After becoming what he so clearly and strongly resisted a consumer Josh Swensen finds himself in a paranoid state of no return. That is, until he's kidnapped and coaxed into resurfacing as Larry, his old activist persona. Before long, Larry is back on the scene with much more on his mind than anti-consumerism this time, he wants to affect change in government. And Larry isn't taking a conventional path or starting small in local government. He just doesn't do things halfway. But can he really become an eighteen-year-old president of the United States? Even if he can, is he sure he really wants to?"

Films such as The Naked Witch, Zontar, The Thing From Venus and Mars Needs Women have gained large cult followings, and movies like A Bullet For Pretty Boy, Free, White and 21 and Goodbye, Norma Jean became box office hits. Still, no other independent filmmaker of the latter 20th century may elicit such a disparity of response from general movie audiences and cult film buffs alike as the late, legendary Larry Buchanan. This study, the first serious examination of Buchanan's body of work, addresses consistent themes such as the end of suburbia, the rebel outsider, the oppressive establishment, the curse of fame, and "creatures of destruction." The highly political subtext found in virtually every one of the filmmaker's projects is also explored. Chapters are devoted to more than 20 of Buchanan's films; information on some of the unfinished, unreleased (and in at least one case), deliberately destroyed projects is offered, as well. Photographs illustrating nearly all the films are included.

Larry Lizard lives deep in the Redwood Forest with his mom, dad, sisters, and brothers. At bedtime, under starry skies, his parents tell their little lizards tales about their ancestors: the mighty dragons and dinosaurs Next day, while his parents are busy and his siblings are nowhere in sight, Larry pretends to be the great king of all dinosaurs-Tyrannosaurus rex-and as his imagination takes over, he sees dinosaurs in everything around him, from the water to the insects to even the clouds above Soon he is battling a Brontosaurus, then leaping at a flying Pterodactyl, stomping, chomping, and roaring at his prey.As Larry walked, he passed a pooland watched his muscles flex;today our hero was a greatTyrannosaurus rex.The King of Dinos looked aboutand spied his meal at hand: a huge and heavy Brontosaurwas sleeping in the sand. . . .The Secret Life of Larry Lizard is a delightful poem about the fun of adventurous imaginative play and the excitement that comes with learning about one's ancestors-and the awesomeness of dinosaurs This picture book includes a glossary, titled "Things to Know," which is both informative and humorous, plus a Family Tree where children can write the names of some of their ancestors.
