"Le Livre des Odes", connu galement sous le nom de "Le Classique des vers", s'est d'abord appel les Po mes, ou les Trois Cents Po mes puisqu'il compte trois cents cinq po mes. Ce recueil est une anthologie rassemblant des textes qui vont du xie au ve si cle av. J.-C., provenant de la Plaine centrale (les royaumes occupant le nord et le sud de la vall e du Fleuve Jaune), et est l'un des rares textes de l'Antiquit chinoise avoir surv cu la destruction des livres op r e par l'empereur Qin Shi Huangdi apr s son accession au pouvoir en 221 av. J.-C. On y trouve les plus anciens exemples de la po sie chinoise. Composition: Le Classique des vers contient 305 po mes r partis en quatre cat gories: Les chansons populaires (po mes 1 160), class es en fonction de leur origine, et provenant de quinze royaumes diff rents. Les odes mineures (po mes 161 234). Les odes majeures (po mes 235 265). Les odes religieuses (po mes 266 305). Quatre sont du royaume Lu, tat d'o provient l'anthologie. Cinq viennent du royaume de Song. Plusieurs propositions ont t faites pour expliquer la r partition des po mes en quatre parties. Le classement peut tre th matique: c'est bien le cas pour les premi re et quatri me parties. Il a pu aussi tre fait en fonction des occasions o les po mes taient chant s: chansons populaires chant es par le peuple lors de f tes, odes majeures lors de c r monies de cour, odes religieuses dans les temples. Une autre hypoth se est que le classement est fonction des diff rents styles de musique sur lesquels les po mes taient chant s.
