Nach einer Einfuhrung in Telesios Leben und Werk ist ein ausfuhrlicher UEberblick uber den Danae-Mythos in der antiken Literatur gegeben. Vor allem aber ist Telesios Tragoedie, ihre Anlage und Konzeption, im Vergleich zu den antiken Dramen (Euripides, Sophokles, Naevius) besprochen. In einem eigenen Kapitel ist Danae in zeitgleicher bildlicher Rezeption zum Vergleich mit Telesios Drama herangezogen. Die Textedition folgt dem Erstdruck von 1529; weitere Ausgaben bis ins 18. Jahrhundert sind berucksichtigt. Neben Anmerkungen ist erstmals auch eine deutsche UEbersetzung beigegeben. Zusatzlich ausgewertet sind Bearbeitungen des Danae-Stoffes in der Literatur des 15.-20. Jahrhunderts (Taccone, Heywood, de La Font, Morris, Bischoff, Strauss). Ein Anhang gilt der Frage der Vergewaltigung Danaes in antiken und neuzeitlichen Texten.

Special emphasis is placed on those periods in which Italian film history became aesthetically decisive for world cinematography: silent film of the 1910s, neorealism after World War II, and auteur and genre cinema around 1960. And then on the multifaceted development up to the present day, which still guarantees films from Italy a significant place in international cinema. The chapters are introduced with compact descriptions of Italy's political and social history and the institutional formation of film and cinema. This is the basis for the extensive examination of genres and films. The film analyses also include a look at the reception by the audiences.
