How are great turning points in history experienced by individuals? As Britain pulls away from Europe great British writers come together to give voice to their innermost feelings. These writers include novelists, writers of books for children, of comic books, humourists, historians, biographers, nature writers, film writers, travel writers, writers young and old and from an extraordinary range of backgrounds. Most are famous perhaps because they have won the Booker or other literary prizes, written bestsellers, changed the face of popular culture or sold millions of records. Others are not yet household names but write with depth of insight and feeling. There is some extraordinary writing in this book. Some of these pieces are expressions of love of particular places in Europe. Some are true stories, some nostalgic, some hopeful. Some are cries of pain. There are hilarious pieces. There are cries of pain and regret. Some pieces are quietly devastating. All are passionate.Conceived as a love letter to Europe, this book may also help reawaken love for Britain. It shows the unique richness and diversity of British cultures, a multitude of voices in harmony.Contributors include:Hugh Aldersey-Williams, Philip Ardagh, Jake Arnott, Patricia Atkinson, Paul Atterbury, Richard Beard, Mary Beard, Don Boyd, Melvyn Bragg, Gyles Brandreth, Kathleen Burke, James Buxton, Philip Carr, Brian Catling, Shami Chakrabarti, Chris Cleave, Mark Cocker, Peter Conradi , Heather Cooper, Frank Cottrell-Boyce, Roger Crowley, David Crystal, William Dalrymple, Lindsey Davies, Margaret Drabble, Mark Ellen, Richard Evans, Michel Faber, Sebastian Faulks, Ranulph Fiennes, Robert Fox, James Fox, Neil Gaiman, Evelyn Glennie, James Hanning, Nick Hayes, Alan Hollinghurst, Gabby Hutchinson-Crouch, Will Hutton, Robert Irwin, Holly Johnson , Liane Jones, Ruth Jones, Sam Jordison, Kapka Kassabova, AL Kennedy, Hermione Lee, Prue Leith, Patrick Lenox, Roger Lewis, David Lindo, Penelope Lively, Beth Lync, Richard Mabey, Sue MacGregor, Ian Martin, Frank McDonough, Jonathan Meades, Andrew Miller, Deborah Moggach, Ben Moor, Alan Moore, Paul Morley, Jackie Morris, Charles Nicholl, Richard Overy, Chris Riddell, Adam Roberts, Tony Robinson, Lee Rourke, Sophie Sabbage, Marcus Sedgwick, Richard Shirreff, Paul Stanford, Isy Suttie, Sandi Toksvig, Colin Tudge, Ed Vulliamy, Anna Whitelock, Kate Williams, Michael Wood, Louisa Young

The Discipling Church is a practical application "disciple-making" guide that defines and clarifies how every Christian can become a true disciple of Jesus Christ. This text was prepared primarily for church leaders, but has been written in such a way so that it may "equip" every Christian and every Christ seeker."Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ" (Dietrich Bonhoeffer). The Lord Jesus Christ is the very cornerstone of our faith. From the truth found in God's Word, we have purposefully embedded within the pages of this book the essential elements necessary to carry on the Great Commission of Jesus Christ - namely, to "Make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19, NIV)? We believe in the fact that the world and everything in it has been made by Him, for Him, through Him, and in Him. We take His words, His teachings, His attitudes and His commands as being that of the one true God of the universe - with nothing missing and nothing broken. Evangelism is that work of bringing people face to face with their need for and experiencing a new birth experience in Christ. Salvation, in its most narrow understanding, is a moment-in-time experience by a person of the new birth or conversion to Jesus Christ. At this point in time, the believer receives new life and is "born again" and experiences what the Bible calls, redemption, reconciliation, and justification. God immediately and suddenly brings transformation into his or her life. However, the reality of discipleship is the growth of that new life which comes after the moment of salvation. Discipleship is a lifelong process of applying the gospel and the truth of the Word of God into the believer's life, with the ultimate objective of becoming and being Christ-like every day. As you make your way through the Table of Contents, you will quickly discover that "The Discipling Church" is divided into two practical primary sections.Section One: A practical panoramic overview relative to the fundamental precepts of what discipleship is combined with why and how we, as Christians, must go and make disciples. This section was researched, developed, and written for those who are in church leadership, those who are the church (the Body of Christ), and those who are still Christ seekers.Section Two: An inspired collection of useful and timely discipleship tools, resources, and solutions.Upon reaching the completion of this book you will be equipped and have the necessary essentials to go forward with Jesus' Great Commission: to make disciples. All misconceptions, confusions, rationalizations, and objections will have been addressed leaving you, the reader and learner, with one all-important, eternal question: Will you obey? Prayerfully consider your answer for it has eternal ramifications.

