Adventures are always unexpected; it's in their nature to be so. But when Wynona is forced to leave her bustling, successful life in order to return to the dismal hometown she thought she'd left behind for good, she is confident that the last thing she's embarking on is an adventure. How could visiting her dying sister Beth and facing her dreadful past be anything but a miserable tragedy? Meanwhile, the local sheriff discovers the dead body of an exotic animal keeper near an empty, open cage labeled with the haunting sign: "DRAGON BEWARE." As word gets out about the escaped beast, a group of live-action role players, including Wynona's ex-boyfriend Brandon, decide that finding the dragon could be the boost they need to get more game cred. At first, Wynona sees this as just another example of how lame Brandon is, but Beth urges her to look at their quest as a beautiful belief in the unknown. Confronting one surreal situation after another, Wynona is pushed beyond the breaking point when she encounters a supernatural experience that defies human explanation and leads her to entertain the possibility of a loving God capable of miracles.

The mysteries of a remote estate lead a young woman down a twisted path in this gripping gothic thriller from the Edgar Award-winning author of Or Else. After a car accident took the lives of both her parents, Mira Caine's transition to adulthood was hard and fast. As Mira settles in and befriends her troubled charge, she quickly learns her new home is full of questions that no one wants to answer. What caused Allison's father to murder his wife and almost kill his daughter? How is the tragedy connected to the arcane writings Mira stumbles across? And why do parts of the island feel strangely familiar to her?As more of the sprawling manor's secrets are revealed through Allison's damaged psyche, Mira's sense of time and self begin to erode. Before long she will come face-to-face with the unspeakable truth at the heart of Wyndclyffe, and not everyone will make it off the island alive.Perfect for fans of Karen M. McManus's The Cousins and Shirley Jackson's We Have Always Lived in the Castle, Edgar Award-winning and Wall Street Journal-bestselling author Joe Hart's Wyndclyffe is a taut, multilayered mystery that pulls you in and won't let go.
Wynter’s Queer Revolution: Community Organizing and the Future of the Humanities answers the question, What’s the point of teaching humanities in the interregnum? The book emerges from the wisdom of colleagues teaching Community Change Studies at public colleges with Black, Brown, immigrant, and low-income students across the U.S.—framing praxis with a vision for a Community Organizing Humanities. Grounded in practices of collective struggle, the pedagogies that nourish them, the decolonial thought of Sylvia Wynter, and generative insights of queer theory, this book licenses a new project for the humanities: cultivating “revolutionary collective subjects”. What if education itself, as Wynter suggests, were reimagined as an initiation into “queerer” collective subjectivities for the human species? Hannah Ashley makes the case that just as the humanities can enrich organizing, organizing can reinvigorate the humanities—bridging theory and practice to shape a more just and as yet unimagined world. This rigorous yet accessible volume is essential reading for teacher-scholars working in public humanities, community change studies, or sustainability; and is practical and applied enough for organizers and anyone invested in reshaping the human story in this urgent time between the polycrisis and the world yet to come.
A million years ago at a barbecue, two lonely migrants, Wynne and Bren, a couple of Scots on the wrong side of the border, got a little too handsy with one another. And yet, it happened to be the type of handsy that leads to a friendship, based in comfort of the familiar and the embers of what could have been. All is well in their ship, right until Wynne falls for one of Bren's friends. The worst friend that Bren could have ever feared. Like into a gingerbread house and straight into an oven worst friend ever. In a South London flower shop, run by a soon to be boxer's wife, Bren has the perfect, light bulb moment of a plan to get Wynne to exit the Grimm fairy tale. The plan goes into action on a certain day, the only day that's made entirely for romance and crazy declarations. Crazy like an offer of a magical holiday to Morocco Who'd say no? Wynne hasn't a clue what's coming. But Bren's going to make sure she enjoys every single minute of it.
