Scholarly insights with a pastoral heart for all the books of the New Testament."Scot McKnight is one of my absolute favorite New Testament scholars and his Everyday Bible Study series is akin to Einstein creating a user-friendly version of the Theory of Relativity!"—Lisa Harper, award-winning author and Bible teacherScot McKnight explores the books of 1 Peter, 2 Peter, and Jude and shows how the most demanding challenge for early believers in Jesus Christ was how to live as a Christian in the Roman empire—how a household was to live, how to respond to suffering, how to live a holy life, and how to maintain faithfulness to the truths of the gospel. In the New Testament Everyday Bible Study Series, widely respected biblical scholar Scot McKnight combines interpretive insights with pastoral wisdom for all the books of the New Testament. Each volume provides:Original Meaning. Brief, precise expositions of the biblical text and offers a clear focus for the central message of each passage.Fresh Interpretation. Brings the passage alive with fresh images and what it means to follow King Jesus.Practical Application. Biblical connections and questions for reflection and application for each passage. The NIV is used as the primary Bible text, but McKnight also includes insights from his own translation of the entire New Testament. Each Bible study features a short, compact, clear exposition that both summarizes the whole and gives the reader a clear focus for what is central to the passage.

This series of commentaries on the New English Bible is designed for use in schools and colleges, and for the minister and the layman. Each volume comments on one book, or part, of the Bible. In each the text is given in full. Sections of text and commentary alternate, so that the reader does not have to keep two books open, or turn from one part of the book to the other, or refer to a commentary in small type at the foot of the page. Great care has been taken to see that the commentary is suitable for the student and the layman: there is no Greek or Hebrew, and no strings of biblical references. The general editors all have experience of teaching or examining in school and working with adults. Commentaries on all the books of the Old Testament, New Testament and Apocrypha have been published, together with introductory volumes and books of illustrations to accompany each Testament.

Fred B. Craddock examines the letters of First and Second Peter and Jude, asking, what kind of literature is it? who wrote the letter? to whom was the letter written? and for what purpose was the letter written? Craddock's answers let us draw from these often undervalued epistles an awareness of what is involved in living a Christian life in this world. We also see the similarities and differences in how Christ is portrayed in these epistles as opposed to the depiction found in other New Testament writings.Books in the Westminster Bible Companion series assist laity in their study of the Bible as a guide to Christian faith and practice. Each volume explains the biblical book in its original historical context and explores its significance for faithful living today. These books are ideal for individual study and for Bible study classes and groups.

The heartwarming and hilarious new novel by the author of cherished bestsellers, The Single Ladies of Jacaranda Retirement Village and The Great Escape from Woodlands Nursing Home The Marjorie Marshall Memorial Cafeteria has been serving refreshments and raising money at the hospital for over fifty years, long after anybody can remember who Marjorie Marshall actually was. Staffed by successive generations of dedicated volunteers, the beloved cafeteria is known as much for offering a kind word and sympathetic ear (and often unsolicited life advice) as for its tea and buns. Stalwart Hilary has worked her way up through the ranks to Manageress; Joy has been late every day since she started as the cafeteria's newest recruit. She doesn't take her role as 'the intern' quite as seriously as Hilary would like but there's no doubt she brings a welcome pop of personality. Seventeen-year-old Chloe, the daughter of two successful surgeons, is volunteering during the school holidays because her mother thinks it will look good on her CV. Chloe is at first bewildered by the two older women but soon realises they have a lot in common, not least that each bears a secret pain. When they discover the cafeteria is under threat of closure, this unlikely trio must band together to save it. 'Engaging. Takes readers on a sweet journey' The Australian'The Tea Ladies is a delight. A Commentary on 1 & 2 Peter and Jude: A Resource for Teachers (and Students)
The three epistles of First Peter, Second Peter and Jude deal with issues that confronted the early church; namely, persecution and deception from false teachers. Peter and Jude urged the church to pursue a life of holiness focused and directed to pleasing Jesus Christ. Such a life results in fruitfulness and usefulness in knowing God. Today, as we draw closer to Christ's return to earth, cultures are becoming increasingly lawless and are aggressively attacking Christian beliefs and mores. Persecution and suffering will become more and more an everyday part of believers' lives. As we await the second coming of Christ, the advice of Peter and Jude is exactly right for our culture, just as it was for their first readers. In the last days of this age, suffering may be required of God's people. If it comes to us, we are to endure it with God's grace. As our cultures descend into lawlessness, dark perversions and the loss of moral decency, believers are to grow in moral excellence, fruitfulness and usefulness to Jesus Christ. The return of Christ will begin a restoration of the heavens and the earth to remove any contamination of sin. It is our character and godly behavior that will preserve us in the midst of persecution and expand our effectiveness with Christ.
