The success, failure and revival of Barry Town is a story that needs to be told. Few clubs have risen so high – facing Dynamo Kiev and FC Porto in the Champions League – and then sunk so low – going into administration, relegated and eventually withdrawn from football altogether – before being brought back to life by loyal fans who even had to take the Football Association of Wales to court in order to play. Following the club over 25 years, starting with the 1993-94 season when they beat Cardiff City to win the Welsh Cup, Unbelievable Barry Town covers the club’s golden decade where they won the Welsh Premier seven times, through the years of playing as an amateur team under controversial owner Stuart Lovering, until the fans were able to take over and turn the club around to once again play in Europe in 2019.
The Collected Supernatural and Weird Fiction of Barry Pain-Volume 1
Volume one of Barry Pain's tales of terror Barry Eric Odell Pain was born in Cambridge, England in 1864. A graduate of Corpus Christi college, Cambridge, he joined the staff of the Daily Chronicle and Black and White periocals. He became a regular contributor to the literary magazine The Granta and to Cornhill Magazine, Punch and The Speaker. In keeping with many authors of his era, his literary output was prodigious. Credit for the recognition he eventually achieved is said to have come from endorsements by Robert Louis Stevenson who compared Pain's writings to those of Guy de Maupassant. There is a dark side to some of Pain's writing, although he has been more widely recognised as a parodist and writer of lightly humorous stories. This darker side of Pain's work has resulted in a substantial legacy of supernatural, horror and weird fiction. This is possibly why his work, particularly the very well-known, 'The Undying Thing', was highly regarded by H.P. Lovecraft. In the first volume of this comprehensive three volume Leonaur collection of Barry Pain's fiction of the strange readers will discover 'The Glass of Supreme Moments', 'The Missing Years', 'The Unfinished Game', 'This is All' and many others. Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket.

Retired council administrator George Barry heads to a Spanish resort hoping to rekindle his marriage. Instead, boredom awakens his long-dormant alter ego: Fairness Man. When the Palm Oasis Social Committee launches a fiercely patriotic “Great British Week” to keep local culture at bay, George rebels. Armed with an anorak cape, a Level 42 mask and an unshakeable belief in decency, he teams up with Spanish farmers battling a corrupt water-theft scheme. From donkey-led charges through tomato fields to flamboyant confrontations, George takes on small-mindedness, injustice and his own fading sense of purpose. Along the way, he rediscovers not only romance, but himself. Sun-drenched, comic and warm-hearted, this post-Brexit reimagining of Don Quixote asks a simple question: what divides us and what brings us together?

This title is written in highly readable style with interesting anecdotes. Finnane had access to Barry's personal correspondence and an archive of over 10,000 letters documenting Australian and American life from the Korean War, McCarthyism and Petrov to the Vietnam War. JV Barry was the most important figure in the development of Australian criminology and an internationally renowned. Barry established the Council for Civil Liberties in 1936, was a patron of criminology as a discipline in Australia and a constant advocate for law reform. His life illuminates much about Cold War politics in Australia and he had an ASIO file run on him throughout his career. This is the history of John Vincent Barry: judge, historian, criminologist, civil libertarian and public intellectual before his time. Drawing on an archive of more than 10,000 letters as well as recent interviews with those who knew him, Mark Finnane looks at Barry in the cultural, political and intellectual milieu of inter - and post-war Australia, and describes Barry's considerable role in the creation of a discourse of justice and human rights in Australia. The book approaches under-documented domains of Australian life such as crime and the courts, divorce, the building of institutions, the conduct and consequences of public enquiries, enriching our understanding of the constraints faced by earlier generations and the possibilities opened up by their choices.
