Seeking the Lost, Keeping Them, Making Them Disciples: Transforming New Converts from Members to Disciples Through a Christ-Based Discipleship Program

God bless Dr. Benoit Petit-Homme for all the work he has done in putting this book together. I believe that any church or leader who will follow these biblically-grounded principles will see beautiful results in changed lives for the kingdom. Teresa L. Reeve, PhD, Associate Dean, Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary, Associate Professor of New Testament Contexts, Andrews University, United States of America Dr. Benoit Petit-Homme's contribution to the discipleship crisis is a compelling re-examination of scripture, church history, and 21st century pastoral experience. Practical and convincing, his straightforward style brings real solutions to the evangelistic Achilles' heels of attrition. He reminds us of what has been forgotten and calls us back to our relational roots. Pr. Ron Kelly, Senior Pastor, Village Seventh-day Adventist Church, Berrien Springs, Michigan, United States of America Seeking the Lost, Keeping Them, Making Them Disciples by Dr. Benoit Petit-Homme is a handy Christ-based discipleship resource that will contribute to the mission of training and equipping church ministry leaders in the evangelistic work of reaping, retaining, and nurturing new believing Christians. This is a must-read for church officers, pastors, and ministry directors in the Christian church. Ron C. Smith, PhD., D.Min, President, Southern Union Conference of SDA Every year, many thousands of people hear the Good News of Jesus Christ and choose to be baptized and join a church community. Unfortunately, it is also true that every year many new converts leave a church relatively shortly after joining. The specific reasons that each person leaves the church could fill a book by themselves, but they all boil down to one thing: a lack of focus on the part of the church community on turning converts into disciples of our Savior. A disciple of Christ does more than attend church services. A disciple is an active member of the church community. A disciple is a witness to others. A disciple seeks to grow the church by seeking to lead everyone they meet to Christ. Dr. Benoit Petit-Homme is a committed disciple of Christ, and after extensive study of exactly why new converts leave the church, he has developed a process by which any church can make disciples. All it takes is a little extra work, a bit of encouragement, and an unwavering faith in the Lord. About the Author Dr. Benoit Petit-Homme is an Adventist Christian Minister who loves preaching, teaching, and mentoring. He has spent the past several years conducting Christ-centered evangelistic series, workshops, and seminars in the U.S. and abroad. He believes that the more he knows, the better he can serve God, and he enjoys fostering that belief in others. He lives with his wife, Carolle, and has two sons, Carl and Berny. He holds a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min), a Master in Divinity (MDiv), and a BA in Economics.
Counterterrorism: Reassessing the Policy Response promotes a more nuanced understanding of the effectiveness of current counterterrorism practices and the need for reform. It challenges government, media, and academic accounts that exaggerate terrorist threats, particularly in comparison to other threats such as organized crime. Author Benoît Gomis responds to the problem of overreaction with guidelines that address terrorism as a problem to be managed rather than as an existential threat that can be eradicated. He proposes a more realistic assessment of the threat from terrorism, domestic or international, by relating terrorism to broader security, social, and political contexts. The book examines current issues in counterterrorism, including the opportunity costs of counterterrorism policies, their psychological impact, the role of the media and experts, and the risks associated with oversimplifying the challenges posed by terrorism. It also explores less prominent areas of terrorism studies such as right-wing extremism, links between terrorism and organized crime, and citizen privacy.Case studies illustrate each chapter, with some detailing differences in counterterrorist policy between countries. The studies focus on Western countries, particularly the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. The book also highlights the responsibility of nongovernmental actors in analyzing the threat and informing policies.Counterterrorism: Reassessing the Policy Response is a timely commentary on contemporary developments in counterterrorist policy and practice, including drones, social media, and recent revelations on intelligence programs. It identifies potential dangers in technology and measures that can be taken to minimize them. More importantly, it provides guidance on how current policy can be reformed to assume a more objective, measured, and effective approach against terrorism.
Soft Ground Tunnel Design is a textbook that teaches the principles of tunnel and underground space design in soft ground. ‘Soft ground’ refers to soil, in contrast to rock. The book focuses on stability, prediction of ground movements, and structural design of the lining. It shows that the choice of excavation and support methods depends on ground stability, limitation of damage to the existing built environment, and health, safety and environmental considerations. Benoît Jones builds on the basic principles of soil-structure interaction, the three-dimensional effects of construction sequence, and the effects of construction on other surface or subsurface structures in steps of gradually increasing complexity. The use of worked examples throughout, and example problems at the end of each chapter, give the reader confidence to apply their knowledge. Engineers and graduate students will be able to: • understand the basis for choosing an underground construction method and/or ground improvement method• calculate heading stability• predict ground movements• understand the complex soil-structure interaction around an advancing tunnel• design tunnel linings in soft ground using a variety of methods• predict the effects of construction on the built environment and assess potential damageBenoît Jones has worked in tunnelling as a designer, contractor and academic for more than 20 years. He set up and ran the MSc Tunnelling and Underground Space course at the University of Warwick. He is now managing director of his own company, Inbye Engineering.

Schuffenecker? An artist hardly anyone has heard of. And yet he painted some of the most celebrated and expensive "van Goghs" ever sold. Most of his fakes are still considered genuine paintings by the great Vincent van Gogh. Such icons as the Sunflowers, sold by Christie's for a world record price in 1987, the Arl sienne in New York's Met, and the much admired "self-portrait" showing the artist with bandaged ear and pipe are, in fact, the handiwork of Emile Schuffenecker (1851 - 1934). In Schuffenecker's Sunflowers Benoit Landais and Hanspeter Born explain how a man of modest talent has managed to fool critics. dealers and collectors; and why, eighty years after his death, the art world still accepts his forgeries as van Goghs. The book tells how the fakes were made, how they were given false credentials and foisted on guileless buyers. It is the incredible story of a mousy little man who became one of the most successful art forgers of all times.

Saga.

Applying any material to an existing concrete surface intrinsically entails the development of a bond. Considering the ever increasing importance of concrete repair and protection, which imply the creation of an interface between two materials, an improved knowledge of concrete surface characteristics is paramount.Surface engineering, which has evolved from the world of metallurgy, addresses all surface-related considerations, notably adhesion. It provides a fundamental understanding of what will make the contact between two materials effective or not, allowing for interactions of variable intensity. It also comes with a variety of scientific tools for characterizing the quality of the substrate, the properties of the new material layer and their interface. In the case of concrete surface treatment, this is especially important for achieving lasting results. This book addresses the essentials of concrete surface engineering in view of a wide variety of concrete surface treatments, from protective coatings to repairs. It provides a leading-edge source of information for practicing engineers, architects, repair specialists, and researchers on the following topics: Surface engineering principles applied to concreteMethods and techniques for assessing concrete surface characteristicsFundamentals of adhesion between concrete and surface repairs/treatmentsCompatibility requirements for concrete surface repairs/treatmentsReview of surface preparation techniques available for concreteAchievement and appraisal of bond between existing concrete and surface repairs/treatmentsBenoît Bissonnette is professor of civil engineering at Laval University in Quebec City, Canada.Luc Courard is professor of building materials at the University of Liège in Belgium.Andrzej Garbacz is professor of building materials engineering in the Department of Building Materials Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology in Poland.
