Einzelfallhilfe bedeutet dabei, "dass die Hilfe im dyadischen System, also im Gegenüber von Sozialpädagogen/ Sozialpädagogin bzw. Sozialarbeiter/ Sozialarbeiterin auf der einen, Klient/ Klientin auf der anderen Seite geleistet wird" (Erler 2000, S. 84). Die Wurzeln der social case work liegen in den USA. Im Allgemeinen gilt Mary Ellen Richmond als Begründerin dieser Arbeitsmethode. Basierend auf ihrer Arbeit und Erfahrung bei der Charity Organization Society in Baltimore legte sie 1917 erstmals mit ihrem Werk "Social Diagnosis" eine systematische Darstellung der Tätigkeit und Vorgehensweise von Sozialarbeitern vor. Fand ihr Buch auch in der Wissenschaft keine Anwendung, so beeinflusst es dennoch nachhaltig die Ausbildung von Sozialarbeitern und Sozialarbeiterinnen in den USA.

In her masterpiece of 2,75 x 21 metre, Ellen Harvey painted the region of Bruges as a contemporary, impressive interpretation of a Google Earth map, and in this publication she restores the ties between the city of Bruges and the harbour. In the new installation, behind a mirrored wall punctuated with peepholes, Harvey has hung a selection of paintings dating from the seventeenth to the early twentieth century, all of which belong to the reserve collection. Her work is an invitation to rediscover these rarely seen artworks. The paintings of the city, the canals, and the sea are reflected in the panorama on the opposite wall: Harvey's painted maps (2.75 x 21 meter) based on satellite images. The elaborate waterways, executed in mirrored glass, demonstrate the importance of the rivers and canals for the city. The British artist Ellen Harvey (b1967) lives and works in New York. Her work includes video art, installations and paintings. Mark's classic account of a women's locked ward, featuring additional photographs and documentation Photographed in 1976, Ward 81 was Mary Ellen Mark's (1940-2015) first independent long-term project. Mark and writer Karen Folger Jacobs (born 1940) set out to document the lives of the women in this locked ward at the Oregon State Hospital in Salem--the only one in the state. Every day for five weeks, Mark photographed and Jacobs interviewed the women on Ward 81. At night they slept in an empty adjacent ward. Ward 81: Voices, an expanded edition of the original 1979 book, includes previously unpublished photographs, excerpts from interviews with patients and recorded conversations between Mark and Jacobs, as well as new essays examining the influence of their project. Ward 81 has always been considered one of the best examples of Mark's ability to portray subjects living on the edges of society with compassion. The inclusion of the women's voices gives invaluable insight, not only into the lives of the patients, but also into Mark and Jacobs' experiences and the challenges they faced during their collaboration.
