for and love of these concepts in us. We would really like to believe this is real: this longing for meaning, for plot and design and divine appointment, for redemption, for justice. I have come to believe the good news that our desire for meaning arises from the truth that there is meaning. There is a story behind the universe which makes it all makes sense.Every story we write, draw, compose, or perform is a seeking after that one true story of the universe. This is why the themes continue to pop up in story after story.
In Wallace Stevens among Others, David Jarraway explores the extraordinary achievement of Wallace Stevens, but in contexts that are not usually thought about in connection with Stevens's work - gay literature, contemporary fiction, Hollywood film, and avant-garde architecture, among others. By viewing the poet among these "other" contexts, Jarraway considers the nature of self-reflection and pays special attention to the discrediting of self-presence as the principle of identity in American writing - a theme that reflects American authors' abiding concern for subjectivities that engage the world from spaces of distance and difference. By returning to the work of Stevens, Jarraway seeks to refurbish this preoccupation by linking it to the literary theory of French philosopher Gilles Deleuze, whose work applies to American writers from Melville and Whitman to Fitzgerald and Cummings. Jarraway forges the link between Deleuze and Stevens by drawing out the female subjectivity found in each writer's work to rethink the more static masculinist premises of being. Informed by a deep knowledge of and fluency with the work of Stevens and Deleuze, Jarraway uses these writers as a means of entry into American literature and culture, Wallace Stevens among Others is a sophisticated analysis that will open new directions for future scholarship.
In The Seven Deadly Sins and Other Poems, veteran poet David R. Slavitt touches on topics from the mundane to the mysterious with his signature wit and intelligence. In Stupid, for instance, he transforms a simple head cold into an appreciation for the richness of consciousness, and in Waking, the very effort of rising from bed becomes something like a miracle: ""I heave myself up to a sitting position, pause / a moment, and am amazed by what I have done...."" Slavitt explores the range of the human condition with such ease and insight that readers cannot help but ponder what life is -- and what it could be. What if -- like the mythic sea creature in ""The Dogfish"" -- humans could return to the womb when frightened? In the collection's title poem, Slavitt gives a voice to the Seven Deadly Sins, each of which claims, persuasively, to possess a value to humans that is seldom noticed or appreciated. Slavitt has a unique ability to examine an idea -- be it virtue or vice, dark or blithe -- and offer perspective and wisdom about the conundrums of our existence.
