Effective Nitrogen Application Strategies for Sweet Corn in Gujarat

This book explores the response of sweet corn (Zea mays L. saccharata) to varying nitrogen levels and application timings under South Gujarat conditions. Conducted during the rabi season of 2017-18 at NM College of Agriculture, Navsari Agricultural University, the study used a Factorial Randomized Block Design (FRBD) with four nitrogen levels and four split application treatments. Results showed that increasing nitrogen levels significantly enhanced growth parameters, yield attributes, and economic returns. Among split applications, applying nitrogen in three splits with a higher proportion at the knee height stage proved most effective for maximizing growth and yield. This research underscores the importance of precise nitrogen management to optimize sweet corn production. The findings suggest that adopting region-specific nutrient application strategies enables farmers to enhance productivity while achieving higher profitability. The moral of the book is that sustainable and scientific farming practices not only improve yields and economic outcomes but also contribute to environmentally responsible agriculture.

Castor (Ricinus communis L.) belongs to family Euphorbiaceae is one of the most important and valuable non-edible in oilseed group. It can be grown under varying soil types and erratic nature of monsoon due to its drought tolerance habit. Of the nine biocides evaluated against S. litura infesting castor, Spodoptera litura Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus @ 250 LE/ha, Beauveria bassiana (0.4%) were effectively manage the incidence of S. litura on castor. These two biocides produced higher (26.77 to 28.33 q /ha) yield of castor. In the above treatments, yield increase over control ranged from 81.30 to 91.88 per cent, whereas avoidable losses were up to 7.18 per cent. The NICBR was noted 1:35.38 and 1:24.01 in effective biocides of Spodoptera litura Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus @ 250 LE/ ha and Beauveria bassiana @ 0.4 %, respectively. Among the nine synthetic insecticides tested against S. litura on castor, chlorantraniliprole 20 SC @ 0.006% and emamectin benzoate 5 WG @ 0.002% performed better to protect the castor crop. These two insecticides produced higher (31.10 to 31.83 q /ha) yield of castor. In the above treatments, yield increase over control ranged from 21.24 to 90.48 per cent.

Dieses Buch untersucht die Reaktion von Zuckermais (Zea mays L. saccharata) auf unterschiedliche Stickstoffmengen und Ausbringungszeitpunkte unter den Bedingungen von S d-Gujarat. Die Studie, die w hrend der Rabi-Saison 2017-18 am NM College of Agriculture der Navsari Agricultural University durchgef hrt wurde, verwendete ein faktorielles randomisiertes Blockdesign (FRBD) mit vier Stickstoffgehalten und vier geteilten Anwendungsbehandlungen. Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass eine Erh hung des Stickstoffgehalts die Wachstumsparameter, die Ertragsattribute und den wirtschaftlichen Ertrag signifikant verbesserte. Unter den Splitanwendungen erwies sich die Anwendung von Stickstoff in drei Splits mit einem h heren Anteil im Stadium der Knieh he als am effektivsten f r die Maximierung von Wachstum und Ertrag. Diese Untersuchung unterstreicht die Bedeutung eines pr zisen Stickstoffmanagements f r die Optimierung des Zuckermaisanbaus. Die Ergebnisse deuten darauf hin, dass die Landwirte durch die Anwendung regionalspezifischer N hrstoffausbringungsstrategien ihre Produktivit t steigern und gleichzeitig eine h here Rentabilit t erreichen k nnen.
