Hales Handful... Up from the Ashes: The Forgoing of the Seventh Air Force from the Ashes of Pearl Harbor to the Triumph of V-J Day
This study analyzes the evolution of Seventh Air Force's joint command and control relationships as well as the development of joint operational procedures and doctrine in the Central Pacific during World War II. As this was arguably the most "joint" theater in World War II, there are many lessons about the challenges of joint command and control and the development of joint combat procedures that are relevant to contemporary airmen. The Seventh Air Force was established in the aftermath of the attack on Pearl Harbor. It was initially a defensive and training oriented command-protecting Hawaii from a possible attack by the Japanese and training replacement crews for units in the South Pacific. However, in the summer of 1943, the Seventh Air Force became an offensive, mobile combat command that, along with each of the other services, played a major role in the island-hopping campaign of World War II. Major General Willis H. Hale served as the commander of the Seventh Air Force during this transition period. This study uses him as a lens to explore the unique challenges his command met and overcame. Additionally, since the Pacific Theater was on the tail end of the "Europe First" resupply policy, the Seventh Air Force was chronically under-manned and underequipped- hence the moniker "Hale's Handful."This study asks three questions in examining the development of joint command and control and operational procedures in the Central Pacific. The first question is to what extent did personalities drive the evolution of command and control relationships, and did they have an affect on the effectiveness of combat operations? This question takes on significance as this work explores General Hale's rather stormy relationship with his naval superior, Vice Admiral John H. Hoover. Along similar lines, the second question is to what extent did service cultures affect command and control and the development of joint doctrine. Finally, this thesis asks to what extent did this theater's unique geographic challenges affect interservice friction and the effectiveness of combat operations? This thesis concludes that all three issues influenced the development of, and effectiveness of, joint command and control and combat procedures in the Central Pacific, though not always in negative ways. On the one hand, service culture tended to aggravate an already stormy interpersonal relationship between General Hale and Admiral Hoover. On the other hand, the severity of the unique challenges in the Central Pacific tended to ameliorate personality conflicts and service parochialism as the services learned that only through teamwork could the challenges be overcome.Despite harsh lessons and early setbacks such as the costly victory at Tarawa, by the end of the war the three services' air forces developed a level of interoperability and shared doctrine that we do not have today. Additionally, this study found that interdiction and CAS were every bit as important as strategic bombing to the success of the island-hopping campaign. While the Central Pacific in World War II is not the only time US forces have had to relearn the importance of CAS, this example stands as a model of inter-service airpower that can be useful to airmen today.

VjKelly NEW YORK TIMES / KEVIN ANDERSON Editor's Notes Client Name: Vincent Kelly Manuscript Title: Northern Oz Editor: JB / KEVIN ANDERSON & ASSOCIATES New York Times Bestselling Ghostwriters and Editors You've created an absolutely delightful and ingenious story, which draws on the numerous OZ books by L. F. Baum, and I was completely transfixed from the opening pages of the narrative. It's been a long time since I've read a novel that instantly transports the reader not only to a faraway land, but back to childhood as well, and there is something very comforting about that feeling, which stayed with me long after I read the final pages of your book. The story itself features strong cinematic elements, which is not an easy thing to accomplish in a market that is oversaturated with such tropes I particularly love the detail and care you've put into imagining and describing this complex world, and the characters that inhabit it. Kristi and her makeshift OZ family are loveable, relatable, and finely drawn, and in Kristi herself, you've created an interesting heroine that draws on the legend of Dorothy and takes it to the next level. I adore the world that these characters inhabit What a fresh and ingenious plotline, which, as I mentioned above, is indebted to the OZ series of books, without ever being derivative or clumsy. As a reader, I was totally drawn into their struggles as they maneuver the obstacles and wonders alike in their path in order to find the Wizard, and I loved the family dynamic you've created between Kristi, Obo, and the rest of the characters they meet along the way, which is extremely believable What a fresh and ingenious plotline, which, as I mentioned above, is indebted to the OZ series of books, without ever being derivative or clumsy. As a reader, I was totally drawn into their struggles as they maneuver the obstacles and wonders alike in their path in order to find the Wizard, and I loved the family dynamic you've created between Kristi, Obo, and the rest of the characters. You do an incredible job in detailing the surroundings of this world-I could literally picture everything you were describing as I read along, and you have a real talent for world building and descriptive settings. You've managed to create an entire world in only one volume of work, and that is something you should be very, very proud of. It's been a long time since I've read a novel this good, and I'm hungry for book two Bravo

KEY TO YOURSELF Opening the Door to a Joyful Life From Within The beauty of KEY TO YOURSELF is seen through Venice Bloodworth's insightful approach in how she combines contemporary psychology with the very same principles taught thousands of years ago by Jesus of Nazareth. In searching for her own spiritual enlightenment, she found the root of true happiness based on a "Spiritual Psychology" that unlocked the power of the mind to THINK herself to wellness, prosperity, and peace of mind. Although the world has changed drastically over time, people are still confronted with the same fears and inner conflicts and KEY TO YOURSELF meets these challenges with an ageless wisdom that endures for generations.
