Making Officers out of Gentlemen
Making Officers out of Gentlemen aims to study the emergence and evolution of the military training and feeder institutions, beginning in the early twentieth century, which were central to the project of Indianization-a key political and nationalist process aimed at opening up of the officer ranks to Indians in the Indian Army. This volume examines a broad network of institutions, starting from the early preparatory schools in the northwest that sprang up from the 1890s to the post-Independence national institutions like the National Defence Academy (NDA). The author argues for a more sustained discussion on the policy implications of this large transformation of India's institutional landscape, where Indianization turned the spotlight on issues of the Indian officers to their evolving occupational profile, the relevance of educational policy in military decision-making, and their larger systemic relationship with the colonial and postcolonial State. The book also addresses military training institutions broadening the scope of military Indianization policies in order to include substantive themes of administration, student and officer training, and other institutional challenges.

Sickle cell disease is a complex disease with a genetic mutation producing a wide variety of manifestations. It is of great public health importance nationally and internationally. While the conclusions of this study support the generally accepted views on the disease, the book provides the most recent information and state-of-the-art knowledge on the subject. The book is unique in that it presents the genetic, molecular, cellular, metabolic, rheologic, clinical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and psychosocial dimensions of sickle cell disease. Its synthesis of micro to macro, molecular to cellular, individual to social relationships provides a comprehensive study of sickle cell disease. The book offers a synthesis of basic science describing genetic, molecular, metabolic, and rheologic aspects of sickle cell disease. Clinical aspects, including diagnosis and treatment, and psychosocial aspects, covering the interaction of the patient with sickle cell disease with society, are also treated. Physicians, scientists, allied health workers, sociologists, and social workers, epidemiologists and anthropologists as well as administrators of sickle cell centers will find this volume useful. The ultimate goal of the book is to improve the understanding of sickle cell disease and to contribute to a better quality of life for those who have the disease or who are at risk of getting it.

Information intermediation is the foundation stone of some of the most successful Internet companies, and is perhaps second only to the Internet Infrastructure companies. On the heels of information integration and interoperability, this book on information brokering discusses the next step in information interoperability and integration. The emerging Internet economy based on burgeoning B2B and B2C trading will soon demand semantics-based information intermediation for its feasibility and success. B2B ventures are involved in the `rationalization' of new vertical markets and construction of domain specific product catalogs. This book provides approaches for re-use of existing vocabularies and domain ontologies as a basis for this rationalization and provides a framework based on inter-ontology interoperation. Infrastructural trade-offs that identify optimizations in performance and scalability of web sites will soon give way to information based trade-offs as alternate rationalization schemes come into play and the necessity of interoperating across these schemes is realized. Information Brokering Across Heterogeneous Digital Data's intended readers are researchers, software architects and CTOs, advanced product developers dealing with information intermediation issues in the context of e-commerce (B2B and B2C), information technology professionals in various vertical markets (e.g., geo-spatial information, medicine, auto), and all librarians interested in information brokering.

Automotive Radar Sensors in Silicon Technologies

Automotive Radar Sensors in Silicon Technologies

One of the leading causes of automobile accidents is the slow reaction of the driver while responding to a hazardous situation. State-of-the-art wireless electronics can automate several driving functions, leading to significant reduction in human error and improvement in vehicle safety. With continuous transistor scaling, silicon fabrication technology now has the potential to substantially reduce the cost of automotive radar sensors. This book bridges an existing gap between information available on dependable system/architecture design and circuit design. It provides the background of the field and detailed description of recent research and development of silicon-based radar sensors. System-level requirements and circuit topologies for radar transceivers are described in detail. Holistic approaches towards designing radar sensors are validated with several examples of highly-integrated radar ICs in silicon technologies. Circuit techniques to design millimeter-wave circuits in silicon technologies are discussed in depth.

"Aum Beep Beep" is a heartfelt cry of rage from within the citadel of caste privilege. This highly irreverent, controversial and hilarious book, written in the form of an impassioned letter from a father to a son, charts the journey of a believer from belief to disillusionment to outrage as he begins to read and understand the cloak of violence that shrouds the much lauded scriptures of Hinduism. The author, a practising solicitor, writes from deep personal experience, having grown up in an upper-caste milieu where caste privilege was seen as the fount of moral superiority. He dismantles the scriptural writings in ways that are simultaneously poignant and shocking. The writing style is accessible, funny and thought-provoking. This book is unique, for while both radical Islam and fundamentalist Christianity have received many adverse commentaries, Hinduism has largely been seen to be "tolerant" and "peaceful". This book is a refreshing antidote to those pervasive accolades and elucidates the tropes that justify immoral and unethical stands. It is a clarion call to the son to divest himself of age-old belief and privilege and walk out into the sun of freedom, where "belonging" is not a matter of tradition, community or nationality. A must read for anyone who wishes to know what is really written in the scriptures of Hinduism.

Ajax is a web development technique that takes advantage of JavaScript to display and interact dynamically with information embedded into a web page. Its emergence has made it possible to create web applications that closely resemble their desktop–based brethren. With this exciting new ability came several challenges; not only did developers have to learn JavaScript, but they were also forced to use inefficient development processes, not to mention deal with cross–platform and browser difficulties. But with the release of Google Web Toolkit (GWT), Java developers are able to continue using their favorite language to write powerful Ajax applications while using not only the Java language, but also the very same development tools they're already using on a daily basis! Serious Java developers wanting to write Ajax applications using GWT can expect a fast–paced, yet thorough, introduction to GWT from Java expert Vipul Gupta. You'll gain key insights into the GWT framework's capabilities and can rely on clear instruction that will show you how to incorporate GWT into your daily development routine in the most effective way. Accelerated GWT introduces you to the popular GWT framework in a way that will allow you to begin using GWT in short order. Forgoing superfluous introductions to JavaScript and Ajax, you'll instead be immersed in GWT fundamentals from the very first chapter. Subsequent chapters discuss key GWT concepts such as architecture, widgets, and RPC. Understanding you'll want to efficiently integrate GWT into your development workflow, the author also devotes time to sound GWT application design, testing, and internationalization issues.

Economics Made Simple is the best guide for economics. This book has been written for the purpose of making the life of teachers, professors and student easier. On one hand this book can be used as an handbook for teachers, on the other hand it can be used as a preparatory notes and cover entire topics of economics in nutshell. This book is written by Vipul Baibhav who is a research scholar and Suhail Haque who is subject matter expert. Both of them have put their hard efforts in producing this exemplary and extra ordinary book in the field of Economics. We can consider this book as a bible or Encyclopedia of economics as this book consist of all relevant yet important topics of economics. Using this book we want to show that Economics is not just a subject that should be used as a courseware in academics but we should be aware of what is happening in our country. In this way we can contribute to improve economy in better and efficient ways. Economics is not all about money making or profit business. It is about how efficiently we can manage the resources and utilize our true potential to increase our productivity. Greater the productivity more is the supply thereby making it easier to match the demand in the market.
