Stephan Torre's first collection of poems, Man Living on a Side Creek, was published by New York University Press in 1994, the same year it won NYU's Bobst Award. Stephan Torre has been published in many US and Canadian journals, received two Marin Arts Council grants, and special recognitions for his long poems.
Awakening is the log kept by Arthur Davies, senior analyst for the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. Arthur, initially very skeptical, became convinced an alien really was being held by the government at a secret facility. The log is his story of what he did with that information, and how he was awakened to a part of himself he had never imagined; and how that experience showed him the threat that hangs over civilization and humanity itself. Awakening is a 2018 winner of the Book Excellence Award for Literary Excellence.
The life of Stephan Sure, born John Gregory Suhor, began serenely and ended violently in New Orleans. He was both participant and voyeur in the city's middle class, upper class, and gay cultures, yet never found a true home in any of them, nor during his years in Florida, the Midwest, or his sporadic hitchhikes to nowhere. Throughout, Sure kept with him three notebooks comprising The Book of Rude: short lines ranging from insults and puns to social commentaries and cries for help. Born from these rude witticisms is this collection of poetry and short stories that in total represent the far-ranging experiences of this insightful and complicated man. His father, Charles Suhor, gathered his writings after Sure's death for this unique volume.
