Il Corsaro Nero, tormentato dal rimorso per aver abbandonato in mare lamata Honorata Wan Guld, ma deciso a concludere la vendetta contro il duca Wan Guld, responsabile della morte dei suoi tre fratelli. Il Corsaro Nero, dopo varie avventure, riesce a raggiungere il duca di Wan Guld a Vera-Cruz. I filibustieri della Tortuga conquistano la citt , ma il duca riesce a fuggire ancora una volta e il Corsaro e i sui amici vengono catturati e imbarcati verso la Florida per essergli consegnati.
Obra de gran extensi n, ostenta cierta declarada semejanza con Madame Bovary de Flaubert, y Ana Karenina influencia a la que habr a que a adir la del naturalismo y la del krausismo (corriente filos fica que pretend a la regeneraci n cultural y moral de Espa a). La Regenta se destaca por su gran riqueza de personajes y planos secundarios, as como el uso de la t cnica del fluir de los recuerdos, mientras que el retrato de la protagonista queda delicadamente desenfocado y vago. Por otra parte, aqu la ca da de la se ora provinciana tiene lugar entre dos cortejadores muy diversos: el m s seductor gal n de la ciudad, que acaba triunfando, y un can nigo de la catedral. El retrato de este can nigo es pieza clave del libro. Para la descripci n del ambiente provinciano y del entramado de la vida colectiva -lo m s naturalista de la novela- Clar n utiliza t cnicas como el mon logo interiorizado (el monologo interior nace m s tarde con Joyce y Doevstoyesky) y el estilo indirecto libre, que hacen que la historia sea narrada por los personajes a trav s de sus pensamientos y que permiten penetrar en sus interioridades.gracias a estas t cnicas y un minucioso estudio del personaje en el medio (es decir la sociedad en la que vive) los personajes adquieren una cierta profundidad psicol gica.
