This book explores the rapid growth of the sharing economy, specifically of Airbnb, in recent years and how it has challenged traditional economies in many countries around the globe. With almost 5 million listings in more than 190 countries, many consider Airbnb as one of the most disruptive developments in tourism over the past decade. While this is a book about Western Australia as a case in point, the issues addressed in this book speak to the broader development of the sharing economy and its effects experienced nationally and indeed internationally. Thus, through the adoption of a case-specific analysis of the growth and impact of Airbnb, the book significantly contributes to closing existing knowledge gaps on the Airbnb phenomenon by exploring not only stakeholder perceptions of the sharing economy and Airbnb, the extent of Airbnb supply and demand, and how this differs from conventional accommodation demand, but also what policy responses have been employed in other tourism destinations worldwide. Western Australia in this regard serves as an exemplar case to shed light on the Airbnb phenomenon. This book presents a comprehensive global study that has investigated the Airbnb phenomenon from a supply, demand, stakeholder, and government response perspective and thus offers new empirical insights, which are of interest to government agencies and the tourism sector and are a valuable source of data to inform current policy debate.

Die Regierungszeit des Bayernherzogs Albrecht IV. gilt gemeinhin als Schlusselepoche der territorialen Entwicklung, gipfelnd in der Wiedervereinigung der Teildukate in seiner weitgehend das Alte Reich pragenden Gestalt. Die Arbeit untersucht die Moglichkeiten des Wittelsbachers auf reichspolitischer wie "internationaler" Ebene, um abschliessend zu einem Profil des politischen Instrumentariums an der Grenze von Spatmittelalter zur Fruhen Neuzeit zu gelangen. Hierbei zeigt sich die Notwendigkeit einer neuen Einschatzung wie eines neuen Vokabulars, um Eigentumlichkeiten einer Zeit aufzuzeigen, deren innere Bander letztlich starker waren als vermeintliche zentrifugale oder gar dekadente Tendenzen.
Der Band versammelt Forschungsergebnisse Christof Dippers zur vergleichenden Geschichte Deutschlands und Italiens in der Moderne. Die Beitrage, die die enorme Zeitspanne vom spaten 18. Jahrhundert bis in die Gegenwart abdecken, konnen als Fallstudien des Vergleichs gelesen werden. In der Zusammenschau verdeutlichen sie, wie unterschiedlich die Italiener und die Deutschen mit den Herausforderungen der Moderne umgegangen sind: mit der sozialen Frage um 1800, mit der nationalen Frage funfzig Jahre spater, mit den Prozessen der Verrechtlichung, Professionalisierung und Industrialisierung im Verlauf des 19. Jahrhunderts, mit dem Thema des 'Neuen Menschen' bei Faschisten und Nationalsozialisten oder mit Familie und Technik in den beiden Nachkriegsgesellschaften. Dipper zeigt, dass das Verhaltnis der beiden Volker von einer starken Asymmetrie gepragt ist. Ihren Weg in die Moderne kennzeichnet eine Parallelgeschichte, welche die Geschichte der beiden Lander in vielfacher Weise miteinander verbindet, aber auch deutlich voneinander unterscheidet.

Ist es gerechtfertigt, dass ein Teil der erwerbstatigen Bevoelkerung Beitrage zur Sozialversicherung zu entrichten hat und ein anderer nicht? Gewiss erhalten die Beitragspflichtigen im Gegenzug Versicherungsschutz. Doch musste dieser auch seinem Wert nach geeignet sein, die Beitragsbelastung zu rechtfertigen. Ansonsten bedarf es anderer Rechtfertigungen wie etwa Solidaritat und Verantwortung. Der Autor beleuchtet das Problem anhand der gesetzlichen Regelungen zum Arbeitslosengeld. Bei einer umfassenden Durchmusterung des Regelwerks weist er nach, dass der Versicherungsschutz im Grunde nicht zu beanstanden ist. Andererseits stellt er bei mehreren Vorschriften derartige Einschrankungen des Versicherungsschutzes fest, dass er ihre Verfassungsmassigkeit nicht mehr gegeben sieht.
