The legal system is awash with excessive and incomprehensible information. Yet many of us assume that the unrelenting torrent of information pouring into various legal programs is both inevitable and unstoppable. We have become complacent; but it does not have to be this way. Incomprehensible! argues that surrendering to incomprehensibility is a bad mistake. Drawing together evidence from diverse fields such as consumer protection, financial regulation, patents, chemical control, and administrative and legislative processes, this book identifies a number of important legal programs that are built on the foundational assumption that 'more information is better'. Each of these legal processes have been designed in ways that ignore the imperative of meaningful communication. To rectify this systemic problem, the law must be re-designed to pay careful attention to the problem of incomprehensibility.

Spanning more than half a century, Russell Hoban's celebrated literary career won him critical accolades and legions of admirers across multiple genres. Many know him from the groundbreaking masterpiece Riddley Walker, with its twelve-year-old protagonist contemplating "what the idear of us myt be" from amidst the ruins of civilization. Some know Hoban from the genre-defying The Mouse and His Child, or from idiosyncratic novels of floundering Londoners struggling with writer's block or whether to steal turtles from the Zoo, hallucinating Death as a chimpanzee, or a grapefruit as the head of Orpheus. Still others fondly recall Frances the Badger's refusal to go to bed, or share Emmet Otter with their own children at Christmas. This book, the first consideration of Russell Hoban's literary career as a whole, explores what binds these seemingly disparate works together. Discovering unexpected patterns between books written from out of what one character describes as a perpetual "state of surprise," this critical study also draws on Hoban's biography, from his formation as an artist under the influence of jazz in New York to the upheaval of his self-reinvention as a writer, as it offers its own reflection on what the idea of Russell Hoban might be.

The purpose of this book is to provide the outline for the "nuts and bolts" establishment and operation of a nuclear cardiology laboratory. In so doing, the authors have attempted to deal with the relevant issues that a laboratory director must address in either setting up the laboratory or maintaining its competitive edge and clinical competence over time. The authors primarily attempted to identify issues related to outpatient imaging facilities. However, where appropriate issues related to inpatients in hospital-based laboratories are also discussed. In this new edition, the authors have kept the basic format established in the first edition. In addition to reviewing, modifying and updating each chapter in the first edition, they have added entirely new chapters on PET imaging, hybrid imaging and the clinical appropriateness of nuclear cardiology procedures.

The outrageously funny and painfully relatable satire of an aspiring artist and millennial culture. Walter Scott s Wendy comics have become a critical sensation, with rave reviews in The New Yorker and the Guardian, and an appearance in the Best American Comics anthology. Learn Wendy s origin story as Scott hilariously plumbs millennial culture, creative ennui, and the nepotism of the art world s institutions. Wendy s an aspiring artist in a party city, and she s in a rut. She spends her time snorting MDMA in gallery bathrooms and watching Nurse Jackie reruns on her laptop while hungover. So when she s accepted into the prestigious Flojo Island residency, Wendy vows to buckle down and get working. But during the remote, woodsy residency, Wendy and her collaborator/BFF Winona put on a performance piece that becomes the centre of an art world controversy, and so Wendy returns to Montreal, getting a job in a coffee shop to make ends meet. With Wendy, Scott launches the Wendyverse, brimming with painfully relatable characters like the back-stabbing frenemyTina, the name-dropping Paloma, the cool drummer Wendy obsesses over, Jeff, and of course, our treasured Wendy, the hot mess we can t live without. In blunt, laughout-loud funny vignettes with perfect punchlines, Scott illuminates the opacity of artspeak and the ceaseless anxieties plaguing a largely privileged generation.
