Asian American History

Asian American History

Jonathan H. X. Lee

Cognella Academic Publishing
2015
sidottu
Asian American History: Primary Documents of the Asian American Experience cultivates historical perspective through experiential and reflective learning. Designed to fill a content gap in general introductory books on the subject, this text shares documentary case studies of Asian immigrants struggling for the right to be fully American. These readings illustrate the dynamic, powerful, and divisive socially constructed nature of racial categories, as well as the legacy of colonialism that served as a foundation for the development of racial hierarchies. Jonathan H.X. Lee holds a Ph.D. in religious studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is an associate professor of Asian American studies at San Francisco State University. Christen T. Sasaki earned her Ph.D. in history at the University of California, Los Angeles and is an assistant professor of Asian American studies at San Francisco State University.
A Theology of Hope

A Theology of Hope

Sang Yun Lee; Allan H Anderson

Lee advocates a ""theology of hope,"" essentially different from the Moltmann version on which the idea is developed. Lee shows how Cho's message, particularly in its promise of a ""saved"" healthy, happy and prosperous life (the ""Threefold Blessing""), was the antidote to the events that had ravaged the Korean peninsula in the 1950s. At the same time, Asian Pentecostal scholars might also need a greater appreciation for both the diversity and richness of their cultural and religious past. . . . They] have found both culturally and biblically acceptable alternatives to, and adaptations from, the practices of their ancient religions and are seeking to provide answers to the needs of their own context. --Allan H. Anderson, University of Birmingham, England (From the Foreword) ""Sang Yun Lee provides with this monograph the definitive theological apologetic for the 'blessing theology' of contemporary Korean Pentecostalism. . . ."" --Amos Yong, Professor of Theology & Mission, Fuller Theological Seminary ""This book presents a timely and yet bold plan for the recontextualization and reinterpretation of the Full Gospel theology of hope, expressed in Threefold Blessing."" --Wonsuk Ma, Distinguished Professor of Global Christianity, Oral Roberts University ""Engaging the reader in the historical, soteriological, pneumatological, eco-theological, and socio-theological perspectives of a revitalized Korean theology, this book calls for a broad renewal of the role of the church as a catalyst for social transformation that changes the way we see salvation, prosperity, and healing."" --Wolfgang Vondey, University of Birmingham, author of Pentecostal Theology: Living the Full Gospel ""This is a breathtakingly thorough treatment of the Korean context for doing theology. Anyone interested in either Pentecostal or Korean theology cannot afford to ignore this important work. I learned much from it."" --Frank D. Macchia, Professor of Christian Theology, Vanguard University Sang Yun Lee, PhD (University of Birmingham), teaches at Hansei University and is a member of the pastoral staff at the Yoido Full Gospel Church in Seoul, South Korea. He is married to Sarah Nayung Bae and they have three children.

Manual of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

Manual of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

Mark H. Greenberg; Alvin Lee Day; Suliman Alradawi

Springer International Publishing AG

sidottu
This book is a quick start guide that equips students and professionals with musculoskeletal ultrasound image acquisition basics. Written in plain language, it focuses on the common, clinically relevant conditions diagnosable by musculoskeletal ultrasound. With many verbal and illustrative mnemonics, images, and whimsical illustrations, the manual provides many different methods to remember complicated anatomy and examination protocols. Manual of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound teaches a protocol-based approach designed to help people understand why and how we perform musculoskeletal ultrasound studies. Each chapter covers a different body part and starts with basic anatomy and the clinical questions we want an ultrasound examination of that body part to answer. The protocols within each chapter tell the student precisely how and where to move the probe to obtain and optimize images. It demonstrates what a normal sonographic image should look like and explains what dynamic or structural issues would be abnormal in certain clinical circumstances. The protocol is a checklist that can be practiced on a partner or the reader themself. Chapters also discuss pathologic entities discernable on ultrasound, pitfalls to avoid, and imaging tricks of the trade. This manual is invaluable for students and practicing clinicians in rheumatology, orthopedics, physiatry, neurology, sports medicine, advanced practice, and sonography.

Design, Analysis and Application of Magnetless Doubly Salient Machines

Design, Analysis and Application of Magnetless Doubly Salient Machines

Christopher H. T. Lee

Springer Verlag, Singapore
2018
sidottu
This thesis investigates the key characteristics of magnetless doubly salient machines, evaluates their design philosophies, and proposes new topologies for various applications. It discusses the background of and previous research on magnetless machines, while also outlining upcoming trends and potential future developments. The thesis begins by presenting various torque-improving structures – namely the multi-tooth structure, the double-rotor (DR) structure, the axial-field (AF) structure, and the flux-reversal (FR) structure – for magnetless machines. It subsequently addresses the idea of merging the design philosophies of two different machines to form new dual-mode machines. Thanks to a reconfigured winding arrangement and controllable DC-field excitation, the proposed machines can further extend their operating range to meet the extreme demands of applications in electric vehicles and wind power generation. Lastly, the thesis employs the finite element method (FEM) tothoroughly analyze the proposed machines’ key performance parameters and develops experimental setups to verify the proposed concepts.

English Classes in Slumber

English Classes in Slumber

S.-H. Gyemyong Ahn; Mun Woo Lee

Springer Verlag, Singapore
2020
sidottu
This book explains why some Korean high school students sleep during English classes in spite of the emphasized value of English in their society. It examines how this sleeping-in-class phenomenon can be understood by means of such marginalized students’ emic outlooks on themselves, the target language, their teachers, schools, and society/culture; and by means of the views of teachers who have experienced such in-class sleepers. To understand the phenomenon more holistically, it pursues a multi-disciplinary approach drawing on studies of demotivation and amotivation, psychological needs, and student experiences of schooling, as well as sociocultural theories of learning and agency and of interpersonal dynamics, among others. On the basis of a multi-modal analysis of interview data from the student and teacher participants, it theoretically interprets the phenomenon at the classroom (‘micro-’), school (‘meso-’) and society-culture (‘macro-’) levels. Taking a humanistic/existential approach to education, it subsequently presents a number of cultural actions that it advocates implementing in a situation-sensitive manner to help in-class sleepers and their educational institutions awaken from their chronic slumber. Lastly, it presents practical and theoretical implications for more humanistic pedagogy, and global studies of student disengagement, in English-as-a-foreign-language classes.

Assembly and Reliability of Lead-Free Solder Joints

Assembly and Reliability of Lead-Free Solder Joints

John H. Lau; Ning-Cheng Lee

Springer Verlag, Singapore
2020
sidottu
This book focuses on the assembly and reliability of lead-free solder joints. Both the principles and engineering practice are addressed, with more weight placed on the latter. This is achieved by providing in-depth studies on a number of major topics such as solder joints in conventional and advanced packaging components, commonly used lead-free materials, soldering processes, advanced specialty flux designs, characterization of lead-free solder joints, reliability testing and data analyses, design for reliability, and failure analyses for lead-free solder joints. Uniquely, the content not only addresses electronic manufacturing services (EMS) on the second-level interconnects, but also packaging assembly on the first-level interconnects and the semiconductor back-end on the 3D IC integration interconnects. Thus, the book offers an indispensable resource for the complete food chain of electronics products.