Refugee Nuns, the French Revolution, and British Literature and Culture
In eighteenth-century literature, negative representations of Catholic nuns and convents were pervasive. Yet, during the politico-religious crises initiated by the French Revolution, a striking literary shift took place as British writers championed the cause of nuns, lauded their socially relevant work, and addressed the attraction of the convent for British women. Interactions with Catholic religious, including priests and nuns, Tonya J Moutray argues, motivated writers, including Hester Thrale Piozzi, Helen Maria Williams, and Charlotte Smith, to revaluate the historical and contemporary utility of religious refugees. Beyond an analysis of literary texts, Moutray's study also examines nuns’ personal and collective narratives, as well as news coverage of their arrival to England, enabling a nuanced investigation of a range of issues, including nuns' displacement and imprisonment in France, their rhetorical and practical strategies to resist authorities, representations of refugee migration to and resettlement in England, relationships with benefactors and locals, and the legal status of "English" nuns and convents in England, including their work in recruitment and education. Moutray shows how writers and the media negotiated the multivalent figure of the nun during the 1790s, shaping British perceptions of nuns and convents during a time critical to their survival.

The Body of Christ is comprised of people that believe God sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins, and was raised from the dead. Once you accept Jesus as Lord and savior God has designed a blueprint for His body of believer's to behave. Being a part of God's family, He wants us to be on one accord, and to operate as a family unit. Imagine the millions of people that have accepted Christ as Lord - collectively each member of God's body is a cell with a distinct purpose. Of course the head of this body is the Lord Jesus Christ, and He is leading this massive amount of people to follow the will of God, our Father. How does the family of God operate in the earth? Are we all one-man on one-accord? Can we realize the potential of the Lord Jesus to become a church without spot or wrinkle? In this book, we'll examine how faith, hope, and love are supposed to be at the forefront of the Christian experience. Also, we will explore how tale bearing, a lack of prayer and false truths keep the body disjointed and non-unified. One of God's greatest desire is for His children is found in Ephesians 4:13, "...Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: " Without question we can all get to this place by walking in love with one another if we understand the will of God.

The wide sandy beaches, quiet maritime forests, and vast Spartina marshes of the natural Georgia coast create a most spectacular, albeit gentle, Southern beauty. Casual visitors and longtime residents alike have been charmed by this special place. Living with the Georgia Shore provides an essential reference and guide for residents, visitors, developers, planners, and all who are concerned with the conditions and future of Georgia's coastal zone.Recounting the human and natural history of the islands, the authors look in particular at the phenomenon of coastal erosion and the implications of various responses to this process. In Georgia, as elsewhere in the United States, the future of the shore is in doubt as recreational and residential development demands increase. This book provides guidelines for living with the shore, as opposed to simply living on it. The former requires planning and a wise choice of property or house site. The latter ignores the potential hazards unique to coastal life and may make inadequate allowance for the dramatic changes that can occur on any sandy ocean shore. Living with the Georgia Shore includes an introduction to each of the Georgia isles, an overview of federal and state coastal land-use regulations, pointers on buying and building at the shore, a hurricane preparation checklist, a history of recent hurricanes in Georgia, an extensive annotated bibliography, and a guide to government agencies and private groups involved in issues of coastal development.
