An uplifting story that offers a reassuring message about finding the courage to take a small risk--and the sweet reward that may follow. Sometimes you want to eat a juicy red plum at the top of a tree, but it seems so hard. What if you start the climb and a strong wind blows and the tree shakes? What if it rains and you slip and FALL? But those sweet-smelling, juicy, ripe purple plums up there look so tasty, and best of all, Mama is waiting for you with words of encouragement. . . . This tender picture book by New York Times bestselling author Randall de S ve, with illustrations by Kate Gardiner, is an empowering reminder that to fall and get back up again is the bravest, and sometimes most delicious, step of all.

THE SHAPE OF A MAN: A NOVELLA AND FIVE STORIES is storytelling in the grand Southern tradition of Robert Penn Warren, William Faulkner, and Flannery O'Connor. In the title novella a young boy seeks to emulate the courage of his father as the two of them attempt to unravel the mystery of a ghastly crime against a simpleton fieldhand in 1950's rural South Carolina. In "Laissez Faire Redux" a traditional South Carolinian and his liberal brother-in-law argue over the flying of the Confederate flag. "Another Woman's Ring" depicts a late-life romance, while in "Midnight" a middle-aged housewife is tempted to passion by a mysterious stranger. "The Liberation of Marian K." takes place in fashionable Manhattan: a man comes to admire an eccentric socialite he once despised. "Family Portrait" partakes of the old Russian literary tradition, exemplified by Tolstoy and Turgenev, of depicting a life in miniature: a woman risks madness and ridicule to preserve the heroic memory of her dead son.

"WHAT HAPPENED TO ME? Reflections of a Journey Why did I write this book...? ...Because I went on an incredible, life-changing journey and I'm excited about that! I hit a season in my life where I started asking questions again... I went from passive to active... I started challenging my own worldview... I applied jumper cables to my brain... My only hope is that you'll start some kind of journey in your life! Ask some questions... Explore some assumptions... Examine some long-held preconceptions about life, purpose and meaning... In no way do I think your journey has to mirror mine... My only hope and prayer is that you'll start an honest quest! --Randall Niles
