Here's the sixth book in the beloved and hilarious Alvin Ho chapter book series, which has been compared to Diary of a Wimpy Kid and is perfect for both beginning and reluctant readers. Alvin, an Asian American second grader who's afraid of everything, is taking his fears to a whole new level--or should we say, continent. On a trip to introduce brand-new baby Ho to relatives in China, Alvin's anxiety is at fever pitch. First there's the harrowing 16-hour plane ride; then there's a whole slew of cultural differences to contend with: eating lunch food for breakfast, kung fu lessons, and acupuncture treatment (yikes ). Not to mention the crowds that make it easy for a small boy to get lost. From Lenore Look and New York Times bestselling illustrator LeUyen Pham comes a drop-dead-funny and touching series with a truly unforgettable character. "Shares with Diary of a Wimpy Kid the humor that stems from trying to manipulate the world." --Newsday "Alvin's a winner." --New York Post

This collaborative masterpiece of hilarious city comedy was performed by the Children of the Revels at the Blackfriars playhouse in 1605. The story is of an allegorical simplicity that lends itself to satire of civic mores and traditions as well as to parody of the sentimental, idealising London comedy presented at the amphitheatres in the suburbs: Goldsmith Touchstone, an upright London citizen, has one modest and one ambitious daughter, one righteous and one disreputable apprentice; virtue is rewarded, ruthlessness comes to grief - and receives a drenching in the muddy Thames. The introduction to this edition discusses various methods of establishing authorship and highlights the irony of the collaborators' comic vision of contemporary London life.

The second full-length novel featuring the popular characters Jeeves and Bertie Wooster, after Thank You, Jeeves. It also features a host of other recurring Wodehouse characters (some of whom it introduces) and is mostly set at Brinkley Court, the home of Bertie's Aunt Dahlia.I would urge you, however, to get hold of the complete novel Right Ho, Jeeves, where you will encounter it fully in context and find that it leaps even more magnificently to life. I don't know if you have had the same experience, but the snag I always come up against when I'm telling a story is this dashed difficult problem of where to begin it. It's a thing you don't want to go wrong over, because one false step and you're sunk. I mean, if you fool about too long at the start, trying to establish atmosphere, as they call it, and all that sort of rot, you fail to grip and the customers walk out on you. Get off the mark, on the other hand, like a scalded cat, and your public is at a loss. It simply raises its eyebrows, and can't make out what you're talking about. And in opening my report of the complex case of Gussie Fink-Nottle, Madeline Bassett, my Cousin Angela, my Aunt Dahlia, my Uncle Thomas, young Tuppy Glossop and the cook, Anatole, with the above spot of dialogue, I see that I have made the second of these two floaters. I shall have to hark back a bit. And taking it for all in all and weighing this against that, I suppose the affair may be said to have had its inception, if inception is the word I want, with that visit of mine to Cannes. If I hadn't gone to Cannes, I shouldn't have met the Bassett or bought that white mess jacket, and Angela wouldn't have met her shark, and Aunt Dahlia wouldn't have played baccarat. Yes, most decidedly, Cannes was the point d'appui. . .
For many years, Bui Tin was one of Hanoi's most prominent journalists. Until September 1990, when he decided to remain in France though not, as he insists, to defect, he was Deputy Editor of Nhan Dan, the Communist Party daily, the Vietnamese equivalent of Pravda. Before that he worked in a similar capacity on the Vietnam People's Army newspaper and carried out numerous important assignments. In 1973 he was official spokesman for the North Vietnamese delegation which went to Saigon after the Paris Agreements to arrange the return home of US prisoners of war. Two years later, he was one of the first high-ranking Communists to enter Saigon, and witnessed the scene at Independence Palace when the South Vietnamese government formally surrendered on April 30, 1975. He then went on to report, despite official reluctance, the growing tension on the border between Vietnam and Cambodia which prompted Hanoi to overthrow Pol Pot's regime. Once again, on that occasion, Bui Tin was one of the first Vietnamese to enter Phnom Penh. As many foreign journalists have commented, 'He was always in the right place at the right time.'It was no accident. Bui Tin joined the Revolution and the Communist Party in 1945, which led to his active participation in the war against the French colonial regime. After 1954, he continued to serve as an officer in the People's Army and was promoted colonel following two pioneering treks down what became known as the Ho Chi Minh Trail. The reports he wrote of his observations during these hazardous journeys obviously impressed the leadership in Hanoi, and he was therefore reassigned as an official journalist. In this privileged position, Bui Tin came to know many of Hanoi's top leaders, often accompanied them on their trips abroad, and could not help but observe their strengths and weaknesses.
