A little girl seeking an adventure one morning, discovers a footpath in the forest behind her grandparents' house. Walking on the path she meets wild animals who live there. Each animal reveals basic facts and lessons about the natural world. A crow is very clever at solving problems. A chipmunk signals when it senses danger. The hawk flies high over the forest but can spot the smallest things on the forest floor. At the end of the footpath, she realizes this adventure helped her know herself and appreciate important things in life.

In the second book of Adelyn's Adventures, a little girl chooses to explore the garden her grandparents plant every year. She meets different creatures, each doing its duties for Mother Nature. Ruby, a perky hummingbird, flies in and out of the garden, while fighting off other hummers. A garden spider mends her web after an overnight storm, while describing her duties for the next generation of garden spiders. The garden is where they start life, follow instinct to do their work, and die. Real life is hard. Creatures constantly search for food and build shelters. They must keep watch for enemies and defend their territory. The garden is also a symbol. This is the Garden of Earth, after the Garden of Eden. It reminds humans they do not follow instinct. They must make decisions about the problems they face. They must work for things they need. They have a duty to take care of the plants, animals, soil, water and air. They must have self-respect and respect others. Adelyn learns that work in the Garden of Earth helps humans discover the path to a good life.

In the third book of Adelyn's Adventures, a girl travels in the summer with her grandparents to the Atlantic seacoast. They stay at a cottage in a secluded cove, with the sand and surf a short distance from their front porch. A great black-backed seagull, named GG, befriends the girl. They spend the day exploring life on the beach, in the surf and the waves out at sea. With GG's help, the girl meets a host of marine creatures, some very small, some very large. She meets birds and other land animals that live by the seacoast. A fox family enters the beach and one of the kits gets into trouble with a blue crab. A bunch of leatherback sea turtles gorge themselves on jellyfish. Humpback whales arrive on their annual migration north from the Caribbean. She discovers the vastness of the oceans surrounding the earth's surface and the astonishing diversity of plant and animal life. The little girl's exploration of a beach in a small cove on the Atlantic Ocean helps her understand the creation, the beauty and the greatness of our world. She thinks about the God-given duty of all human beings to keep the earth fresh, clean and bountiful for all living and non-living things throughout time.

In Russian Wonderland provides a first hand description of what life is truly like in a socialist system by relating the experiences of the author as to daily life in such a country. His description of daily personal interactions with average Soviet citizens over a six-month period tell the real story of life under socialist tyranny. Americans should pause and carefully consider what installing such a system here would mean.

What Does Graptolite Origination and Extinction Reveal about the Cause of the Late Ordovician Mass Extinction?

Assesses the macroevolutionary turnover of paleotropical planktic graptolites during the Late Ordovician Mass Extinction (LOME) via automated sequencing and capture-mark-recapture modeling. Graptolites exhibited a succession of turnover pulses (sensu Elizabeth Vrba) that were coincident with the main phases of the Hirnantian glaciation and during which the Diplograptina experienced declining metapopulation size, elevated extinction, zero species originations, and ultimately, complete extermination. Concurrently, the Neograptina (latest Katian temperate zone immigrants) exhibit pulses of both extinction and adaptive radiation. Thus, the LOME involved intense species selection and the wholesale alteration of the clade diversity structure of a major element of the zooplankton. The LOME is unlikely to have been a direct effect of ocean anoxia or sampling bias but rather resulted from Hirnantian climate change, which altered nutrient supplies and plankton community compositions along with ecological displacement and loss of habitat that together drove the succession of turnover pulses. This title is also available as open access on Cambridge Core.
